Doug Walker thinks he's funny.

The internet used to think Doug Walker was funny.

The internet realized Doug Walker isn't funny.

Doug Walker tries harder to achieve what he thinks is funny.

Cringe.
>>
>First Dante Basco, then Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche, then Don Bluth, and now Cree Summer. Here's hopin' for Mark Hamill and Peter Cullen.
How the fuck did he even get half of these people on his show.
>>
>>88269445
Wow. That's pretty terrible.

Whoever did those drawings did a way better job than the final animation. Still edgy as fuck, but way better drawn. Anyone know who drew them?
>>88269524
He's internet famous. His rep as a cringy fuckwit doesn't mean shit to people when they can look at his views and go 'Well, people still watch him."
>>
>>88269835
Storyboards mean jack shit in terms of animation. More times than not they'll turn out better than the actual animation but that's just because they have to give a specific direction to whoever they're outsourcing the animation to. Here, it's a problem between a lack of communication between the outsourced animators and the storyboard artist as the animator ignored much of what was in the storyboard in favor for their own vision. I doubt Doug, or whoever the hell is actually running any of this, had the foresight to create character model sheets so that there wouldn't be as drastic a shift between the storyboards and the end product. Whoever the hell animated this must be pretty cheap since its clear that they're going about this in the most barebones manner possible. No perspective shots, really crappy anatomy, animaniacs knockoff exaggerated expressions, etc. Probably churned out quickly to meet Doug's quota

Not saying that the end result doesn't fucking suck, but there are more problems to it than just the storyboards being better
>>
>>88269524
>then Rob Paulsen

man he did not want to be there. at all.
>>
>>88269524
>How the fuck did he even get half of these people on his show.

Doug literally corners them in the hotel after conventions and won't leave them alone until they read his script. They do the recordings in one take in a microphone he holds up to their faces.

Seriously, watch the Paulsen and LaMarche script reading for Pinky & the Brain. He does it in their hotel room like a damn autistic stalker. They just power through it because they want Doug to fuck off as soon as possible.
>>
>>88270081
How can you be so sure? Rob is pretty levity

Anime storyboards are usually worse than the final product though.

>>
>>88269480
>Doug Walker tries harder to achieve what he thinks is funny.
Try hard is the right term. Some people seem to have never grown past thinking that constant swearing and having cartoon characters act like assholes is somehow the epitome of comedy.

Also, this idea is about as bottom-tier inventive as is possible.

Oh, Penny was actually an evil mastermind all along? Really? How long did it take you to cook that one up, Doug? Did you go through every episode and piece together all the little clues that hinted that Penny was secretly resentful and plotting world domination?

Or did your infantile sense of humor dictate that hearing a cartoon character from the 80s swearing like a coked-out porn star would just be the best thing ever?
>>
>>88271763

I honestly try to make sure to avoid any and all critics or reviewers going over shows I like. Them reviewing a series is like dissecting a frog, you learn a few things you didn't want to know, it's disgusting to watch, and it kills the frog in the end. It's also kind of like having a magic trick explained to you in that, now that every detail of it has been described to you and how you should think and feel about it, you can no longer enjoy it.
>>
>>88276006
woah! when did this become a hotdigedydemon thread?

>>
>>88276036
The funny thing is, while I like to consider myself a critic of sorts, I think this couldn't be more true. Then again, the main differences between me and them are:
>I'm far more optimistic, pessimistic critics tick me off at this point. Why not enjoy things once in awhile?
>I don't state my opinion as "fact". I give my personal thoughts and why I feel that way and let other people take it however they want.
>I don't dissect things or go into detail about things no one cares about. I say I like this or that this is good, and you can take it from there.
>I'm boring and no one would want to read what I have to say or care, which in turn means I don't have to compromise my values for the public.

Essentially, I like to think of myself as fair, pleasant, and understanding when it comes to my view on things.

I don't think being off model is inherently bad, but I do think that it has to be for a purpose, like if say, it was to accentuate the expression the character was making, or to the weight of impact of something. but if it's just bad animation then that's an issue.

Being off model is what made western cartoons so great.
Unfortunately, it seems being on model at all times is currently what's popular.
>>
>>88276748
the final look is closer to actual penny, but they tween everything instead of actually animating it.
>>
>>88276817
We can thank the 2010's cartoon renaissance for that I guess.

