Is the Gwen Stacy fad finally dying at Marvel?

Aren't they pairing Spider Gwen with Miles? Her own run might get axed, but Bendis probably won't let his self insert's waifu die.

>>88345648
>>88345727

Honestly the only reason I care about Gwenpool is Batroc and the Witch being top lads.
>>
>>88345765

What are you talking about? Miles Morales is the freshest, most exciting and most promising character in all of current Marvel. Truly the Superior Spider-Man, and just maybe, the only one deserving of the name!
>>
>>88345645
>Until they make her GO black.
ftfy
>>
>>88345839
The fact that there are actually people who think like this bothers me. All the time in top ten lists I always see people shilling Miles as "The most interesting thing to happen to the Spider-Man franchise" or "Peter Parker done /better/."
>>
>>88346004

Why, I have it from a good source that he even dwarves Peter's popularity among the readers! Now I can't say I understand the Marvel corporate machine, but I believe it's pretty likely that we will put Miles as the lead of ASM sooner that you could think.
>>
>>88345633
They hooked up Spider-Gwen with Miles Morales, in hopes that Miles' popularity might give her a boost. And of course they'll be milking the interracial/"progressive" angle for all it's worth. We'll see if it works.

If it fails, they'll probably just make her a supporting character/love interest in Miles' book.
>>
Gwenpool is safe for now.

Spidergwen will be forgotten and remembered as a shitty variant of Gwenpool.
>>
>>88346004
His stories were pretty fun back in Ultimate, but I wouldn't say he's "better" or "more interesting" than 616 Peter. More interesting than 1610 Peter, sure.
>>
>>88345633
Do boob socks like that actually provide support or would they just leave her girls flailing around?
>>
>>88345633
It's too bad, I liked both of these books, it was fun that Marvel was doing books with new young heroines.

>Peter around for 60 years
>Miles around for like 5

It's almost like he needs at least somewhat of a proportionate amount of time.
>>
>>88345633
Who honestly thought that Gwen Stacy of all people would be a successful character to capitalize on? In the vast collection of well rounded characters that make up Spidey's supporting cast, Gwen is a lump of undefinable clay that's regularly molded to fit whatever narrative the writers are trying to create for the sake of convenience.

In 616 she was a generic love interest, in the Spectacular cartoon she was textbook geek, in Ultimate she's a fun-loving rock babe and in this wreck of a comic she's a bag of depression with dwindling sanity points while in other books she's pretty much just Peter with a vagina. There's no hard defining traits about her that would attract people to her character unless they fell for the "First and One True Love" meme.
>>
>>88346065
>, I have it from a good source that he even dwarves Peter's popularity among the readers!

That's bull. Books staring Peter /always/ do better than Miles' books. Even Ultimate Peter sold more than Miles ever has.

>>88346114
He was good for about the first year, then he got boring.

>>88346297
Peter had more character development and personality in his first year than Miles has ever had in all five years he's been around.
>>
>>88346297

At the very fucking least Peter had his Uncle Ben origin story. Marvel went and erased what little Ultimate Miles has and we're left with fucking nothing in the form of 616 Miles.
>>
>>88345633

>tfw Spider-Man 2099 sells even less than these two

Great sorrow.
>>
>>88346114
>Better than 1610 Peter
That's disgusting bait, he's fucking Peter but black. And the fact that Bendis kept killing his damn cast and relying on Peter's old cast was pathetic.
>>

I'll agree with that. He doesn't remember secret wars right? I found that dumb I think the people who saved the place should have been allowed to remember.

Somebody who thought the Gwen and Peter scenes in ASM2 were the best parts of the movie.
That movie is 2 and a half years old. That's way too long to try to keep a trend going.
>>
>>88346447
Idk man, 1610 Peter was pretty boring. The most interesting thing happened to him, was his death.
>>
>>88346455

It's all very confusing. Secret Wars ended with both Peter and Miles landing on 616, then they say bye to each other and just go swinf in different directions, somehow not noticing they were in the same dimension.

Then Spider-Man #1 comes out and apparently Miles has never seen Peter before, he just put the costume and stole the name and that's that.

Then in Gwenpool Gwen directly asks her about the Ultimateverse and he has no fucking idea.
>>
>>88345839
Fuck off, Bendis
>>
>>88346584

>>88346490

I know right, why couldn't it be based Ramos?
>>
>>88346455
>I'll agree with that. He doesn't remember secret wars right?
Here's the problem, Bendis has yet to give an actual answer outside of random hints dropped throughout Miles' current run which led to guys like Hasting attempting to answer for him during crossovers. But with Bendis being Bendis, he ignores what went on in those books and still entertains the idea that Miles retained all of his memories from Ultimate but somehow got over all of the existential crises he would have had by virtue of being a refugee from another world during the second or third time skip.
>>

In fact, when Miles took over Ultimate Spider-Man after Bendis killed Peter off, the book did consistently worse and worse which is why they did the renumbering and relaunch. The book was tanking, and it wasn't because Miles is black. It's because as a character he's a void. His only defining character traits are handed-down ideas from Peter Parker, which wasn't enough to woo the Ultimate Spidey readers into loving him.

