Kinda my problem with the show. I get not wanting a black and white world of good vs. evil. I like it. But with the three Homeworld Gems either befriended or defeated, there's nothing going on. They introduce possible character conflicts and then resolve them or ignore them (whats going on with Amethyst's angst? That just ended after she became Smoky Quartz?), or in other cases they skip right over prime conflict rich environments (Lapis adopting to living with the Crystal Gems, people she despised, but now she's just auto-friends with everyone now). We're all just waiting for Jasper to reappear as a brainless corrupt gem, which doesn't sound particularly interesting, or the rubies to get picked up by Homeworld.

In the meantime, the lack of overarching conflict begs the question as to why even have a show? Right now it's like we're doing a Season 1 of "get to know the characters in daily life" loop, with Lapis and Peridot.

C'mon, give me some conflict already.

they could have easily done a lot more with the three homeworld gems and malachite, there could have been other conflicts the CGs were dealing with on Earth while they were taking care of Steven since season 1 but instead they just sit on their asses all day because there's nothing to do but bubble the occasional corrupted gem, the show is entirely from Steven's point of view which makes it hard for other characters (especially ones who aren't by Steven's side 24/7) to reach their full potential because practically everything about their character development has to heavily involve Steven by default, it wouldn't be a bad thing to stray from his POV occasionally, and by now we should know something about Homeworld and who the Diamonds are/what they want because there's currently only one and a half half seasons left and I get the feeling that whatever big finale/surprise reveal about them isn't going to be as great as we were hoping because it's going to seem short and or/rushed

I mean, take Gem Harvest for example. Seeing Peridot and Lapis, shop around with the Crystal Gems, with Steven, would've been way funnier and developing actual relations between the characters. Instead Steven stays while the interesting shit happens off screen.

Just like how Lapis and Peridot became friends off screen. I wouldn't even mind some corrupt gems as a means of initiating something, it worked well in Season 1, but now they dont even use corruption anymore.

I'll tell you something.
Pearl for example gets a ton of screentime and her story arc is imo very compelling.Pearl who had such attachment and devotion to a single person for thousands of years, we slowly see develop into letting go of that person and how it changes her to become a better individual; she gets along with Greg, she made a lot of mistakes in regards to Steven but she loves him dearly nonetheless, she embraced herself as a Pearl who is capable of showing that she's more than just a Pearl. Rose's death is the best thing that could have ever happened to her.

Peridot had an interesting redemption arc. She's funny, cute and just really loveable. Unlike Pearl and Lapis,there isn't anything about Peridot that woud make anyone outright hate her other than petty anons who hate that she's become a "meme". Peridot was the typical "racist" of the show until they slowly redeemed her. And her cool new power gives her a cool, new, interesting perspective.

On the other hand, while I'm not a big fan of Lapis. I can see why she would be so popular. She's a beautiful gem, her mannerism is both elegant and soft where at the same time she's the single most powerful gem that we've seen so far leaving aside the Diamonds. Her character arc, initially, was interesting. She wanted someone, anyone, to feel what she felt like for those thousands of years that she was trapped inside a mirror. She felt terrible about doing that to Jasper and instead of giving in to her whims and trapping Jasper once again, she gained the strength to let go of her feelings of resentment, as we also see her getting along with the Crystal Gems.

Anyway this is why I think they are the most popular gems, I wish Amethyst would be more appreciated though. Amethyst is a great character.

It's like I read my own thoughts here. I completely agree with you up to the part of feeling that Amethyst is underappreciated. I just don't feel like being stuck in the same endless circlejerk arguing with a bunch of pessimistic anons (I think staying this most recent hiatus on trash made me feel like that).

Btw one more thing on Peridot. While she obviously doesn't have an (potential) interesting background story like Pearl or Lapis have, I think she could be an important asset once we get some HW interference or visit HW. She's the most informed about modern day Homeworld as well a technician. Remember how scared the gems were end S1 thinking how out matched they would be by modern day HW? Now they could prepare themselves a bit better thanks to Peridot's knowledge

Mine is probably sworn to the sword for the singing, and the story. Although I gotta be honest I love a lot of episodes and its very hard to nail down a few. All of the flashbacks with Rose and Greg are top tier, almost all of Jasper's appearances are great. Any fusion focused episode. I really liked last one out of beach city and Bismuth recently.
