The two of us, together again! There's nothing we can't do!
>>
>>88460583
This scene reminded me of GTA Vice City.
>>
>>88460583
Except save this show from being shit.
>>
>>88460583
The Amon arc was so good, where did it all go wrong?
>>
>>88460662
When they made him a water bender
>>
>>88460771

This. When they made him a fraud. They should have played it straight.
>>
>>88460844

This, but also because they made him disappear for like 5 episodes and then suddenly become relevant again for the last 2 or 3.
>>
Amon should have been the last book villain not the first

Word.

God, I really liked Amon too! Such a waste!
>>
>>88460907

Agreed.
>>
>>88460583
They can't all be Zukos.

Some genes doom you all the way down to the point that the world would have been better off without you.
>>
>>88461066
......Yeah.
>>
>>88461066
Genes my ass. Their father's influence is was corrupted the both of them. They both learned Yakon's deepest and fatal flaw, an insatiable lust for hegemonic domination.
>>
>>88460907
If Kuvira had been the book 1 villain the show wouldn't have gotten a second season.
>>
Fuck that would have made a great end if LoK didn't ever get another season.
>>
>>88460583
Korra pulling off something on Nick that's never been done before. Bravo
>>
>>88460844
No they shouldn't have, historically most revolutionary leaders have been sons born from rich families, making Amon part of the social class he was opposing was a neat historical reference
>>
>>88461560
But he was sooooo cool before that reveal!
>>
>>88461560
>historically most revolutionary leaders have been sons born from rich families

Not really.

Robespierre was a lawyer from a family of lawyers. Lenin's father had actually been a serf. Mao's father was somewhat wealthy, but he was a peasant landowner who only gained his fortune in his lifetime.
>>
They should do a main big villain in all the books
>>
>>88461521
>Korra pulling off something on Nick that's never been done before. Bravo
And they'll never do it again because korra fucked up.
>>
>>88460662
Skeletons in the closet, it was a info dump episode that came out of nowhere, Amon had good points in his favor, but making him a fraud was a pullass way to make it a boring good vs evil ending.

Do you guys remember all those threads about who was under the mask?

like the anons found out that a amon is linked to the body or something

and then we got this shitty pay off
>>
>>88462264
Did anyone other than the writers like this twist?
>>
>>88462177
There was Korra
>>
>>88461682
Washington and most of his partners in crime were all extremely wealthy, Simón Bolívar and most of his comrades as well. Several influential French revolutionary leaders were part of the upper nobility, including members of the house of Bourbon. Most of the others were very wealthy commoners, although there was a fair bit of only moderately wealthy lawyers as well. Revolutionaries have often been from the upper crust of society.
>>
>>88462304
Korra was not so much a villain as a destructive force without a will of its own, destroying or corrupting anything good that gets near it.

>any politically stable state, societal structure or metaphysical order will collapse into anarchy within weeks of exposure to Korra
And here I thought the Avatar was about balance and harmony.
>>
>>88460844
>>88460771

Edgy, but no, that was the kicker, since he was by all means a self-hating extremist with a conscience

The real downgrade is the fact that we only have the creator's commentary, only telling and no showing
>>
>>88462528
When things are tipped too far towards order and stagnation, they are out of balance.

That aside the URN's politics wasn't stable nor suitable for it anymore. Unalaq was batshit crazy regardless. The Earth Queen knew what she was doing was wrong and did it for her whole reign anyway. And Kuvira is the extreme of order with nothing allowed to escape her grasp even if it isn't what she signed up for.

>>88462272
>Did anyone other than the writers like this twist?
The people who still ship Korra/Mako.
>>
Honestly if they had placed the murder/suicide after the bullshit "I love you" + Korra getting all her shit back I think people would view this season more favorably.
>>
>>88460844
The real problem would be why would anyone care? I mean, he's using bending to remove people's powers right? Who cares if you have to use bending powers to get rid of bending powers; if anything it's poetic justice.

And just like all political movements based around socio-economic foundations (benders have more and better employment opportunities and also have easier access to political positions), there would presumably been anti-bender supporters from the bender community as well. It's not like they're killing benders; they're leveling the playing field.

I wanted Amon to be an anti-hero that Korra had to team up with to defeat Tarlok.
>>
>>88464277
>Who cares

Amon does. He didn't say I have bending and will use it to remove bending because I love you people. He said he was a divine agent from the spirits, one who was granted a gift that was not the same thing that Avatar Aang used to remove Ozai's bending because that was a form of bending and what he has is totally not bending you guys.
When your platform is that and you are being funded by a guy who is making weapons and you embrace those weapons, you have a problem.
>>
>>88460662
>Psychic bloodbending
>Making him a bender at all
>Attacking Airbenders first when the entire season was showing firebenders being the problem
>>
>>88460844

Yeah. That, I think, was the problem.

If Amon had no powers, he genuinely had a point. (Even if he was an idiot and his platform was mostly spite.) Since he's a Waterbender, he's a complete hypocrite - He can't even claim to have the courage of his convictions.
>>
I wish they'd continued the anti bender sentiment in season 2.
>>
So hypothetically, if Amon wasn't a water bender, and was a spirit power-given agent, who would you have preferred to see beneath the mask? Or is it a case of "the mask is the man"?
>>
>>88464492
Just some random dude doing what he thought was right
>>
>>88464492

Frankly we should never have seen beneath the mask. Do it very V for Vendetta-ish, kill him off without revealing who he was.