In fact, I don't think any writer has yet to do an iconic Miles Morales story because Bendis still lionizes him and Bendis is TERRIBLE at writing character moments.

Reed and his family are working together to rebuild the damage done to the multiverse after the Incursion bullshit, Spider-Gwen's reality was one of the few surviving universes out there.

Really the only universe worth noting that got shafted was Ultimate and place was going downhill for the longest. Marvel grabbed what was worth grabbing (Miles and his supporting cast, Evil Reed) then let the rest burn.

>In fact, I don't think any writer has yet to do an iconic Miles Morales story because Bendis still lionizes him and Bendis is TERRIBLE at writing character moments.
And ironically, they still stole the closest thing he has to an iconic story - his first arc - for Homecoming. They literally had him do the whole standing on the ceiling in front of not-Ganke thing.
I'd honestly rather have a Miles movie than a Miles movie with Peter pasted in.

its this kind of thinking that makes shit like miles happen, when what people like about spider-man isnt just him in a fucking costume, hes been such an enduring and popular syperhero because of all of it, spidey heroing and peter trying to live his life, and the retarded reasoning of a role model for muh minority children is even more retarded, a role model should be someone you look up to, period, it shouldn't matter what color they are or what gender they are, as long as you both have common ground and equal goals to believe in it shouldn't matter because you're just trying to look up to them for the wrong reason. It's like telling me my only hero is allowed to be Django from Django Unchained or Martin Luther King because they're black.

I'm with Miles on this. I honestly don't get why so many people fetishize race/gender like that.

I understand being glad about minorities overcoming bias or societies showing lack of prejudice. But a lot of people, like this girl character, it feels like they treat these people/characters as mere pawns in some sort of chess game. They aren't cheering that a female character is interesting and can hold their own well-selling comic, they're cheering that "Thor is a lady now", queen to E2, checkmate.

Nigger maybe read a comic, the main reason Gwen wanted to fuck Peter in the first place was because she had already fucked most of the guys she knew
"he's the only boy I haven't given a tumble"
>>
>>88354911
>Implying that's the only thing wrong with Gwen.

Gwen was boring, shit, spoiled, and a slut. Besides, we all know who the best Spider-Man girl is. It's pic related.
>>
>>88354951
Not exactly (CCA really wouldn't let them talk about sex after all), but she gave off that "hot popular girl" vibe for sure.
It's possible that Gwen basically was used to having every guy in campus drool over her and Peter not only was new to campus he actually didn't pay much attention to her at all due to being wrapped up in his Spider-Man stuff.

She came off across as that REALLY popular girl who wanted this one guy she felt like she couldn't have because she knew every OTHER guy would bang her if she had the chance; she kept going back to Peter because to her his vanishing acts and his seeming ability to dismiss her off-hand while everyone else drooled over here was a lot more interesting to her then the old "yeah, yeah, I get it already you want to fuck me" rountine.
Basically Gwen kind of wanted Peter early on because she felt like she couldn't have him somehow.

Her personality changed quite a bit as different writers took over though, especially when Mary-Jane showed up and took over the "Wild party girl" vibe.

More of him brushing her off.
I've met three separate women like Gwen; pretty good looking, a decent number of male friends, most of them want to fuck her, she lacks interest because desperation turns her off.

Two are now married to guys who basically didn't pay any more attention to her then anyone else so they saw them as desireable rather then sad.

Could someone explain what's happened to Miles since Secret War?

I dropped USM when it was announced Peter was getting killed, and picked it up again and read through all of the Miles stuff when Bendis brought Peter back. I dropped the whole thing again when they announced the Ultimate universe was getting destroyed because I knew this meant that Peter was getting killed off again.

I will never read a Marvel comic again, I know most people don't give a shit but Ultimate Peter was MY Spider Man growing up, and the character that got me into comic books. I have nothing against the concept of Miles in theory, or even Ultimate Peter passing to torch to him and going off into the sunset, but killing Ultimate Peter is a slap in the face to everyone who grew up reading that character. Why the fuck should I care about Marvel if my favourite character can be murdered on a whim without any criticism just because their replacement is more diverse?

Imagine the fucking uproar if they treated Miles the same way they treated Peter.
>>
>>88360984
You know, if they did that they could make Peter take the moniker Venom, and fulfill their wet dream of having Miles be Spider-Man on a permanent no-backsies basis.
>>
>>88360990
>Could someone explain what's happened to Miles since Secret War?

