Despite living in an era of the internet, kids were less sheltered the further back in the past of the timeline you go for humanity. Also back in his early days when Butch Hartman worked at CN, he had said the network just started and no one was watching so they were able to get away with a lot more.
>>
My parents keep telling me that two stupid dogs was my favorite cartoon but I don't remember jack shit about it.

I remember everything else from cartoon network perfectly, but nothing about this. It's so fucking weird

Secret Squirrel was the best. They even had an episode where they let a female get beat up by a bunch of male bad guys.

>implying that kids today are sheltered from adult humor
Actually, CN's shows like AT and Regular Show have a lot of racy shit, even more than their 90s stuff maybe. Plus kids today watch shit like Filthy Frank and PewDiePie.

If there was a time where kids' shows seemed sheltered/santizied, it was the mid-2000s (when you had stuff like Squirrel Boy and Camp lazlo). But not the 2010s.

It was before the crybaby era.

Being edgy and appealing to older demographics was a major trend in early 90s animation.
And if anything has changed since then, it's that a market for adult-targeted animation has been established.

Looser restrictions because CN was not yet established as a "kids" network. PPG also had these looser restrictions in the earlier days, having more violence and even blood.
>>
>>87949556
>>87949611
2 Stupid Dogs originally aired on TBS back when they showed cartoons from the Hanna-Barbera library.

I'm guessing they were able to get away with as much as they did because of looser restrictions.

B-but that doesn't fit into my narrative that kids networks were a lot more relaxed and less censored in the 90s!
>>
>>87960353
>Conservative soccer moms were a fucking plague in the 90s

Don't waste your breath, you won't get through, I've been trying to explain this shit to /v/ and /tv/ for the last three years but the kids today think liberals have always been the censor-happy crybaby bunch and the conservatives have always been the champions of free speech and showing whatever the fuck you want in media.

I grew up in the 90s. Conservatives were fucking awful and wanted everything censored. But the kids on 4chan today will not believe it.

Never heard them say that, but they did use "crap" and "pissed" several times in the first season. Shame they censored it in reruns.

I remember walking in once when my then five year old brother was watching that show. The kid was blind folded, and the monkey had his bare ass shoved right up in the kid's face, no more than an inch away.

I don't recall what the context was but holy shit what possible context could there be that isn't fucked up for a kid's show?

I know Star Wars The Clone Wars said "What the hell was that?" in Season 1.

But TCW was much more impressive for what it got away with in the violence category.

I remember an episode where they kept showing gross close ups to the monkeys butt I think the plot was that he was going to a family reunion or something

They also censored "how in H are we going to fix this S"
>>
>>87960604
>But TCW was much more impressive for what it got away with in the violence category.

What was bizarre is for some reason if it was anime there was NO VIOLENCE ALLOWED. DBZ, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, fuck even Sailor Moon, were all censored to hell and back.
>>
>>87958526
>t. American Parents

I'm not saying that you should show your toddler videos of people being executed via chainsaw every day, but trying to 'defend' your offspring from bad words and nudity isn't going to help them. Curiosity is the product of ignorance and denial. Good parenting would be making your child understand why something is bad, but to do that they need to understand what it is.

The world has teeth, and it is a parents job to equip their child with what they need to avoid getting chewed up.
>>
>>87960666
Sailor Moon's censorship was fucking bizarre. Like every time anyone got struck, they would either show the before and after, but not the strike itself, or just cut the whole scene, or slammed into a wall or fell down, they would either use the same cutting method, or in some cases paint the entire background white so you didn't actually see them hitting or falling into anything.

DBZ had nudity/boob slapping jokes I can understand them editing out but they went to ridiculous lengths to edit out any and all blood, because kids don't know people bleed I guess.

The only one of those being heavily edited that makes sense is Outlaw Star. I was flabbergasted that they even chose that show to air, in the days before Adult Swim was created none the less.
>>
>>87960666
>>87960810
To this day, I'm baffled they picked something as lewd as Tenchi Muyo to air on Toonami.

Was it one of those things were they just bought the rights to a show sight unseen?

Oh yeah, you're right, webm was dark so I didn't notice the armor.

Well, are Mandalorians really human?

How does one define human?

The dictionary defines it as: A man, woman, or child of the species Homo sapien.

Homo Sapiens evolved on Earth.

They may be very similar on their planet, but they aren't Homo sapiens.

So they don't count as humans. and it's ok to kill them.
>>
>>87971615
If you're going to argue characters like Luke and Han Solo no longer qualify as human, there's really nowhere else to go with the argument.
