I love the idea of Damian sucking dick at basic school subjects, because Batman grew into this whole "I know everything at an academic level" character.
>Damian reads the instructions for making instant ramen because Alfred isn't there to make him dinner

If you drop the textbox with the EXPLICIT MENTION OF HOW GENETICS DON'T FUCKING WORK ... then sure.

Saying a bat "chose to fly" or whatever is poetic imagery; saying "genes don't simply change" is not grasping basic biology (random mutation is literally the cornerstone of evolutionary change).

TL;DR: go home, Percy. You're drunk.

You know that's my biggest gripe with comics.

A bunch of dudes who know little writing men who are super geniuses. Sometimes they drop the ball hard or certain super powers and you end up just going "wut".

I remember there was a Marvel Super Villan with the power to "Speed up Evolution" so animals had humanoid forms. He failed to realize Evolution doesn't work towards a goal, nor is there a such thing as "lesser evolved" or "less evolved than" in Evolution. That's not how it works.
>>
>>87928750
Just comics? Whenever average people try to write smart characters it ends up being terrible 9 out of 10 times.
>>
>>87928767
Well I really never paid attention to much outside of comics. Im certain it;s the same with other forms of fiction.
>>
>>87928767
>>87928750
It usually ends in vague descriptions. Like a character explaining, "I use this device to speed up the molecules in liquid, there by turning it into gas". They don't tell you how they do it and don't go far into the sciences of it, which is probably for the best.
>>
>>87928750
The High Evolutionary just liked making his housepets/farm animals/whatever he could find into his waifus, is that so wrong?!
>>

>>
>>87928750
>a Marvel Super Villan with the power to "Speed up Evolution"
To be fair: while this is idiotic it's also very VERY common. I remember watching marathon of old black and white episodes of Outer Limits (or maybe Science Fiction Theater) on SciFi Channel (waaay before it was Syfy) and they had one where some dude did more or less the same thing to himself ... so he got taller and weaker and his head got bigger (because clearly we're just following a predestined course and will all be super geniuses who have powerful minds and weak bodies due to having psychic powers and not needing brawn). And, predictably, he ended up getting "devolved" into a Neanderthal (which also wouldn't work EVEN if Evolution did work like a sliding scale ... because that was another branch not a point along the way).

I remember it standing out from the other eps because while they were all 50s/60s golden age science fiction tropes ... that's just not at all how that works.

No this is Percy we're talking about here, senpai.

In Green Arrow's first arc he had Evil International Bankers called "The Ninth Circle.”

As in "Ninth Circle of Hell."

In Dante's Inferno.

Their members are called The Burned. Because Hell. And they carry
flamethrowers. Because burned.

They're created by the Evil International Bankers by taking homeless people and
LITERALLY SKINNING THEM ALIVE.

This is done on a floating base in the ocean called ... The Inferno.

Percy is about a subtle as a jackhammer enema.

Most tv shows that feature a hypercompetent cast member often resort to just having the rest of the cast act like fucking morons.

As an example: in one of the early seasons of The Mentalist I remember he swaggered onto a crime scene and explained to the cops how they could follow a trail of ants that would lead them to the body and I just couldn't keep watching it. How the bloody fuck would police detectives and CSI need some asshole to explain something THAT FUCKING BASIC?

Likewise the first episode of the McGiver reboot had an Encrypted Laptop that a Hacker and Mined with Logic Bombs ... so the hackergirl took a literal hammer to the case and handed the drive to the tech dude (understand, she didn't just break the CASE, which would have been mindless enough, she broke harddrives CASING as well ... exposing the actual platters) and his reaction was: "Oh! Right! Just bypass the encryption!"

JUST!