The Ultimate characters that made the "jump" were literally weaved into the history of 616 and their lives were such that they were always there.

But during the event Miles had a stale hamburger up his ass that he gave to a hungry Molecule man so the guy did him a solid and retconned his mom back to life.

Since then he's teamed up with the Magic School Bus of diverse Marvel kiddies like Ms. Marvel and Gwenpool and Bombshell to fight crime and shit.

His mom hired a PI on him at one point who happened to be Jessica Jones who now knows his secret ID.

And that's pretty much all the major shit.

Oh Ganke's still cool

>Has he gotten a sembance of character development since then? All I hear is that he teams with this guy and this other guy, gets involved in this and that event, or kisses this and that girl. But is there personal growth?

We've seen a small smidgen of insight into his relationship with his mother that wasn't there before.

But your post is accurate. He's been in 616 for a year and it's nothing but crossovers and he's already swept up in another event (which I've been pointedly ignoring the shit out of so maybe he gets some development in side comics)

He didn't even make an appearance in his most recent issue.

I mean his supporting cast is great as it always was and is one of the main reasons I still read the comic.

I think (and want to believe) Bendis probably had big plans for Miles when he was in the Ultimate universe, but with its death and the constant events they most likely had to be put on the wayside or scrapped for good.
>>
>>88361463
Marvel has a wide number of problems, and the issue is that Bendis as bad as he is is a WRITING problem.
The writing is legitimately the LEAST of the problems they have; employee problems, management problems (oh my god the management problems), money problems, problems with being stuck as an IP farm and not being taken serious as a real company, a company insularity problem, etc.

Marvel has so many problems that they clearly only still exist via the patronage of Disney.

Pretty much this. All of that self-loathing, numerous depression episodes and dwindling sanity points gets thrown out the window for the default "Snarky Costumed Heroine" you see in the team books and crossovers.

Hell, In Clone Conspiracy she's able to perfectly masquerade as her 616 counterpart despite being significantly younger and barely matching the physical profile. But nobody gives a fuck for as long as they can tell their own stories without a hitch, Latour be damned.

The problem isn't that she's getting blacked. It happens in real life, you know, why can't it happen in comics.

The problem is that suddenly most popular white female character got blacked one after another, while all other types of interracial are very rare. It feels like a weird editorial push, which gets even creepier if you consider the rich history of editors/writers inserting their sexual fetishes into mainstream comics (coughclaremontcough) and the fact that coincidentally this type of interracial is the only one that's been turned into a sexual fetish by white people.

Your missing that shitty Spider-Women event where Gwen, 616 Jessica and Silk had to fight an evil Cindy Moon from Gwen's verse. Also I think Clone Conspiracy happens somewhere in the middle of the events of Web Warriors, so it would be something like:
>Spider-Gwen v1
>Spider-Verse
>Web Warriors
>Clone Conspiracy
>Spider-Gwen v2
>Spider-Women event
>The BLACKENING of Gwendolyn Stacy
At least that's what I can put together from what I read so far.
>>
>>88370578

Man Silks costume is pretty cool, but what a fucking mess verything from the neck up is.

>Red scarf that completely breaks the aesthetics for no reason.

It ain't a spider without Spidey eyes, ideally also covering the mouth unlike other spider-women.
>>
>>88370578
>Your missing that shitty Spider-Women event where Gwen, 616 Jessica and Silk had to fight an evil Cindy Moon from Gwen's verse

That would be during Spider-Gwen v2.

How does having v2 AFTER Clone Conspiracy work?
>>
>>88370677
As one anon said, it should be a crime for half-masks to be a thing on Spider-Women. It never looks as appealing as a full-face mask, Mayday and Gwen are testaments to that fact.

>>88370680
>How does having v2 AFTER Clone Conspiracy work?
Kaine gets brought back shortly after the events of Spider-Verse and was looking into the Carrion virus BS while the Web Warriors are still out and about. Gwen finds him snooping around the facility they were in and ends up getting herself involved in his plight while the others continue their multiversal shenanigans.

Literally none of this has anything to do with what is happening in Spider-Gwen v2.

Does anybody have a picture of that issue of Nova where Young Jean and Miles talk about the time they met with Sam as third wheel?

I'm trying to explain to someone why Miles is a confusing mess.
>>
>>88371018
>Literally none of this has anything to do with what is happening in Spider-Gwen v2.
I'm mainly going with the assumption that the events of Clone Conspiracy is over with by the time v2 gets running with it's main plot line (in contrast to Spider-Women which clearly happens during the run).