During that goddamn writers strike only the cookie-cutter animation studios were willing to work for what was being offered. and since those canadian and korean studios all animate basically the same, every new show has to use the same style, and every old show has to "incorporate" it. before, we had shitty writers with decent animation, and now we have great writers and basically no animation what-so-ever. just copy pasted stock animation

Sadly the the thing that saved western animation after the CN dark era is slowly killing it.

Okay, obviously that was sarcasm, but I felt the need to voice what I hate about online critics these days, and for some reason I felt comparing them to myself was the best idea. >>
>>88281049
/co/ easily gets asspained about things. By now he's talked shit about, or just said "I don't personally like" about something someone really likes, and it resulted in hivemind pissy attitudes.

Oh, and he's a bit too close to /a/ and the cosplay culture, and his Lets Play was legendarily bad or something, I dunno, I didn't see it.

He loves Stephan Universe.

Also, a lot of people hate parts of his cast for reasons. Back when Nostalgia Chick was a thing she was far more opinionated and less funny than him, pissing people off. The black guy is a furry which is the traditional enemy of 4chan, and the chick is a tad annoying. He also groups up with other people that /co/ hates like Linkara and Spoony.

Plus /co/ is full of contrarians as well as sheep. So people will shit on, vehemently defend, and mass together on any opinion regardless on if they share it or not.

Oh, he made fun of Donald Trump a few times. I mean, basically all comedians have at some point in the last thirty years, but /pol/ are fucking retards who pretend they're members of all other boards like Soviet propagandists.
>>
>>88281368
Only thing worth watching get reviewed is shit that's bad.

Cinemasins, Angry Video Game Nerd, Nostalgia Critic, only watch if its something shitty they're looking at because then its humor.
>>
>>88281368
Amazingly, Doug manages to be both these days. He'll rant and rave like a maniac about the most meaningless shit, then at the end he'll backpedal like crazy, say things aren't really that bad, and that everyone should just form their own opinion, which leaves the whole experience feeling kind of pointless.
>>
>>88281368

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.
>>
>>88281049
HE isn't entertaining, at least not to a special degree. Have you seen any of the videos where he can't acquire footage of the movie (like with anything he saw when it was new including Pixels)? They suck because he can't just rip off the good content and show it to you.

He suffers from what I call "Ray William Johnson" syndrome. HE isn't funny, but he shows you funny shit OTHER people made, so you associate him with funny shit. Demo Reel, his dream project with a ton of funding behind it from crowdfunding and all the NC-bucks he made, failed miserably because he tried to be funny by IMITATING other stuff instead of straight up SHOWING YOU other people's work. On his DA.

>The super market-This whole scene was mine. I didn't like what they did where they cut pieces of body parts and moved them in the computer ie. Maggie's head etc. It looks like it was done in flash. About the Marge turn, I had originally done a version where she did a nice head turn but, again, they didn't want it. "Just have a simple head turn because we want the joke to be Maggie and the unibrow baby," they told me. I didn't know they were going to stiffen it up that much, I'm just defending myself because that seems to be the first thing people mention is Marge. They kept my Maggie scan and popping out of the bag though and in my defense they added the fist shaking later, I didn't do those 2 drawing cycle *eck*

It is actually part of a list of scenes he worked on.

It's a cute idea, but one that has been joked about literally since the days of Inspector Gadget was still running.

Doesn't help that it overdoes the whole cursing thing, that it kills the joke about Penny being sinister and not at all the nice little girl we knew from the show.

Also, a Terminator-Gadget? Really Doug? Robot Chicken beat you to that joke like 12 fucking years ago, and did it far better. ROBOT CHICKEN.

Sad thing is, Doug was kind of enjoyable way back in the start. Yes, he still had a lot of shitty jokes then and overdrawn bits before, during, and after a review, but at least it was just him, and the review being something of a real nostalgic look at a film rather than a "I'm going to either; A. Question the film's logic for 2 minutes or B. Connect something of the film to a dead meme.

Hard to say, the Moulin Rouge review was pretty entertaining for something as long as it was, and probably one of the few guest-reviews that was really creative.

