It's too bad that they dragged their feet on it so long that it HAS to be CG now, but with how far CG has come and who's directing I'm sure it's going to look great

I feel like despite the praise it gets, bone's actual plot is pretty garbage. the characters and humour are funny, but other than that it's just a very simple, basic fantasy setting with nothing original outside of the bones themselves.

The antics of the Bone cousins are definitely the draw, at least early on. It's not the most well-written dark fantasy story every written, but IMO the larger cast and world building are strong enough that by the end you're invested in more than just the Bones.

More than anything, I think people love Bone because it's impossible to put it in a box. It's too dark to be a kids' comic, but it's not tryhard/edgy enough to be a comic for adults. Bone only concerns itself with telling its story and it welcomes anyone that wants to to jump on board.

I think Bone's story still works really well. It's written well enough to where you're invested in the setting and characters, and even with aspects of the world being influenced by other fantasy works, it becomes its own thing by mixing that aesthetic well with a Carl Barks-esque adventure with 3 very cartoony guys.

I mean I grew up with Bone and the fantasy stuff never bothered me. I also found the Ghost Circles concept and the general dream aspect of the series very original. I will say I haven't read every fantasy thing ever, but even comparing Bone with the popular stuff it really doesn't seem that derivative, if at all.

Doing it Roger Rabbit style just doesn't feel right to me at all. Bone is a book that wears its animation/cartooning heritage on its sleeve and a film adaptation should reflect that.

It's not just that the Bones are analogous to Looney Tunes/the Mickey trio, but the setting of the Valley itself. You can see a strong influence of 50s-60s Disney films (particularly Sleeping Beauty), Don Bluth, and Ralph Bakshi in there. Part of why I've always wanted a Bone movie series was the potential it had for being an animated equivalent to the Lord of the Rings movies in terms of epic scope. I'd have preferred it to be 2D, but I'm willing to settle for CG.

I'm actually bigger fan of CG than most people on this board, having grown up with Pixar films, but I have to say, for this one, I'm a little worried. I don't exactly know how well the Bones themselves will translate, and I think you could overcome a number of potential problems by just making the movie in cel animation.