>>88371234
>You realize that is the currently running Spider-Gwen solo book, right?
Yes. I'm listing by possible time of debut in a rough chronological order. Spider-Women and Miles would be happening during v2's run while Clone Conspiracy and Web Warriors would have already occurred beforehand.

But that's just me trying to make sense of a situation where it's clear writers like Slott and Bendis or editorial (possibly both) don't care about continuity for as long as they can make their own stories get off the ground.

Miles and Jean met before Secret Wars when the All New X-Men went to the Ultimate Universe.

Now that Miles has been imported into 616, how exactly does that work?

Bendis has been vague with how much Miles remembers, forcing other writers to try and answer that. This page >>88371534
from Nova's book shows Jean and Miles seemingly remembering how they originally met.

Whereas when Miles met Gwenpool, he had no memory of his mom dying in the Ultimate Universe.

>I swear Ultimate Spider-man was an amazing fluke, because Bendis is a piece of shit, and so was the rest of the Ultimate universe. It makes no sense that Ultimate Spidey was so good

It's not really that strange.

Ultimate Spider-Man started out with the basic concept of "take the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko Spider-Man and re-do those stories and characters with a modern point of view". They also branched out and grabbed a little bit of later 616 Spidey stories, basically cherry picking the best stuff from over the years. It's the same kind of approach that made the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon so great, it successfully synthesized everything good about Spider-Man into a single run. Of course, Bendis did put his own spin on things in changing characters around which sometimes worked (like ultimate Aunt May or Green Goblin) and sometimes didn't work so well (ultimate Carnage/clone saga). Bendis' run on Daredevil is similar to this and also is pretty good, it mines the best DD stories of the past in order to get good starting material.

It's when Bendis has to come up with the whole framework of the series from scratch that he stumbles and fails. Stuff like Alias, Avengers, X-Men and Iron Man all has him trying to do "his own thing" and it just doesn't work because Bendis' own ideas just aren't very strong. His whole idea for Miles seems to be "Peter Parker but black" for example with no real concern about what makes Miles unique.

So yeah it's not that weird. Bendis has just strayed far far from his comfort zone.
>>
>>88371934
This reminds me that Teen Jean also wanted the Spider-BBC.
>>
>>88372005

Gwenpool is from the 'real world'. She doesn't treat any of what she's experiencing in 616 and it's bitten her in the ass more than once. If she was an author avatar she'd get away with this shit.

Miles actually threw her in jail for attempting to kill someone.
>>
>>88372056
>for attempting to kill someone.

School bomber, apparently it was a dropped storyline in Ultimate Spider-Man that got recycled since Secret Wars happened. They find the kid and she goes and shoots him.
>>
>>88372112
>>88372141

Oh and the why I believe because she's trying to prevent the "reocurring villain" crap, and since she just doesn't treat the Marvelverse lie a real place she doesn't thin anything of commiting murder.

I seriously hope at some point she realizes it's all real despite being fictional and all murders come bac at her full force.

>So she's Dreadpool Gwen, but less crazy but more of a bitch?
She's comic fangirl trapped in 616 who attempts to use her knowledge of the world and literary tropes to her advantage which backfires since it only enables her to act like a crazy sociopath who eventually either gets called out or gets her shit pushed in by other more established characters.

>why would anyone read her?
1.) Hastings
2.) Gurihiru's art
3.) Similar to what >>88372897 said, we like seeing her get BTFO and want to see if she actually develops as a character because of it versus reverting back to a reckless GTA protag again.
>>
>>88372644
Her reasoning is not wrong though, if they had killed all the villains when they were in the making Marvel universe would be a better place
>>

>>
>>88373424

I feel like Marvel should make another attempt at making a separate universe of comics like Ultimate. Only make sure writers actually adhere to continuity and don't do stupid shit, so it doesn't turn into the shithole that Ultimate was.

I like the notion of someone going from our world, to the comic book world, but because they struggle to deal with the fact it's real and not a comic book anymore, and the fact that being able to know what works from an outsider perspective and think you know everything everyone else thinks from a totally abstract perspective, would end up turning said person into a complete and utter sociopath because to them it's like Skyrim except the danger is real so they can't just go for the feels before reals option because it's not logical. Eventually they just become a super villain before their heroes reject them and they end up like some sort of Patrick Bateman/Freeman's Mind esque psychopath, unable to tell reality from fiction.

If only Marvel editorial still didn't have that massive hate-on for MJ, she would have made a better alternate universe Spider-Girl than Gwen Stacey. As long they don't go full retard and turn her into another copy of Exiles MJ.

But I would keep Peter's death and Murdock as the Kingpin's right hand man plots. Kinda have mixed feelings on Castle starting as a cop (that was also another Ultimate thing where Frank started as a cop too). Everything else, either rewrites or scrap altogether.