Also, the Marvel Universe works by very different physical laws to our own. Evolution might as well have a humanoid end goal there, since the Celestials are humanoid and had a hand in just about every sapient races' development. Plus there are all sorts of cosmic/mystic factors to consider on top of that. The last survivor of the previous universe is humanoid, the inhabitants of abstract dimensions parallel to our own are humanoid, the being representing THE TOTALITY OF EXISTENCE is fucking humanoid. As are the guys above even him. Evolution sure as shit has an end goal in the What Ifs; it's so trippy that I have the folder saved under "Thus Spake Zarathustra".
...Come to think of it OP's gripe can probably be explained away to, given enough DC Universe know-how.

>>
>>87928268
I wish I had the page, but in Johns' Amazo virus arc in JL, he had a "writer can't into 20th century history" episode.
Lex Luthor was speechifying about how diseases are the "silent killer" of mankind that have changed the course of history countless times. One of the examples he gave was that Generalissimo Francisco Franco took power in Spain by taking advantage of a power vacuum created by the Spanish royal family dying to hemophilia. How can you get something so wrong?
>>
>>87929822
>What does any of this mean?
Evolution isn't catered to us, meaning it's not working to make things like us or anything of the sort. We aren't the end all be all of evolution, we're an insignificant product of it.

People tend to think evolution aims at certain changes, when in actuality, these changes just happen due to various environmental factors as well as genetics etc etc. It's not all perfectly mapped out for every species.

With the "lesser evolved", people tend to think we come from things that are less than ourselves when the concept of "lesser evolved" doesn't exist in evolution. Everything is appropriately evolved. You're not "more evolved than" a garden snail. Shit just doesn't stop evolving and there is no hierarchy.
>>
>>87929822
Because things don't just evolve to get "better." They become more suited to their environment and able to breed. That's it. As long as you live long enough to breed, you're succeeding evolutionarily.

>>87929893
Don't feel too bad, anon. Non-breeding members of society (people without sex drive, homosexuals, individuals castrated by accident or disease, comic book readers) still play into evolutionary biology. Just as the individual worker ants in a colony don't breed but still contribute to the success of the whole, non-breeding people still work, contribute, and care for other members of society - not to mention generating ideas.

Believe it or not, it's appropriate that you posted a meme with what you posted. This is actually where the term "meme" comes from. It's a term for the things passed on from person to person, not by biology, but through knowledge and custom.

You are a part of the whole. Your memes will survive you.

Should probably have prefaced: the What If in question is "What if the Avengers lost the Evolutionary War?". i.e. High Evolutionary wins, sets off his Evolvotron 5000© and pulls off his magnum opus. Everyone got bumped a step up the ladder (flatscans -> superhumans, superhumans -> "Godlike Ones").

He's not going to be Robin forever, anon.

Only Jason and Dick are in good place and manged to find their footing. Tim and Damian on the other hand have some serious problems. Tim has yet to find his own separate identity and the writers do the same thing with Damian over and over again. Not to mention that being Batman's son will only can take him so far and once he loses the Robin mantle, he will be in even worse place than Tim.
>>
Damian has no reason to understand any of that shit though.

Damian has been pushed as hard as Tim back in the days, but he wasn't able to take off like him. So yeah, he's not really in better place than Tim and could end up in really bad situation in the future.
>>
>>87930234
>>87930350
When Dick grew up DC took the most influential character in his life (outside Batman) to build his new identity around. They did the same thing with Jason, in a way.
Tim never got that. DC tried to make you forget that Tim and Blue Beetle were close the second Dixon left the series, and Ted died and Tim became that shitty Batman Jr. character and when he really needed to gtfo they pulled one of Dick's Alex Ross costume out of storage for him.

Damian has a really obvious character direction once they want him to stop being Robin. He finds a way to reconcile both parts of his heritage and becomes Ibn Al Xu'ffach, working w/ or running the League of Assassins. That would be a fucking amazing book.
>>
>>87930415
>Ibn Al Xu'ffach, working w/ or running the League of Assassins
Make him a villain? Yeah DC will never do that, and that's if they find a way to age him to adulthood without Bruce visibly ageing.
>>
>>87930433
Not a traditional superhero, but not a villain.
The LoA has been around for millennia, it's a force of nature. A decent writer could build a story where Damian is compelled to take over the League and reform it, like Sunspot and A.I.M.
>>
>>87930468
Well, in order for a writer to do that he needs to make the LoA not a villains and ages up Bruce and the Robins which something I don't think DC will agree to do.

