The Rock's goat at everything he does, even singing.

But does he have a tiny cowboy hat?

God's create stuff. Demigods then filch it all to give it to man.

This all sounds like God stuff, not demigod stuff.

Too bad that they don't bring up Maui's attempt to make humanity immortal...
Depending on which Pacific Mythology you look up it usually involves Maui attempting to climb into the vagina of a sleeping giant goddesslong story short, it didn't work

He's just saying he's the reason Earth isn't a clusterfuck of unpleasant chaos, not that he created it.

you're welcome is good, but where you are is better
>>
Does no one else think the soundtrack is kind of underwhelming? I like the music, and I like Lin Manuel Miranda, but the music sounds safe and not very grand.
Disney soundtracks have gotten blander over the years, but even Frozen had Let It Go and Do You Wanna Build a Snowman.
>>
>>87836009
That's kind of the tempo that tropical mucic has though. They really nailed the island theme in the music though.
>>
>>87836009
Which part of Let It Go was risky and daring?
>>
>>87833956
sounds like a great song to do some cocaine to.
>>
>>87836009
I disagree completely, this is the most original soundtrack Disney has done in years. The reason why songs like 'You're Welcome" is so good is because it's so unorthodox, yet it still works well.
>>
>>87837405
It's a quite charming song, but I don't see anything unorthodox there.
Or is Swing so dead it's avant garde again?
>>
>>87835806
I think in one of the trailers, he and Moana actually wet to this bottomless hole and he told her that's where he got the fire from? Can't remember.
>>
>>87835552
>i.e. Frozen
>>
>>87833956
First time I've heard the song, and I'm really digging it. It's reminding me of some of the songs from Road to El Dorado, which isn't a bad thing at all.
>>
>>87836497
I also said "not very grand", none of it not is big or memorable.
>>
I love the passive aggression in it. I feel like Disney songs are more of a mixed bag these days, but when they convey emotion like this they're fantastic
>>
>>87838311
Same. He's arrogant, but he really believes in it and that people are thankful for it, in an entirely naive sort of way.

While "I Know It's Today" is superior, time passing through a song isn't a unique concept. Lots of musicals have done it. In Disney alone there's Hakuna Matata.

Actually, the main villain is a lava spirit called Te Ka.

Tamatoa's just a midboss.

I'm going to see the movie purely because he's in it.
He's not even THAT great an actor, I just love him for being utterly pure-hearted.
>>
>>87844747
Well, yeah, but it's not exactly the same genre of music. And you have to admit, The Rock can actually sing, credit where it's due.

That said, regardless of what anyone says about the film, The Little Mermaid has the best overall soundtrack in the company.

I'm getting a distinctive Dr Frank-N-Furter vibe from Tamatoa.

Slightly effeminate and cultured with a strong dose of male vanity, no idea where that comparison could come from...

you mean Hercules

that movie was highly underrated and swept under the rug because "muh black princess"

catchy songs and easily the best villain in any disney 2d movie IMO
>>
>>87848895
>Best villain
He was cool as shit, but they didn't give him a whole lot to do. He didn't have that great hero/villain dynamic you get in Hercules or Beauty and the Beast.
>>
>>87848948
he's not grand or anything, but when you see he is just as desperate and vulnerable at the end when he gets dragged to hell..

thats what did it for me, seeing someone that acted so wicked in the beginning crumble so easily to something bigger than him
>>
>>87848948
yeah he could have been better but friends on the other side was probably the coolest musical number for an animated movie ive seen in a movie theater for the last decade

this is good too i guess

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, where I'm surprised by the the people that DIDN'T know Dwayne could sing. I have to remind myself that not everyone is a wrestling fan that's watched him singing little ditty's since 1999.

I love Hercules more than the next guy, but no, I mean TLM. 4 straight 10/10 songs (even if the introductory number is pretty mediocre).

>>87840363
Is this the same guy who was that fart entity on Rick and Morty?
>>
>>87834323
>not noticing the autotune
i can't really blame you, it's pretty hard to notice it when you're around so many singers using autotune all the time.
>>
>>87841580
I dont think I've ever heard a single negative thing about the Rock personally speaking. I'm even friends with people who have met and hung out with him and they say he's the coolest person in the world
>>
>>87840363
this is a very interesting approach for a villain song
>>
>>87840363
One of the tag-lines of this film should have been One Of the Villains Is A Giant Sparkly Crab Voiced By That Guy From Flight of the Conchords Who Sings a David Bowie-esque Song
>>
are you serious? he cant sing for shit. like not even remotely.
>>
What do you think about replacing More and the More Reprise with How Far I'll Go and its Reprise? I can see the merits of both songs, but I think More would have fit better thematically and it had more meaningful lyrics and moments (such as the chant from We Know The Way showing up) compared to How Far I'll Go. How Far I'll Go is more of a soaring I want song that seems tailor-made for "we want this to take off like Let It Go did."

How Far I'll Go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UpGDU9kFho
More: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGtjl5YbPdQ

How Far I'll Go Reprise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keGr19WWwoA

The More Reprise in particular is just so dang moving.
