Well to be fair, Star was the driving force behind Marco's growth, often overly aggressive in doing so, but with her intent in the right place. Jackie's more of an enabling force, whilst Star's more of a pushing force. They have much the same effect on the guy, in that they bring him out of his more cautious and anxious shell, yet they go about it differently. Hopefully we'll see some more of that from Jackie as the season progresses, given the role of secondary characters is to help develop the main characters and add some flavour to the story.

Marco's well adjusted for the most part, so both work well for him. Star pushes him to do things he's capable of doing, yet is too afraid to do so I would imagine a lot of people who frequent this side wishing for their own pusher, particularly one as great as Star.

Jackie, and what little we've seen of her, seems to provide a more enabling atmosphere, being understanding of his issues and letting him move past them at his own pace.

Given Marco's shown to be more than capable in a range of situations this works out as he just has to get past that initial fear, Star pushes him past it and Jackie keeps things calm so he can move past it himself. It's an interesting dynamic and I hope we get to actually see more of it, as opposed to Jackie just being sidelined again.

Both pushing and enabling can work on someone like Marco. Pushing is more direct in it's effects obviously, but it can have dramatic negative effects depending on the scenario. For instance, Marco could have come out of the whole Storm the Castle situation much worse for wear than he did, he was kidnapped and almost killed. Star's sometimes reckless forwardness means a lack of control which is a big fear point for people like Marco, if things don't go well and there's no plan to refer to then things can go south fast.

Enabling in comparison just has to focus on bringing out the positive behaviours, which is possible with Marco, given that he's shown to be capable in a range of situations when directly interacting with them. I would imagine it's more effective at dealing with his awkwardness as opposed to his fear issues, which is just as important given the spaghetti the guy spills on the regular.

Yeah, Star and Marco have a fantastic dynamic, definitely carried the show so far. Here's hoping, if nothing else, we get to see more development of the main characters, both with each other and with secondary characters. I'd be a bit sad if we see less of that Star and Marco interaction in the coming episodes, their adventures together are always the best part, doubly so if they're off-world in some magical dimension.

She is just now realizing that she has feelings for the boy who's been in front of her this whole time ("in the last place I thought you would be") Her unexpected love for her best friend is unwilling ("What could I do?") and has been only now been brought up seeing Marco in his suit at the top of the stairs ("'Til I saw you").

The next line, however, is painfully ironic. Marco is not "waiting for" Star, but Jackie instead.

The next (incomplete) verse transitions into Star's fantasy. If only Marco could notice her romantically ("And if I catch your eye") then Star would feel happy that he reciprocates her affection ("it feels like I could fly") and relieve her from the "lonely world" that she is currently in knowing that he loves someone else.

The song is incomplete, but it's appropriate in that sense because Star's inner conflict is not resolved. On the contrary, it's just beginning

Happiness must be paid for with suffering (precise exchange rate depends on the story in question;) happy endings must be earned. But Star's paying for her happy ending in advance. The more she suffers now, the sweeter the Starco will be when it comes. That's what makes her tears so delicious.
