Oh sure, I know. It's a nice scene and I like the message but if I have to be cynical for a moment surely there's someone that didn't want to die and is dying while Superman helps her which was pushed over the edge by the fact that her therapist was late.
>>87817151
>Someone told me once posting The Goon was cheating.
The entire driving force behind the Goon stories is human misery. They even make it a plot point that the place they live in is like a magnet to it.

That's what braindead casuals don't get about him, they criticize him for being OP, boring, a goody goody, well fuck them. They got what they fucking wanted with New 52 Supes, how was he? Garbage. They even brought back him back and I swear I haven't loved being a DC fan more than I do now. It's those kinds of stories that make me love Superman I couldn't give any less of a shit about his amazing superpowers(except his cosmic anvil that's pretty sweet) I love his stories with Jon and Lois right now I want to watch him raise Jon, give him the talk, read how proud Clark is when he sees Jon solo Darkseid ask Batman about parenting tips, I fucking love that shit.
>>87817197

I read that Patty was supposed to be the lead of her own comic. Explains why she has much pathos.
For instance the running gag about her sleeping in class isn't a joke about her being dumb and lazy becauseshe doesn't sleep enough at night because she waits until her father comes home from work before she can get to sleep
The greatest sadness of all...
>>87818661
>>87817306
OP's pic is such a cheap moment and it would be even more cheesy in a live adaption.
>>87817306
>FFS I could watch a 3 hours movie of Superman being Superman no fights, no epic destruction just Supes going around being amazing.
wich doesn't need to be a movie in the first place, tv-tier budget would be more than sufficient for such moments and you already got many of those.
This comic might be cheating, but it fucking wrecked me the first time I ever read it.

Every fucking thread. This stupid fucking page about a girl crying about a fucking dog while real, honest to God human beings lie near hear dying horribly. It's as bad as that stupid fucking dog jumping away from a nuke in Independence Day while MILLIONS of people die but it's okay because PUPPY!
What's the opposite of "Oww the edge," because that's how I feel about people who place animal lives on this impossible pedestal, which is why there's a website for knowing if dogs die in movies, but not one for babies or mothers or spouses or anything actually worth emotionally connecting to.

Not exactly comic book but I've been thinking a lot about the scene in Dawn of Justice where Bruce says "I'm older now than my father ever was". Makes me think about what I'm doing with my life compared to what my dad was doing at this age.
>>87828200
>>87825787
Nothing is worth emotionally connecting to.
We connect emotionally to anything we can, and we relate to emotional connections regardless of what that connection is to.
The character there wasn't connected to all the dead people, thus wasn't emotional when they died.
Its sad in Castaway when Tom Hanks loses Wilson despite the fact that Wilson is a fucking basketball. People seek out emotional connection in whatever they can find. A dog dying is not less sad than a human dying which is not less sad than a basketball floating away. Its the connection itself that is saddening.

Cheap my ass, everyone here is fairly desensitized to most of this stuff because we've read hundreds of stories over the course of years. Casuals or newer readers would find stories like those as amazing since they'd never read them.
>wich doesn't need to be a movie in the first place, tv-tier budget would be more than sufficient for such moments and you already got many of those.
I can see that, I'm not sure was people thought of the TV Superman that came out in Supergirl but personally I liked it. Hopefully they make a miniseries of that Superman, not a full series mind you just like 5-8 episodes every season of to catch the humanity of Superman, TV would be perfect less need for fancy effects or explosions.
>>87817229
I missed the final issue of Planetary for years, until it was Storytimed here. Unsurprising given the stupid delays the comic had, but I wasn't sure how it would turn out given how anti-climactic the final battle was, but they fucking delivered. Planetary is full of moments like this.
>>87817955
While I appreciate the post, this single page doesn't really do the whole scene justice. Hell the entire comic is Superman being compassionate as fuck.
>>87816596

wow Clark Kent is an asshole
>>87841849
i know what you're trying to say but i think there are quite a few people here that know the context of it and haven't just seen this page only but in its entirety

Barry didn't do it on purpose
Barry didn't go around trying to having the moral high ground because his friend wasn't good enough to be a hero and got killed
Barry doesn't have an army of obnoxious fanboys defending him and his gay friend
>>87825787
>but it's okay because PUPPY
It is like that in real life too. During one of the many recent Balkan wars it was said that if the Albanians had been whales the US would have carpet bombed the Serbs atomically. And everyone in Europe knew that was so.
>>87841894

I always hated this one. What Morrison accomplished in 5 panels, this took 7 pages to get through. What Morrison did in 4 small speech bubbles, this needed page after page of WORDSWORDSWORDS.
>>87848574
I mostly agree with you, but I think it does add something that Supes spends so long on some random nobody.
I mean it's one thing to swoop by and give a few words of encouragement to a girl before moving on, and it's something else to spend all day with her. Drives in the point that every life matters (of course he could probably be saving more lives elsewhere, so he really should have just flown up a therapist and moved on to somewhere he was needed more).

This always gets me. This one moment of absolute clarity is all he needs to understand why Superman does what he does.
>>87853137
we humans are limited by our senses, we see only the tiniest fraction of the universe, lex could conquer the whole earth, and he would still rule only a mote of dust in the grand scheme of things
superman can see all of it, the true size of our world, and he sees that money, power, prestige, all of that is insignificant to the grandness of everything. lex finally gets to see things through supermans eyes and realizes his rivalry with superman, his endless pursuit of power, are all petty and meaningless, he sees just how small he is compared to world, and the worth of mankind
