Can we have a /cozy/ Batman V Superman appreciation thread? Just posting and talking about stuff in the movie we like.
If you don't like it, hey, that's okay, just go find another thread.

Ok, lets be fair here.
As a FAN of the movies, what you didnt liked about them?
Be honest, it is pretty easy to point things that you dont like or mistakes on your favorite movies, and there is no problem at all with this.

would've preferred a more traditional lex
more than anything i wish snyder would just go out and fucking talk about this stuff, try to clear the air with the perception of MoS and BvS
>>88279328
>>caesar's wife wife tells clark that words won’t stop Batman, and that only a fist will.
Well she wasn't his wife, but it's also notable that this is the reason Clark is quick to beat Batman down in their fight, which people never seem to get.
another relevant Joseph Campbell quote
>Out of perfection nothing can be made.
regarding superman. as in, we can't have him start out as the perfect entity he is in most of the comics. he needs to get there. clark needs to go through a journey to become SupermanTM
>dude repeating motiffs lmao
>>88279150
Why you keep making daily threads for this shit?
>>88279500
>DUDE I'm simply too stupid LMAO
While I didn't really like the movie overall, it's hard to argue that it doesn't look great, which I think is partly because of Larry Fong's involvement as cinematographer (he did Watchmen as well). I also think the designers did a hell of a job with costumes and most of the sets, especially that armored batsuit.
>>88279349
I could've done without Doomsday. I get that they had him for Death of Superman but I don't think he's necessary.
I wish Superman could have been given more lines. I appreciate what's being done, but I do like Superman to be open, and I hope he is allowed to be in the next movies.
The Jimmy thing was dumb.
I do love the movie though. Got it on blu-ray and everything.

>>88279564
the way snyder and terrio have described it is his hero's journey spans from Man of Steel to Justice League. so each movie contains it's own arc for him, he ultimately can only come into his own with his death and resurrection.
>>88279588
Besides the last one, these all seem purely coincedental.
Yeah, because Superman never did any of these superheroic things outside of Peace on Earth, right?
>>88279634
I really hope Justice League doesn't abandon too much of what we love about BvS in pursuit of audience and critical satisfaction.

Things I liked
Batman suit
Warehouse scene
finally seeing Dc characters together
Batman beating Superman
Lex Luthor Speech at the party (showing his lack of self control)
Also, as I see people acusing Superheroes of being fascist (example: Alejandro Iñarritu), I understand the importance of bringing it to the stories.
Things I loved and hated at the same time
Lollypop scene
>>88279658
Sure he has, but it doesn't mean they are coincidence. Even if they are, it's cool to draw comparisons.
I liked that pretty much every time Clark was on screen he was talking about doing the right thing and ideals and who matters. Felt very Superman to me.
>>88279718
>No you
>Being this retarded
Sad!
More relevant Joseph Campbell:
>Dream is personalized myth, myth is depersonalized dream; both myth and dream are symbolic in the same general way of the dynamics of the psyche. But in the dream the forms are quirked by the peculiar troubles of the dreamer, whereas in myth the problem and solutions shown are directly valid for all mankind.
The film deals so overtly with myth and dreams, and we know Snyder is a fan of Joseph Campbell.
>>88279763
I know you are but what am I?
>>88279787
>deals so overtly with myth and dreams
It really doesn't. Merely having dreams and mythological elements in your movie isn't the same as addressing them.
>>88279830
I literally meant that the film has a lot of dream sequences and people talk about mythology and in mythical terms. I wasn't making a point about the symbolism or allegory of the movie.
>>88279787
Snyder has dream sequences ALL THE TIME on his movies because he is a fan of "moments" and non linear stories, stop exagerating.
And it is extremelly hard and not indicated to rely so much on dream sequences on your movies. This is why stuff like Sucker Punch sucks.

>>88280059
maybe it's the mozart but this video always gets me a little emotional
>>88279658
One of the earliest reports about the movie is that it was going to be partly based on Peace on Earth. I don't think these are coincidental.
While I certainly think BvS has a lot of flaws and stuff, I have to give it props for at least trying. Its so clear that people involved gave a shit about this story (except for maybe the higher up WB execs).
It had some interesting themes, ideas and portrayals, which I would strongly argue weren't executed well enough. Nevertheless, there must be some appreciation for a meaningful attempt.
Thanks OP.

Ok, I watched it. I think a few of them are a stretch, but considering Snyder is super religious and majored in art history I think most of it is intentional. I really do think this movie is totally misunderstood by normal people and critics because they went in wanting/expecting to see a standard superhero movie and didn't get one.
Not BvS, but I noticed this a long time ago.

What is there to talk about? It's stupid and never should have been in the movie. If WB didn't force Snyder to inject a bunch of JL lead up and let him focus on the conflict between Batman and Superman the movie would have been amazing. I still like it though.
I just wanna say I think the blue lightning is kinda cool. People keep saying it clashes with the red suit but I don't agree. Blue and red always work well together, and it makes it more vibrant this way. Yellow lightning is great too, but I'm liking DCEU Flash.
And he's still super fucking red even in a darkly lit room so that's nice.

He had the choice of making it on post credits, but didn't wanted to be compared to Marvel.
Still, a bunch of Snyderfags here defend the "major significance" of the scene.
>>88280487
His lighting was red/yellow in BvS, so maybe it's color depends on how powerful he is at that point. He's still a novice in JL, but in BvS he was time traveling from the future.
>>88280526
>He had the choice of making it on post credits, but didn't wanted to be compared to Marvel.
Source? Nolan was the one who said no credits scenes, Snyder wanted one in BvS but he put the kaibosh on it. The JL shit was clearly mandated by WB, Snyder doesn't have that much pull.
>>88279349
Superman absolutely needed more happy scenes in BVS prior to the senate bombing, him, Lois & Martha eating dinner would have been nice and added to the ladies interaction at the end.
>>88280513
Seems appropriate, the DCEU is a shitstorm.

yeah that's a cool idea, problem is the movie is so fucking long as it is. aside from the JL cameos i don't know what could be cut to make room for some of the character moments like that we would've liked to see.

