The events of numerous films are used as justification for the Sokovia accords in Civil War.

Loki being locked up because of the events of Avengers shows up in Thor 2

Now I'm not saying these are good plot points, but they are progression. All the X-Men films have is the constant retread of "Xavier and Magneto used to be freinds" with a liberal sprinkling of "Magneto was in Auschwitz, feel sorry for him"

One line about "Magneto trying to assassinate the president" does not story progression make if all they do is use it as justification to have him hidden away somewhere, only to bring him back to do the frenemies thing with Charles again.

No. Superhero comics produce the best villains (Lex, Joker, Zoom, Darkseid, Magneto, Green Goblin, Dr. Doom, Kingpin). Making the audience fear that the villain will win is part of suspension of disbelief. But Marvel wants to make most of their movies quippy and lighthearted, so there's no balls allowed at all. The bad guys can't do anything that could potentially frighten the audience or darken the tone, which is what happened with Age of Ultron and its test audience.

X-men the last stand could have been salvaged into a more palatable movie.

1. give jean some dialogue about her being anti-cure and awakening to destroy the cure

2. Make it so magneto was following Jeans orders. Like he was looking to build an army to scare the humans, but didn't want to risk mutant lives. Jean forces them to fight.

3. don't kill cyclops, put him some kind of psionic coma. He awakens at the end of the movie to help Storm run the school

4. some kind of sappy as fuck ending where prof X and Jean are at peace in some kind of astral plane/psychic out of body world watching down on everyone.

It leaves it all in the typical "happy ending" but... they made such a wishy-washy movie. Like they wanted to end it, but didn't at same time. That's the problem with fox, no clear path so each movie usually lacks a clear vision.

Marvel movies are, for the most part, shitty to acceptable pablum for the masses while still being a waste of time for anyone with taste or actual genre knowledge. It doesn't matter which studio is exploiting whichever of the Marvel IP.
