I'm new to DC and chose Cass' run to read first cause I encountered a thread here where you guys discussed the character. I got intrigued. And I actually enjoyed the read.

Did she die? I remember reading about a Batgirl that died, was it?

She's not really in anything good after her first run. For what it's worth, the Detective Comics arc coming up in February is supposed to focus on her. The Batgirl that died is probably referring to Stephanie Brown, who "died" in War Games and becomes Batgirl after Cass.