Tim has the best run as Robin because DC have put a lot of efforts in him to make him work. What the writers missed was developing him beyond being just a Robin which is why he suffering right now.

>Damian was created with an alternate path
He really wasn't. He was created as minor character in alternative universe and Morrison brought him in the main DCU to make him Batman's dead robin and N52 was what saved him for being permanently killed off.

DC in Rebirth wanted Damian to be the face of the new generation like Tim was, but TT not having a great debut and if Super Sons didn't do really well too is going to put Damian in really bad place.

He appears in one comic for 2 months in Rebirth and is then "killed" with no other book ever mentioning his death.
How is this forcing a character down your throat?

>Tim has the best run as Robin because DC have put a lot of efforts in him to make him work. What the writers missed was developing him beyond being just a Robin which is why he suffering right now.
The early Tim Drake stories in Batman and Tec and the Dixon run were absolutely incredible. DC has been mismanaging Tim since 2003. His problems started long before he left the Robin role.

Eh, it's not really that triggering if you think about it in metaphorical terms. It's true that animal behaviour drives them into niches that they then get adapted into, over millions of years. The choice of one rodent is meaningless but over millions of years sure why not call it choice?

It's more of a free will discussion, does the Dodo choose to forgo flight? Sure the ones who continued to fly went extinct because they were outcompeted by more efficient flightless kin... it's all metaphorical talk, and a weird thing to get triggered about when, as people have posted clear examples of, comics get evolution so, so wrong so often

What are you even talking about? Tim's death got a shout-out in Nightwing, and is clearly haunting Batman, Steph, and Beast Boy in 'Tec and Teen Titans. That's already more than Dick got when he 'died' and it's only been a month.
>>
>>87930983
I feel like you've copy-pasted a bit out of a huge post I wrote like a year ago about how DC ruined Tim Drake.
>>
>>87930708
That goes back to Lovecraft, possibly earlier.

To be fair, the Dreams in the Witch House was really good, although that was probably in spite of the pseudo-mathematical mumbo jumbo.
>>
>>87931372
>That's already more than Dick got when he 'died' and it's only been a month
Dick got a book right after the event of his "death" while Tim is currently in limbo for God knows how long.

I'm also really tired of the forced Tim mentions, but I understand why are they doing it and honestly Batman is only really affected in Tec while he pretty much OK everywhere else.
>>
>>87931372
And one mention in RHatO.
>>
Didn't the Damian retrieval arc start pretty soon after Dick died, so everyone got distracted and what >>87931479 said too.
>>
>>87931516
The forced Tim's mentions are done for continuity sake and will probably stop next year.

And beside Stephanie (and maybe beast boy), no one is really that affected by his death.
>>
>>87931479
Dick didn't get a book till six months after his "death" in Forever Evil. His death was acknowledged briefly in Batgirl, that last issue of Nightwing, and literally nowhere else. It had absolutely no ramifications for anyone other than Dick till We are Robin was launched over a year later.

Tim has been dead for a month. It's driving major storylines in two big-name books, one of which is supposedly leading to Rebirth. There's really nothing to complain about.

I'm not even going to bother to give "you".

Dick is sad that Tim is "dead", but he's not really affected by it the same way Jason isn't.
>>
>>87931617
That doesn't count, that was just the multiverse meeting to suck Dick's cock as the nicest guy in the multiverse. Everyone was there.
>>
>>87931711
God, that issue was seriously awful.

Like how desperate and lonely Dick is to think that Harley, Baz and Constantine are his friends just from having one interaction with them?

