From personal experience, I can tell you this does in fact make a difference.
When I was much younger, in Elementary School, I have this vivid memory of eating the pizza roll they served for lunch that day and thinking it tasted great. About halfway through, I notice out of the corner of my eye there's pepperoni in it, which I despised as a kid. I thought it should still taste good, so I kept eating it, only for it to suddenly start tasting nasty to me after finding out.
The mind is a powerful thing.
