The character there wasn't connected to all the dead people, thus wasn't emotional when they died.
Its sad in Castaway when Tom Hanks loses Wilson despite the fact that Wilson is a fucking basketball. People seek out emotional connection in whatever they can find. Cheap my ass, everyone here is fairly desensitized to most of this stuff because we've read hundreds of stories over the course of years. Casuals or newer readers would find stories like those as amazing since they'd never read them.

I can see that, I'm not sure was people thought of the TV Superman that came out in Supergirl but personally I liked it. Hopefully they make a miniseries of that Superman, not a full series mind you just like 5-8 episodes every season of to catch the humanity of Superman, TV would be perfect less need for fancy effects or explosions.
