A good writer could pull a Dexter Morgan/American History X thing with Vic. Have him get out of Arkham, skip town, and go out on a search for clarity. Kill some killers on the road, try to atone, try to make his scars count and when he inevitably realizes he will never be seen as anything other than a monster, he can content himself on the scars he's stolen from the killers he's killed.
