I don't care what anyone says, this was the #1 kids network

I don't care what anyone says, this was the #1 kids network back in the 90s, with iconic shows like Ed, Edd n Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, and Courage the Cowardly Dog. They were much better than a lot of the cartoons that were on Nickelodeon and Disney (with some exceptions like Rocko's Modern Life and Darkwing Duck that were just as good as them).
>>
>>87937727
honestly, they are still better than the competition
>>
>>87937770
What do they even have anymore? They're canceling the few things left that were at least half-decent.
>>
>>87937770
This
Aside from ATLAB and GF theres never really been a good reason to watch Dis or Nick.

No need for company war bulshit between channels, the LoudHousefag is already enough.

Just whatch what is good, no matter the channel.

Any pride to be held is meanless.
>>
>>87937800
I em pretty sure they will pick-up some new shows before the current stuff goes off the air (the current shows will not end before 2018)

at least they do not move all of their animation to a channel nobody watches, or cancel every show that does not bring in the same ratings as an over decade old cash-cow
>>
Nickelodeon did have a few great cartoons in the 90s (Angry Beavers, Ren and Stimpy, Arnold, Rocko). But then we had mediocre stuff like Doug, Rugrats, Real Monsters, Rocket Power, CatDog, and Wild Thornberrys.
>>
>>87937727
why do you keep reposting this?
>>
>>87937727
Here's how I always judged the networks.

>CN: usually had good cartoons

>Nickelodeon: Had great live action shows like All That and Kenan and Kel. Also had great cartoons like Hey Arnold Rocko's Modern Life.

>Disney:...I honestly don't remember what was on that network that I liked, except for the TV movies like Brink. The one show I really liked as a child was a TV show called So Weird and it was about paranormal happenings.

But honestly, they were all good and I rotated networks all the time.

The Cartoon Cartoons, especially EE&E and Courage, were more of a 2000s thing than a 90s thing. Most of them were from 1998 or later and took a season or two to really hit their stride. Nick was more of a 90s thing.
>>
>>87940065
I've heard many people say 90s pop culture "didn't really end until 2005". I've also heard some say the 90s lasted until 9/11 (more believable than them lasting until 05).

If you go by the former rule, the Cartoon Cartoons are more 90s than 00s, considering CN killed them all around 2004-2005.
>>
Nickelodeon > Cartoon Network
>>
>>87940105
They didn't kill Ed, Edd n Eddy until technically 2009 though.
>>
Why do most people say "RIP Cartoon Network 1992-2004" or thereabouts?

The CN City era began in 2004, and it's widely considered their best and most creative era. So... pray, tell, how could CN die in the year where their best era EVER began? Sure, a lot of the 90s Cartoon Cartoons got canned, but at least there were still reruns all the way up till 07. And there were awesome new shows to tide us over like Hi Hi puffy ami yumi, Code Lyoko, Juniper lee, Class of 3000, Ozzy and Drix, and Camp Lazlo.

If anything, I'd peg it as dying in 2007. After the Boston bomb scare incident in February 07, Stu "Jew" Snyder took over as president. Under his watch, CN City ended, the beloved Fridays block was replaced with the poor Fried Dynamite, the shitty version of Toonami began (the one with soccerball-faced TOM as the mascot), the seeds of CN Real were planted with the show Out of Jimmy's Head, HORRIFIC new shows like Chowder and Flapjack came in, etc.

So please stop saying "RIP Cartoon Network 1992-2004". It's really "RIP Cartoon Network 1992-2007".
>>
>>87940105
The 90s began in '87 as far as cartoons are concerned. Pokemon is generally considered to be the point where the 90s turned into the 00s in terms of kid's media.
>>
>>87940177
Adventure time simultaneously killed and saved cartoon network.
>>
>>87940298
If you ask me, kids' media turned to 00s around the time where shit like the Wii, the iPhone, and Justin Bieber became popular.