You can't make this shit up.
So can somebody please explain to me why people get so butthurt and go "NOT MUH" and "MARVEL SHILL" and "TO KINO FOR YOU" when someone expresses the opinion that BVS is a dull pretentious clusterfuck of a film and that Zack Snyder should go back to make films like Dawn of the Dead instead?

I really think most of the people saying that "Kino" stuff are shitposting and don't actually like the movie. /tv/ posters. I love the movie to death but I'm not pretending like it's overly intellectual or anything, and I don't think most fans do either.
Can you explain to me why people feel like they need to always talk about how shitty and pretentious they think the movie is when we've had these conversations a thousand times?

okay then go back to your spiderman trailer hype thread and leave us to our delusions
Do you guys recognize the weird push both MoS and BvS do for the traditional family model?
In Mos the man x woman/dad x mom stuff is pushed so hard that the implicit message of the movie is that society can't survive without this family model. Be it in the way Jor & Lara and Johnathan & Martha inform Superman's morals or in the way Superman and Lois desire to be with each other push the narrative forward.
Then in BvS you've this thing where we take a look on Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor and the way they've been raised and how their treat women pretty much inform the audience how these characters are mentally.
Superman take his strength from his parents, that took their strength from each other and thus Superman take his strength from Lois mirroring his parents life and love.
Batman tries to live up to his father image, who died trying to protect his mother and family, and his biggest guilt is about not being able to protect his parents legacy and family and also in the movie he's constantly shown trying to help female figures. Then later he sees in Superman his father's image and then there's Wonder Woman who kinda serves to complete him by the end. It's kinda like Superman and Wonder Woman became his new dad and mom, with Wonder Woman doubling as a kinda of potential mate.
Then there's Lex, who took his father's company and made his own and also bigger and better. He kinda models himself on his father, but in a predatorial way, kinda killing and devouring his father, taking what was his to himself, which is something he tries to do with Superman. Taking his people's tech and trying to discrete and kill Superman to prove himself superior. Then there's also Lex treats the women in his life. Using and discarding them with total disregard.
I don't know, just something i thought. How the whole father x mother dynamic influences a lot the characters behaviors and how they mimic the same family unit and influences.
Casting ideas for future films?
>>88280925
>>88280892
I just want good DC films. Call me when the Batfleck trailer comes.
>>88280918
I think that's all accurate, but I don't know if it means that both of the films "push" traditional family models. I think the films are psychological and mythological, and that necessitates generally a focus on parents.
I feel Ingrid Bolso Berdal (armistice on westworld) would make for a good Cheetah.
>DC safe space thread
I kind of feel bad. You're like the battered housewife of comic book movie fans.
>>88281043
We are battered by haters, we love the films, now fuck off.
>>88281002
MoS certainly push for the traditional family unit. Krypton was literally and metaphorically barren. The traditional family unit didn't exist, sex was forbidden by law ad religion, people were born due to clone bullshit. It was sterile culture and the planet reflected as such in its landscape. Jor and Lara were pretty much the last traditional family unit on Krypton.
Then you've this whole thing where John and Martha are big influences on Superman and Superman and Lois desire to be with one another and protect one another serves to always save them from the problems. Their desire to stick together is what saves them and the Earth by extension. Meanwhile the sexless kryptonians all fucking die.
Not the mention all the emphasis place on Superman's blood.
>>88279262
>Three costumed suspects were arrested last night for the murder of an infant, as well as millions of dollars in property damage
Superman 4 The Quest For Peace is a much more entertaining film.
>>88281103
Superman and Lois desire to bone one another is what saves the day. Sex is what saves the day.
The sexless kryptonians all die and Krypton's sterile culture had to die and never come back.
That's the message of the movie. Get a clue, find a wife and go make some babies. Society needs you to do this. Do you want to doom the planet?
>Things that you didn't realise watching the film, but you enjoyed learning about from a random poster online

Hopes for MOS2...
>> Some kinda Mystery Clark & Lois can both investigate as reporters, maybe Perry with them.
>> Clark is open and friendly with people he saves.
>> Clark is lighter and notably more hopeful has a good amount of scenes being happy and content.
>> Parasite if used (Id prefer not) is more like the thin creepy tas/Alex Ross version and not the growing blob he has been in recent years.
Hopes for Aquaman...
>> Manta is played by Elba, Jai White or K Williams.
>> Manta is not a Atlantian villain as has been rumored.
>> Mera is never a bitch or unlikable.
>> Once her and Arthur are together they are fiercely loving and loyal.
>> Heard is sexualized a good amount.
>> Undersea horror vibes.
>>88279533
>which I think is partly because of Larry Fong's involvement as cinematographer (he did Watchmen as well).
Larry Fong is a long time friend of Snyder that he's known since film school. He says that Fong is the only one he trusts to get his vision down right.
>>88279588
This is cool. Ross's Superman is allowed to speak in front of Congress, which is what he wants, but Snyder's isn't. On the other hand, Ross's doesn't allow the people to touch him while Snyder's does. The reversals are interesting.

Too masculine, traditional, and conservative. The values are too good and clash with the agenda. It might actually inspire people to be better, and that scares the guys on top. Virtue isn't profitable.
