See I'm confused by this. Why is making audiences aware of polynesian culture a bad thing? How can non Polynesians advance Polynesian culture? If anything I imagine it'll boost sales in vacations and probably merch for authentic Polynesian shit. It's not like it was just the Hawaiians. The native chinese were pretty mad when Mulan came out because they did the exact same thing, make the whole 'ancestors/deities' into overblown comedic figures.

The reason the Chinese liked Kung Fu Panda a lot and not Mulan was because Kung Fu Panda created its own story and just kind of based it on chinese mythology instead of taking a chinese story and changing aspects of it for fun value.
