Anyone else enjoying Action Comics these days? After the terrible initial Doomsday arc I'm really enjoying where Jurgens is going with Superdad. Not as good as Superman but eh.

I dropped this title early on, have they revealed what was up with the unpowered Clark Kent?

I think it's like Arrival. I enjoyed reading the collected HC trade, more than the issues as they went along. I suspect there's just too much thread seeding going on (non-powered, fully human Clark is the next story-line some four or five issues down the line and there are still other unresolved issues).

If that's a missing chunk (like a slice from an apple or orange) of the planet, the planet would lose orbit and would BE dead, not near dead, due to atmospheric issues and other problems. Bad idea to draw it this way.

Sure, that's quite plausible and it would have been to have one of the locals say "the atmospheric shield is dropping - he is here" or something like that.

Otherwise, its like Star Trek just puts people on little circles, does a light show and then they are someplace else, without saying it's a transporter or ever having any dialogue ever regarding what it is.

Also a shield might compensate for atmosphere and other such problems (environmental, being closer or farther from the sun, etc.) but it wouldn't compensate for the orbital change, which at minimum would be orbital drift. It's what likely cause the loss of Mar's water in our own galaxy.

I kinda wish this arc wasn't becoming so reductive of stories we've heard before: some guy loses wife and young child, turns to a life of _____ trying to get meaning by ______, has crisis of conscious, yadda yadda. I don't necessarily expect total originality, I just wished they did at least the minimal necessary to make the tale seem as fresh as possible.

Putting Luthor on trail in this fashion could be something interesting and certainly different, but much of the meat of this issue felt like placeholder settings. I mean, why this planet and the white haired woman and not the Guardians of Oa working to prevent problem in the most just and logical way possible, why isn't it New Genesis to be the ones who need to worry about Darkseid, etc. etc.

Shit, you just reminded me New Genesis even has the source wall that gives them messages on the future. Could have easily done this story with Highfather going to the source and it saying, Lex will replace Darkseid and kill quintillions, stop that Lex.

At least for Arrival, Jurgens used a legacy character, she's no longer Thanagarian but still. He did come up with his own villain, and that's fine, at least Blanque (even though he was very one dimensional) was a unique one and not a take on Luthor or Doomsday or similar, and he didn't have a (too) weird name or model design like H'El and the other Superman villains created for Superbro.

The could have used Orion for this since he's already gone head to head with Superman and they likely aren't aware that it's a different one here, and perhaps one or two more New Genesis folks.

He should stop trying to write in a modern style and stick to what he knows. Bat-Mite wasn't badly written - he just doesn't really know how to write humor as well as other folks do, so putting on a humor book isn't the right idea. He's not the one that developed Booster Gold into what he was in JL International, for example, as far as a comedy super hero, much less the Beetle stuff.

We're not shown enough information (and unlike other things Jurgens has written in the past 3-4 years for DC, these are new characters, so we can't look at past ways they were used/written). Since he decided to use new people, new locations to the DC universe, the point was that he should have written it with at least some more thought to making it as imaginative and original as possible. Anon that you responded to was just responding to me that he could have seen New Genesis as a better way to go.

You have a point, but I doubt (based on the solicits) that this is where it's going to go. Supposedly there's an actual trial type event at that planet in the next few chapters, and nothing happens to Lex. As far as you can see, he's still going to be Super Lex, so once all is said and done, all this means NO CHANGE in the current status quo.

Also the actual Superwoman issue that is happening in goes into how there are hypercubes that are causing weird time flow, so it may seem to be happening longer than it actual did, maybe, guessing on this part.
