Concluding Moore and Burrow's Lovecraft Saga.
Book 3: Providence
Act III: October 31st to December 28th, 1919
And so, finally, we reach Providence.
The Crawling Chaos has arrived.
The Haunter of the Dark
Johnny Carcosa,
For is he not an avatar of Nyarlathotep?
And that's where the commonplace book ends.

Robert Black's journey ended with #10
This is an epilogue.
And that's it so far.
The finale won't be out until March at the earliest.
But...what a fucking ride.
>>88364881
You are a fucking hero. Thanks DD.
>>88364914
Oh, and the reason I wanted everyone to keep 3 Months in mind?
Because Brears is 3 months pregnant at the end of Neonomicon, and Robert's Journey before the time skip back to when she is presumably giving birth is 6 months.
So, really, it formed a complete 9 month pregnancy.
What was the deal with the domes?
>>88365008
Explained in Providence #5.
To protect from Fungi.
>>88364227
eldritch blow job WOO WOO!
bamp

Fucking Gentry
>>88364871
I always liked Nightgaunts.
According to the Prophecy from #6 here's how things should be playing out.
First, Yog-Sothoth Appears
Then Hastur or maybe Azathoth
Then Nyarlathotep/Johnny Carcosa
Then Shub-Niggurath
And then finally Cthulhu will be born.
So, assuming that the FBI does whatever they plan on doing before all that happens...they could save everything.
>>88364048
That's the Lovecraft we all know.
>>88370821
Well, all they need is a damn coathanger.
So basically the publication and sharing of the eldritch knowledge allowed them to come back to earth by spreading once again their name?
>>88372373
Partly.
But like Nyarlathotep says to Robert. they're formless.
Lovecraft and his Letters Circle gave them shape and real world presence.
>>88372244
Just ram a boat into the bitch.
>>88372673tfw this is basically meme magic in his purest concept
Fucking loving it
>>88372922
It also parallels growth of actual religions, most overtly Christianity with the whole apostle infighting.s
It's funny how in Providence the Church of Starry Wisdom is a dying, and waned, group of elderly ineffectuals.
It's only through the proliferations of the material by rabid fanboys who don't know shit (in the montage) that their goals are finally met and their numbers grown.
>>88372922
>tfw the meme magic is so advanced that by Neonomicon even Johnny Carcosa is calling himself Nyarlathotep, despite that being HP's invention.
>>88364058
I love how fucking bitchy Robert has gotten after learning that Lovecraft is an anti-semitic homophobe.
>>88364852
>crucified Cthulhu
I need one
>>88364227
>>88366297
Can one start w/ Providence or are the previous books essential? Thanks.
If so, are thy collected anywhere, like the Providence links?
>>88377816
>>88377816
They're not essential per se, I have a friend who didn't read them but got the gist from the montage. But the last issue is going to cap off the entire trilogy. So while they're not that good, and Neonomicon is mostly shit, it's worth it to get the full effect.
You can find either on web archive.
>>88377965
Thanks
>>88374455
Brings Samuel Loveman to mind. He was a good friend of Lovecraft and they corresponded frequently. After Lovecraft died Loveman found out from Sonia Greene (Lovecraft's ex-wife) that Lovecraft hated queers. Loveman was gay, and he felt so betrayed he burned nearly all the letters he'd kept from Lovecraft.
Worth noting that Loveman took Lovecraft in a few occassions to gatherings of poets within Loveman's circle, and it's likely that some of those nights Lovecraft was in company of gay men only. He either not noticed, or pretended not to notice, as he personally never addressed the issue with Loveman.
>>88363492
>That worm placement in second panel
>>88364129
Man, usually I find Burrows are just kind of serviceable, but in this series especially he does a good job of having characters express horrible realizations. Robert's realization about Lovecraft's true role, Hali screaming in the desert, it's all very well expressed.
>>88364559
>>88364519
>You Made Me Love You
I remember a Neil Gaiman short story that featured this song, it was pretty damn creepy too.
>>88380502
Yeah same here.
Burrows was very standard and unimpressive.
But then in Providence he really ratcheted up his game. Even the colorist, who is the same colorist from the other two series, became insanely great.
>>88380585
Made a youtube vid that synchs it up.
I think the ending montage there would make more sense to me if I was more familiar with the stories and the authors behind it. I recognize some of the names as writers who worked with Lovecraft or with the Mythos after his death, and I recognized stuff like Pickman's Project and Dunwich Horror, but the others I'm not familiar enough with.
>>88380843
This should help.
https://factsprovidence.wordpress.com/moore-lovecraft-comics-annotation-index/providence-11/
>>88380843
Yeah, some of the more tangential writers were harder to get.
>>88380981
Thanks, that clears some stuff up.
I also kind've wanted to know what was going on with Red Hook, and I thought that Robert E. Howard was detective Malone for some reason.
>>88381371
What was going on at Red Hook was explained very vaguely in the second issue.Children being imported as sacrifices
>>88381420
Right. I kind've wanted to know what happened with Malone and to Sudyam as well, the annotations helped clear that up though.
Also, the Garden that Robert goes to near the end, there, what exactly is going on with it? I mean, it's where his lover killed himself in the first issue, and it seems that Robert is going to end himself their as well. It seems like you put on some music and the attendant gases you, but what the hell is it? I feel like it's a reference to something.
>>88381507
It's outright stated in the first issue haha.
Dr. Alvarez says that it comes from Robert Chamber's "The Repairer of Reputations".
A euthanasia chamber.
And Robert ended himself. The whole montage was like that scene from From Hell.
>>88381371
They look different.
>>88383072
Well, when we first meet Howard he's doing push-ups with his face to the ground, so it was hard to tell. I thought it was meant to be Mallone on his rest after what he saw in Red Hook.
When he shows up later there's a clear difference though, you're right.
>>88363396
Sitting in bed with my pup on a snowy night, reading this shit. Just finished the last thread, here's a quick reading bump
I have a lot of questions, I'll save them for the end. Fucking domes..

The Shunned House... it's so shunned in fact that the last time I was in providence it was for sale.
>>88384701
I would figure if someone lived in it it would lose novelty
>>88363979
Who is this woman? What is her role on all this?
>>88364227
I don't know what I was expecting.
But it wasn't this.
>>88387490
I think, but I'm not positive, that she's Johnny Carcosa's "mother" from The Courtyard.
>>88384297
The Domes have actually been explained anon, back when we went to Arkham.
>>88387810
Yeah, she is.
Neonomicon implies that she's from the Dreamlands.
Probably why she's the one who can summon Johnny/Nyarlathotep and why he considers her his mother.
Alternatively, it's also implied that Johnny isn't Nyarlathotep, but the Eye that appears on the top of his head whenever he gets all stretched out.
And she could really be his biological mother.
>>88388016
Seems like it could be a bit of both.
