Question: do you guys think it's possible for an animated

Op here, I was thinking like a show that's effects heavy where it being animated would look better than bad cgi. Maybe a superhero show or something.

I genuinely think Venture Bros is the closest we've come to that concept.

it still has comedy at its core, but it sure as hell developed a neat fucking universe and continuity to the point where characters are far more than the parodies they started as.

Would be critically adored but die due to low ratings because it would most likely be on the wrong network and doesn't appeal to normies.

Morel Orel is a much better example. Venture Bros still typically keeps up comedy and action but they'll have good serious character moments mixed in there but never for a whole episode.
Morel Orel after "Nature" had strings of episodes without letting up. There's even commentary where they saw it as a no point of return so they wanted to set up the concept of Orel's limp to indicate a point before and a point after "Nature" so they could still do goofy episodes that they couldn't see fitting in a show after Orel's breaking point.

There's also the issue with Drama typically being better suited for live action because it's cheaper unless you're doing some weird shit in it that would support it being animated.

It would have to have a much darker and pseudo realistic art style.

I think if you got one or two well known names on board as VAs to advertise, and pushed it fairly hard like having it play in the same time block as other popular shows, it could work.