Millennials = 1982-1995/96

A lot of millennials saw "actual 90s cartoons"
>>
>>87940366
Seriously, CatDog was just about assholes. Rocket Power was just about surfer dudes. Meanwhile, Powerpuff Girls was about 3 kindergarten girls who fight awesome monsters, every character was very interesting and were likable. Ed, Edd n Eddy was about 3 kids who scammed kids out of their money to buy jawbreakers. It was hilarious and all of the characters were lovable, interesting, and hilarious.

The only 90s Nicktoons worth giving a damn are Rocko, Beavers, Ren and Stimpy, Arnold, and the first 2 seasons of SpongeBob (the third season sucked, because of Krabby Land and Party Pooper Pants, among others).

Those were a mid-00s thing. When it comes to cartoons, there are usually two things that factor into an era: series distribution trends and movies.
>'87-'89 were Ninja Turtles popularizing action comedy, Disney's high-budget syndication push, and the Little Mermaid in '89.
>'98-'01 had Pokemon, Spongebob, Shrek, and Pixar beginning to release movies regularly. The Disney Renaissance ended around this time, too. Also, some kind of terrorist attack or something.
This decade looks like the Tangled, Pixar ending their streak of acclaimed films with Toy Story 3, and Adventure Time are going to be the defining turning points.

After ToonDisney was killed I kinda stopped caring about Disney all together. Current Disney media is such a strong departure from their past stuff. Nothing wrong with changing it up, especially when you're a huge company looking to make more cash by expanding to different demographics, but DisneyXD went straight for that 'totally rad tweens' feel that literally everyone hates.

I've felt the same way, 2007 is when it went downhill after the old CEO stepped down, Snyder came along and fucked everything, AT did mark a point and time where things were starting to look better, although it was still a bit rocky. I think CN is fine right now. A little too much play on TTG and not enough faith in producing newer IP's and not enough faith in rebooting older IP (the ones that were looking for reboots), still not sure how PPG2016 got greenlit but not Galactic KND, funding maybe?

look pal, i agree that CN was the king but come on.

from my point of view CN only had more better cartoons than the rest, and really, you just said them all, there is no more good stuff there, at least in the 90s.

meanwhile Nick had Hey Arnold and Rocko as you just said, 2 of the best fucking shows ever created.
>>
>>87940931
Johnny Bravo was hilarious though. Loved most of the episodes and it had a great crossover with Scooby-Doo.
>>
>>87940014
I'm talking about ONE guy, not all the fans - and even if I had criticized TLH - it wouldn't mean that I hate Nick.
>>
>>87937727
Well, Nickelodeon wasn't just about cartoons. They had game shows, sitcoms and other special events.I'd say, based on sheer variety of different content alone, Nickelodeon was better.

There's just being retrofags, everybody knows the network died in 2007.

CN City, like CCF, got redundant though. They couldnt affrd to make new bumpers, the bumpers were very nice looking but expensive, and they kept replaying it until it got old. Should've just made more bumpers.

On the nose.
>>
>>87937727
Most of those shows are from the late 90s though, EEnE is literally from 1999.
Most of CN's early 90s programming were reruns of classic shows.
Hell the network didn't even exist in 1991.

Which is why I always feel it's a stretch to associate all those shows with the 90s, they were at the tail end of it and much less related to my childhood than many other shows.
>>
>>87938361
Yuro here, weren't shit like DuckTales, Gargoyles or Tailspin on Disney?
Those are some pretty solid shows.
>>
>>87940931
Not OP, imo Johnny Bravo was the most entertaining cartoon on that list, the only one I watched for other reasons that "maybe there's Bugs Bunny afterwards".
I have no clue why /co/ likes PPG and EEnE so much.

The fuck are you talking about? Do you seriously not remember Boomerang? That was literally the Nicktoons Network of CN.

This is outright wrong. By the time Ed, Edd, and Eddy joined the network, most of the classic Hannah Barbara stuff was already phrased out or confined to the hours when kids were in school. When Courage premiered, the only ones left were Scooby Doo, noontime Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, and the Flinstones (and occasionally the Jetsons).

They still are the best. Unfortunately everything good except SU and WBB is ending soon, and all that's left after that are the garbage reboots animated in flash. Hopefully some new IPs get greenlit before another dark age happens.
