What Spidey story should I start my girlfriend with? She's mostly into Manga, but Spidey is my favorite character of all time. I was thinking of starting her with If This Be My Destiny. I asked my LCS owner and he said to start her off with something fun and lighthearted and doesn't have a lot of history behind it. Not entirely sure what he meant by that. He recommended I start with Spider-Island. Since if I did something like the Death of Gwen Stacy, that would be a really morbid and dark introduction. Could you guys recommend me something?

Marvel Adventures. Light on continuity, heavy on fun, tailor-made to be relatively simple to follow.

Marvel Adventures is great but I don't think it's the best introduction to the character. If This Be My Destiny is actually a good spot. I also think that USM is a great modern introduction to the character. It's what I started on.

But it depends completely on what your girlfriend is like. Maybe Marvel Adventures is the perfect intro if she's got a personality to really dig it.

If she's not scared of old shit, just start at the beginning.

Avoid basically everything after Spider-Island that's written by Slott.

That could work, but a lot of the old stuff is very dated. Even when I read it, I know that it's good, but very much set in the 60s. So I might save that for later, possibly.
