The dialogue this episode feels awkward apart from the Qrow scenes (best character), and the fight scenes (the biggest selling point of the series) have all been mediocre since Monty died. Compost king is fucking stupid, WTCH doesn't feel threatening and they blew their load revealing the big bad so early, unless they plan on rushing the series out the door in like 3 more volumes.

I don't think it would be so bad if the big bad was revealed in an actual encounter with the protagonists, or if we actually got to see her do something powerful and threatening. Cinder felt more like a big bad, because the protags knew she existed. Now, we have this weird disparity where we, the viewers, know who the villain is, but a good majority of the characters in the show don't.

Imagine if Homonculus was revealed to the viewers in the first few episodes of FMA:B, but didn't actually do anything until Edward and Alfonse meet him halfway through the series. Or if we got scenes with the Spiral King (or anti-spirals for that matter) on episode 5 of TTGL, but we weren't given anything to make him feel threatening. The Spiral King didn't have a conference room, he had a fucking intimidating throne room inside a giant robot.

They had a plan and tried to set a mood for the scene - "Old guys talking about the good old times" before getting interrupted by daughter which transitions to a serious talk about her issues.

But the good times talk felt lifeless. It's like how we can understand the idea behind showing us Compost King working the farm but actually seeing it go on for some time without really being engaging, you just want to move on.

Also, the choice of words for the talk with Yang either rubbed people the wrong way or they just don't like how Yang's issues were handled.

Well, Beach Episode was always iffy, because that's a shitload of modeling to do for a single episode. In chibi it's more likely for a gag, but for the core show which almost didn't have any number of important models done in time (Uniforms, dresses, I think the Pajama models was also a close cut) it seems unlikely.

Then again, we have a lot more outfit variation right off the top in this volume, so perhaps that pipeline has improved. (With jacket yang, no jacket Yang and now robot hand yang).