I think a lot of the problem stems from him turning the Critic into a full-blown character. In the beginning, the Critic felt more like a caricature, of both HIS nostalgic past and elements of the people watching who could relate to those times (even if they were younger or older at that time), which allowed the reviews to be amusing jabs about the pros and cons of those shows/movies we watched in our youth.

Now, it's just "The Critic shits on a bad movie (or sometimes a decent, but make it clear he doesn't like it personally) and making meme jokes and 10 minute skits with the girls and the black dude who probably could be amusing in their own right if they weren't acting out his schlock."
>>
>>88285187

That would be have been pretty good, like Penny says "My deadbeat Uncle was outdated even before his time, but I will show the world the true future!" and then show off augmentations or some shit.

But that would be expecting something more creative and original from Doug.

You know, I think you are absolutely right about that. It happens to every internet celebrity that gets a bigger budget or production crew or whatever. Pic very related.
They need to stop doing that, people like them for their personalities and honesty.
Also after watching like 300 episodes of NC, the jokes get really stale.

Speaking of that...Joh K once said "If a cartoon doesn't have tit's you are wasting time,People needs a good boner"
>>
>>88285247

I feel part of the problem was that it overdid the whole "Hey, the main characters are gay now! Super gay! Watch them have sex! SO GAY!"

It's like, nothing wrong with taking off the restrictions that kept them from doing some risqué stuff, but at the same time, that was kind of what made the original series so good was how they found ways around censors.

It'd be like if Animaniacs came back and had Yakko and Wakko rape Hello Nurse and have jokes that outright say words like "penis", it would ruin part of what made the show so charming and legendary.
>>
>>88285348

Can't say much about Jon since I never seen a lot of his stuff, but from what I can tell, he's still pretty much the same because he never tried to be more than himself, other than having goofy gags like Brentalfloss be a sinister Mr. Clean that attacks people or his pet bird shooting lasers in what I can guess is nearly every video he makes.

Doug has always been said to be something of a stick in the mud, as far back as the days of their Suburbia movie, where his brother and he were just acting like cunts to the non-Channel Awesome people working on the production.

otaku folk
People who don't want to look at people, but are based towards animating even more inbreed fiction. The ones who love the archetypes and just play around with their cliches instead of writing human beings. The ones who copy other animators without the knowledge of what inspired them in the first place. The ones who want flawless characters to waifu and to fap to. Those autists.

Still kind of need to be specific because it's one thing to lump everyone into that category, ignoring genuinely entertaining/good artists/writers with actual trash and overzealous fans. Even then, so what if some people like stuff that doesn't push the envelope? It's not like entertainment has to be always pushing things along, there's plenty to enjoy about stuff that's just harmless entertainment. Like the Dragon Ball series for example, it might have allowed for other shonen to really improve the genre, but it's otherwise just mindless fun.

Except there is, like the Michael Bay Transformers films. Just because something isn't remembered for years or considered revolutionary doesn't mean it's all garbage. Yes, there are some things that shouldn't have been made, but that's all based on subjectivity more so than anything.

Well it is. Aside from both being blonde and childish, they aren't really that much more alike. Penny looked like a little girl, while Roll has had variations, some looking very young, to teenaged, and even adult. Not to mention she's nowhere near as resourceful a female companion as Penny was.
>>
>>88285964
Penny is in a bit more realistic style while Roll is very stylized. Even when the same artist draws both their faces look pretty different.

>>

Depends on which Roll you mean. Most Rolls are just the tech support for Mega Man, while Penny revolutionized the kid sidekick in cartoons.

It's probably one of the few things Doug is never wrong about when he does little critiques on characters, his points about girls like Penny and Gosalyn are hard to argue.
>>
>>88286194
I'm talking about design. Roll is the huge eyes kawaii little girl that happens to be pretty competent too while Penny is supposed to look competent to the viewer and this is reflected in her design with a bonus of her being very cute.

at least in those shows, there was effort in turning the characters in to actual parodies of themselves.

With these youtube creators, they just seem to have a pre-canned joke that they want to paste the character over. Like TFS these days or HISE, the jokes have little to do with the source material and are now just jokes that happen to be made by the characters or are just jokes referencing old jokes they already made.
