This movie is pretty amazing. Watched it a while ago because I had no real recollection from having seen it as a kid, and then it made me weepy. Goofy shouldn't make me sad.

I love this movie, but I can hardly watch it without feeling like I need to call my dad and just talk about days gone by.
>>
>>88388683
Then the movie has done its job. Max is supposed to be an ungrateful, selfish asshole. It's one of the reasons we relate to him when we were kids because, let's face it, that's how we were.
When we get older we see more of the picture and Goofy's nervous attempts to reconnect with his son are both endearing and heartbreaking.
People always talk about the emotions of Toy Story 3 but this is just as affecting in a more true-to-life way.
>>
>>88388936
Then you need to have a kid and tell him all about grandpa Anon.

Every fiber of my being wants to hate Goofy but I can't because the Goofy Movie exists.
>>

Why would you want to hate Goofy? He's a cool guy.
>>
>>88389755

I find it difficult to tolerate mental retardation Goofy and equally so the naive klutz with a aura of doom around him that makes everything go wrong.

Goofy Movie finally managed to make him work for me because he was just... a goofy dad. He wasn't an idiot and he tried his best.
>>
>Goofy has actually gotten laid.
>>
>>88389755
Well to be honest the guy has the potential to make an incredibly bad first impression. So I could easily see why someone would want to hate him before they got to know him all that well.

>>
>>88390243

>>
>>88389799
Technically.

Max was conceived after Goofy had caused some cataclysmic accident. He slipped and fell into a woman's vagina and owing to to his sexual experience, came instantly with a cry of "gawrsh".
>>
>>88389875

Mona was probably originally going to be Roxanne but they changed her to a new character so they could have drama. There's no reason at all for them to cast Roxanne's voice actress in that role besides Roxanne being in that film; she wasn't a Disney regular.

>>88390243

>No mention of her ever again.

Being in close proximity with Goofy is a hazard to your life. Most likly she was involved in one of his dangerous daily life situations and died because she's not made out of the same cosmic rubber as goofy.
>>
>You know, maybe Max isn't all the things you think a son should be, but, he loves me.
>Hey, my son RESPECTS me.
>Yeah...

That exchange really gets me.
>>
>>88392081
Shame they never addressed Pete and PJ's relationship more than just a couple gags.
>>
>>88388683
In all fairness to Max, he'd spent the lead up to the film busting his chops rigging up an extravagant over the top plan to get Roxanne to notice him, only for his dad to ruin his shot at a date immediately afterwards. That had to have hurt.

Although on the other hand, if Max had come clean and told his dad about Roxanne the very same day, Goofy could have postponed the whole damn trip. After all, if he was willing to crash a high security concert--after plummeting over a waterfall-- to help his kid win a girl, then under less extreme conditions he'd have understood Max's needs.
>>
>>88388770
Roxanne, because she's cute and pure
>>
>>88392768
Sometimes it takes extreme circumstances for people to really listen to one another.

Goody thought he was doing the best thing for Max and Max thought there was nothing he could do about it because the lines of communication were so tangled between them.

Some of that is Max's fault, but when he tries to tell Goofy about the party he wants to go to Goofy dismisses it as unimportant and tosses him in the car.

Neither was really listening to the other at the but the road trip restored those lines of communication.
>>
>>88393488

>>88389137
That kind of pisses me off about our culture. AFAICT humans go through their pair-bonding phase during the last stages of brain development, which for most people is 14-18. People are supposed to grow up, or at least finish growing up, with their mate. Most people will probably never be happy because so many pair-bonds are broken simply due to this cultural idea that "young love is fleeting" when the opposite is more likely true. "College is for fucking around" has probably done more harm to our species than any other meme.

Just my opinion.
>>
>>88389137
My Aunt and Uncle met in their first year of highschool and have been together ever since
>>
>>88394757
Pete cheats. It's his whole thing. So that means he's probably cheating on his taxes, fudging his hours at working, printing counterfeit coupons, etc. Hell he probably drives to Atlantic City once a month with cards up his sleeve. The Goof Troop universe doesn't seem to have Mickey Mouse in it, so there's nobody around to be a plucky IRS agent/HR guy/Casino Security guy to keep him in check.
>>
>>88395876

You can't really apply biology and nature to a warped ass society that is nothing like nature. Values have changed and young love is often wholly ignorant of the real world.
>>

>>88392768
He's a brooding teen, how well do you expect him to communicate to his father? Hell, I couldn't communicate with my dad until he died when I was 20. I wish I could, but I couldn't.
>>
>>88395876
One thing I despise is the education correlation being misconstrued:
>Don’t put on a ring on it just yet. When it comes to high school sweetheart statistics, there’s a lot of ups and down. For instance, only 19% of people who marry their high school sweethearts attend college. This is far lower than the near 70% of Americans who enrolled in college as of last October.
This was a common idea on various articles writing about the subject: they assume that being married young causes someone to not go to college, when to me it seems just as likely that the culture of college is a contributing factor to those relationships not making it to marriage in the first place.
>A lot has changed in 40 years in regards to the views of marriage and when to or when not to marry, but this simple fact remains: people don’t marry their high school sweetheart might be happier, but they are less competitive in the job market.
And then there's this shit. How is that even a choice? Even if I accept the causality here, how is being "competitive in the job market" a reasonable trade for having a great marriage? What the fuck is wrong with our culture? What have we done?
>>
>>88396233
Sure, but humans are biological, and if our brains do go through a "pair bonding phase" in the mid-late teens like anon suggests (notice the word "if"; I'm not saying I agree with him on that point) then no amount of culture will be able to change that.
>>
>>88396220
But we saw Mickey and Donald during A Goofy Movie, they were hitchhiking to California and ended up at the Powerline concert.
>>
>>88396380
Really? My dad and I have always seen I-2-I.
>>
>>88396725
Well then maybe Mickey should stop being a bum and look into Pete's finances.
>>
>>88396771
You don't think Mickey would have better things to do than a family man cheating on his taxes?
>>
>>88395876

High school kids are brainless, overly-emotional idiots. The idea of committing your life to a protracted relationship with one seems unbelievably foolish. Once I got into my twenties I realized that a very smart rule was to never date anyone below the age of 21 since before that age they're basically flighty, ignorant children and there's no way to form a meaningful relationship with someone that young not knowing if they'd be the same person next month as they are today. Gotta wait until that neuroplacticity dies down a bit and they mature into the person they're ultimately gonna become before it makes sense to commit to anything with them.
>>