It's like, does anyone really care who Amon was? If you want to make it clear that he died, have the mask physically dissolve at the end of the episode, showing that he's gone.
>>
>>88464331
My point is that none of that matters.

A movement doesn't die out because their leader has been outed as a liar. Politicians lie all the time, and everyone knows it. Movements die out when the material/social foundation for which they base themselves upon are done away with. Amon being shown to be a liar doesn't uproot the social foundations the Equalist movement based itself upon: the great disparity in access to positions of power and employment by everyday non-benders.

When Blanqui and his conspiracy was arrested on charges of illegal gunpowder manufacturing for purposes of insurrection, with the following smear campaign, did rebellions in the name of socialism and republicanism under the red flag die out in France? Did that mean that the struggle for freedom, equality, and democracy is meaningless because radicals are willing to do what is necessary in face of adversity to achieve their ends?
>>
>>88464423
I wish that season 2 hadn't happened.
>>
>>88460662
uncertainty by the company

they didnt know they were getting a second season until after the finale aired
>>
>>88464492
Amon is fine. If it wasn't him it'd have to be a nobody, potentially one that woud've recurred in another season.

Wanting every single villain to be a big bad from the past is the wrong way to approach sequel series. It's also good that the first villain wasn't a firebender and had nothing to do with the fire nation, because that'd make LoK feel like the problems of TLA hadn't been solved.

Amon was fine.
>>
>>88462264
>muh koh
What a tool that anon was lol
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytN3JWU67j8

Man he seemed badass back then.
>>
>>88464721
He was badass to the end really. They just handled everything about the delivery of his history really REALLY poorly. Amon could have been a great character even post reveal, retardedness of Psychic Bloodbending aside.
>>
I don't know, I liked him, and his plot, kinda hokey with him being a water bender, when they should have made him an ancient being or something.

I think it went horrible wrong with season 2 and 4, 4 was just a complete heap of shit.
>>
>>88464588
>when the material/social foundation for which they base themselves upon are done away with
They never brought up what they wanted except to do away with bending. What part in the season did they say "they took our jobs" or something about wanting equal representation in government (which they technically had before this current council at least at one point) or anything?
They had nothing to stand for except to do away with bending. And if you want to undermine the setting that made this martial art cartoon then what is the point of anything?
>>
I wish Nick wasn't retarded and ordered more episodes from the start so we didn't have a culture war get localized within 13 episodes
>>
>>88461291
it should have been
the Water guy I forgot his name
Red Lotus
Kuvira
Amon
>>
>>88467402
If season 2 had come first, the show DEFINITELY wouldn't have gotten a second season. There were like, 3 good scenes in that entire arc.
>>
>>88460583
YOU CAN'T SURVIVE A BOAT EXPLOSION.
THAT'S SOMETHING THE TWO OF YOU TOGETHER CAN'T DO!
>>
>>88460908
What is the inspiration for his name anyway? Does it mean anything in latin, chinese or the old pre-elisabethan era english?
>>
>>88468952
There's a demon named Amon but I'm pretty sure it's pronounced with a long "A" sound.
I think the Korra pronunciation is how the egyptian god Amon-Ra name is said, but I don't really know anything about egyptian deities.
It's quite possible they chose it just because it sounds scary.
>>
>>88460583
The was the only good emotional scene of Korra's series.
>>
>>88468952
I remember a while back seeing an infographic that it was the name of a pressure point at the base of the neck similar to where he grabbed people to seal their bending.

But I mean, I never checked any sources or anything so it might just have been bullshit.
>>
>>88468952
Amon is derived from a Chinese acupuncture chart which refers to an area on the human body at the base of the neck. It's like poetry considering Amon grabs people by the neck to implement his bending removal technique.

A better ending then the show had. If Amon had just died in the water it would have been great.
>>
Why'd Amon even waterbend himself out of the water? What if he just torpedo'd away, out of view from everyone? He could show up again and say that the Avatar tried to forcefully put him down or something, and that his ideal wouldn't die so easily. He had no reason to expose himself like that. People would probably love him even more.

>Show no real discrimination between benders and non-benders
>Pro-Bending instead of literally anything else, really literally anything else
>Suddenly show up in fucking biplanes
>Having him be just a waterbender/no actual spiritual connection

That's just off the top of my head
>>
>>88470758
>Why'd Amon even waterbend himself out of the water?
Because he woke up drowning with water in his lungs. And if and when he returned he would have lost the funding that he was getting from Hiroshi which means no more electric gloves, biplanes, mechs, masks to put on statues, or posters.
>>
>>88470965
>masks to put on statues
What the fuck was the point of that? What were the writers thinking?
>>
>>88471297
>What the fuck was the point of that? What were the writers thinking?
The point is pretty obvious. Equalists are the new balance/harmony of the world, not the Avatar.
>>
>>88471297
>What the fuck was the point of that?
To show Amon's hubris and how he wasn't doing it for others but for his own vendetta.
>>
>>88470838
>Showing no real discrimination between benders and non-benders
Bullshit. In a world where there are training temples showing people how to create and hurl fire at a whim, a training dojo must meet in secret to teach non-gifted people techniques to *temporarily disable* the magic powers of other people. In other words, a form of martial arts that are in no way lethal.

>Attacking Airbenders first when the entire season was showing firebenders being the problem

It was either attack and finish off a small group of benders with influence in the city-state you are trying to take over, or directly start shit with one of the four great nations that nearly took over the world not too long ago.

I think he was on the right track here.
>>
>>88475536
The antagonists can get away with attacking the strongest though, see all the people that took on an Avatar that could call on the Avatar State at will.
