Continuing on with Moore and Burrows' Lovecraft Saga.
Right in the middle of Providence Act I.
>>
And here we go, with the issue where we all realized that this was actually going to be good.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
The design of the Innsmouth Look never fails to impress.

It's swarthy.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>88359271
You ever play Dark Corners of the Earth?

Now that's some good Innsmouth.
>>
It's really kinda fun to read this all back to back.

Burrows keeps a tight internal architecture.
>>
>>88359375
I'll look it up.

Because, honestly, I think Burrows has earned the last word on how the Innsmouth Look should appear.
>>
>>
>>
>>
The dream sequences are great, especially this first one.

It's clear enough that readers know what it's prophesizing, but also it's vague enough that Robert would reasonably assume it's just how the day's events have filtered to his brain.
>>
>>
Poor fish people
>>
>>
>>
>>
Oh Robert
>>
That's just perfect
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
Get ready for punnage.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>88359700
>I WILL MAKE YOU FISHES OF MEN.

That's fucking fantastic
>>
>>88359741
RIGHT?

It's like, you really kinda feel like the Esoteric Order of Dagon might be sorta fun.

My personal favorite issue, based on one of my top 3 Lovecraft stories.

Honestly one of the more convincing religious pamphlets I've read, no wonder these guys get busted by the feds though, I've never seen people so blatant about their fish-monster-y nature, they love it.
>>
>>
>>88360000
Yeah, they do.
But they don't see anything wrong with it, and I don't think the Order of St. Jude is really even a front.

I think they think they're a real sect.

Yog-Sothoth
He is the Door.
>>
>>
>>

You know, just realized that Act I is overall, more "fun" than the later issues.

It's full of small jokes and gags.
Nothing really perks back up the same way after Arkham
>>

>>
>>
>>
Robert Black is now set.
>>

what the hell is this, man?

LOEG/Watchmen...Lovecraft style.

Judging by the amount of eldritch sex that's been going on, I think Moore's making a point to take a different angle on the mythos to what (allegedly asexual) Lovecraft went for.

Act II: "August 19th" to October 20th, 1919

I think that's what he was trying to do with the stuff before Providence...but Providence itself seems to handle the sexual aspects more in line with tone.

Since, well, Lovecraft's wife infamously wrote that he was "an adequately excellent lover"
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>88359506
One thing I enjoyed about this series is how it sympathizes with the lovecraft horrors and paints them as more than just creepy monsters. I mean, they're still plenty creepy, but fish dude just wants to run his inn and go to church in peace.
>>
>>
>>88360669
Oh, yes, exactly.
I mean, in the endgame isn't really that awful from their point of view.

They just want to put the world as it should be.
To them, what we perceive is an abberation.

Even the more malicious ones we've seen so far, and upcoming, are there mainly to make the necessary marks on Robert's journey.

Plus, Johnny Carcosa is a polite dude.
>>
>>
>>
>>
Burrows actually used a sketch by Lovecraft as the inspiration for the "blight" on the farm.
>>
This page is when I figured out who Robert Black is supposed to be.
And it seemed so obvious in retrospect.
>>
>>88360571
Certainly feels better written than the stuff beforehand, although if there's one gripe I have it's definitely the diary entries. I'm certain they're going to be worth it in the end, but the handwriting and how densely they're packed on the page is pure headache bait
>>
Oh, I remember the thread for this when we finally understood what the domes were for.
Shit is obvious.

>>88360804
It's insanely better, and for good reason.
Moore actually did his homework, admitted it to. and said that he now had more respect for Lovecraft as a writer and the techniques he used to create atmosphere and tension.
Both of which were missing from Courtyard and Neonomicon.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
Back! I've never actually read the Courtyard before, so that should be interesting.
>>
>>
>>88360968
Awesome.
I'm shocked you read Recognition though.
>>
>>

>>88360793
Well who is he supposed to be?

Nope.

Ahhhhh that makes a lot of things click, clever, calling them the Stell Saps really threw me off for some reason, Moore you magnificent bastard.
>>
>>88361295
Right?
Using the latin for effectively the same fucking name was really clever.
>>
>>
>>
>>
Midway through the series, we finally get the Necronomicon
>>
And it is just fantastic

I know that tripped people up before, so I'll just say that it's the original short story version of Dr. Hill from the movie.
>>
>>
>>

Burrows' design for Armitage is possibly too cool.
Like, it's leaning into the fan view of Armitage as an old badass...but I don't mind one bit.

It's so understated.

Huh. Good for him.
>>
>>

Yup.
Plus, while apparently strict in public, he must have liked his wife enough to refuse to sign divorce papers.

Pretty damn good survival horror, limited weapons/ammo (very liberating when you actually get one "at last a weapon") and injury specific healing items. I will admit I never finished it though.

That game wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. It's not easy making a game based around Lovecraft's stories either, I imagine. I kinda want to see where they would've taken those cancelled sequels.

Lovecraft

Compare and contrast with Recognition to see how far Burrows has come, also like how similar he looks to Randolph Carter.

Robert Black has met H.P. Lovecraft.

I don't quite get the point here. Is he getting a cross-prophetic dream of both the purge of Innsmouth and the Holocaust?

Yes.
>"Did I ruin your concentration?"

Robert is a psychic. But only in his dreams.