And did he even met Supergirl, Beast boy and Raven in N52?
>>
>>87931755
That's Dick's superpower, everyone wants to be his friend the instant they meet him
>>
>>87931592
Tec isn't even being driven by his death.

It's only for current arc because of Stephanie.
>>
>>87931817
They don't even think about him. It's Dick who thinks that they are his friends.

I also don't understand why he thinks that JL are his friends.

Rebirth. Dick's got history w/ the League and the Titans again. Harley, Baz and Constantine are dumb.
>>
>>87931847
They'd have met him at least, they even know Jason. Though given they've known him for about 5 years max and they no longer raised him, I'm not sure about friendship.
>>
>>87931817

So Dick is Luffy?
>>
>>87931881
Raven and BB are part of Tim's generation and I don't think he even met Kara. Also, the JL are his allies not his friends.

They know about Dick, Jason and Damian (I remember Diana not being aware about Tim), but that doesn't mean that they are their friends.

REBIRTH. If Seeley wants to say the New Teen Titans are all buddies again, are you really gonna look a gift horse in the mouth? Same with Dick and the League. This is a good thing. Fuck the New 52.
>>
>>87932118
First editors have to OK it.
>>
>>87931755
That's the problem with Bat office writers. They wants their character to be the same and have the same relationships they used to have in pre-n52 without bothering to take their time to properly to develop their characters and Tynion and Seeley are the worst offenders.

Under Wolfman, Dixon, Grayson and in the 80-00s in general Dick most certainly did give a shit
It didn't stop until Morrison came in and wrote them as brothers when the last time that happened was basically the 70s before Wolfman took control of the character
And even then Dick gives a lot of shits about what Bruce thinks of him

Alfred is the father figure
Dick is the younger brother.
Jason is the adopted son.
Damian is the biological son.

Tim used to be the cousin, but Duke has taken his place now.

The writer was talking about the species as a whole and romanticizing the notion of evolution. Did you seriously think the writer was saying a single bat just decided it wanted to fly one day. This material is clearly above your intellegence level, you must struggle with Shakespeare, he romanticizes everything. It's a concept A LOT of writers use, if you read books that werent comics you would have probably ran into it before.

Sorry for the rant but people who take shit like this literally need to be put down
>>
>>87929527

Tim was the second Robin that people actually liked. Dick was a joke as Robin at worst, and at best he was the little kid's fantasy of "gee golly, what if Batman was my papa?" Until he became Nightwing, Dick was as lame as you get.

Jason carried on that idea but not just little kids were reading comics, so people thought it was incredibly lame.

Tim was the first Robin created to be more than just a sidekick. He was the first Robin with his own solo series and it was really popular. He was the Robin who shaped the legacy of Robin.

Robin is overly serious and a genius? That's from Tim. Robin is the master hacker? That's Tim. Robin favors a bo staff and can fight metas alongside the teen titans or young justice or whatever with smarts and gadgets? Tim.

For the sake of making it easier for new readers, all of the distinct and cool parts of Tim were grafted onto Dick any time there's an adaptation outside of the comics. And since there's so much overlap between non-comics Dick and comics Tim, it seems like Tim doesn't have much identity of his own.

Not true though. Tim is the first Robin that wasn't hated.
>>
>>87935375
>Jason carried on that idea
Say what now?

And was more accepted because a lot fans guilty after the whole voting thing and writers made sure that Tim was likable.

This new Teen Titans Rebirth comic needs to be bimonthly.

I am in LOVE with those retarded goofy-looking Naruto OCs who Damian fucking outright says view the Teen Titans as everything they never had that are the new villains. They need to have proper, manga-like, drawn out fight scenes against the Teen Titans yesterday! And the creative team needs to be given time to make that shit happen!

It's seriously so dumb that it falls over into best DC comic territory.

You my niggest gripe with comics:

The fans and the companies put the writer above the story and the characters; even the wroters are guilty of this. There is zero immersion. Comics are a shitty, limiting medium and have rarely ever been done right.
