I couldn't agree more. The first season was comfy as fuck. I loved the mystery surrounding the gems and homeworld. As soon as they start to delve into that stuff it lost that comfy and mysterious feel and now its just trying too hard to be cool and different.

I still really like the show, but I can't help but agree. Even stuff that lorefags disliked like Garnet's Universe was great.

It really didn't help that season 3 released pretty much in a few weeks though, it meant that the episodes couldn't really sink in.

The only thing I that would make me say season 1 sucked would be Steven during the first season. The crystal gems were entertaining enough to carry most episodes then and even so now.
There would probably be more appreciation for "filler" episodes if it wasn't a 3-4 month wait between small bursts of episodes.

Honestly, Mirror and Ocean Gem are the best episodes of the show, nothing has surpassed them yet in my opinion.
