Locking him up would also mean he couldnt kill himself conveniently with his brother to tie up that story so ubruptly. Then the red lotus could break him out if they wanted too and fuck korra and companies shit up.
I digress locking amon up and having him live with socities worst could reform him into being a better person and seeing the error of his ways. Or he could've just stewed in self pity becoming more evil. I would've like to see where amons story couldve gone should he have lived.

I like that Korra had to make tough choices and often suffered the consequences. Aang had a pretty clear goal for the entire series, which made sense because he was living in wartimes.

I actually enjoyed that Korra opened the portals and kept them open. It felt like the sort of world altering decision that the avatar should have to make. I'd also say that Korra usually makes the wrong decision when it counts, or at least wins despite making the wrong decision

It was able to take advantage of the flaws of the hero. Every other person on Korra's team was proven to be in the right, had the moral high ground, made the correct decision, and never had to have their ignorance exposed.

Besides it was bad writing overall that had Korra fall for things. Aside from her hearing out Zaheer since she wanted airbending back and he was now an airbender so she heard him out in the spirit world initially, and her initial challenge to Amon which could have had great character building if taken to the logical conclusion instead of what they did.

The world altering that resulted from it is never properly explored though. We only got to see it bring airbending back from the brink, which was an unforseen consequence both in and out of universe. The actual obvious, world altering change, humans being forced to live alongside spirits, isn't properly explored at all. We're just told that "Spirits and humans are living in harmony".
Basically, it was another neat idea that they totally failed to use to anything close to its full potential.

Korra had her parents, Katara, Tenzin and his visits, she knew the people of the South as she didn't want to hurt them when they were kidnapping Unalaaq, she knew Unalaaq and his kids, she knew that Bolin was trying to say that they were together when they first meet, she was able to go to events like the Glacial Spirits' Festival, she wasn't raised in complete isolation.

If anything she had Jinora's upbringing of being stuck on the equivalent of Air Temple Island. And Jinora is perfect as the show tells and shows us. Then again it could be that Jinora was just born without sin so maybe that factors into it.

Toph was raised in isolation, escaping to go learn earthbending and then eventually escaping to go fight in that competition twice.

That would paint everyone in a stupid light though. Katara knows how important it is to go out and see the world for the Avatar. And so would Zuko and Tenzin. And you can't learn about culture from not experiencing it (unless you are Jinora) so asking the person that is going to be both mediator and arbitrator for the world to never go out and see it is ridiculous.

Aang was being hunted yet he still went out to learn. Korra could have stayed in the Fire Nation at the Royal Palace (fire), with Suyin (earth/metal), and just lived on Air Temple Island (if it is SO dangerous Tenzin, then why is your family there safe and sound?)

The premise of Korra's upbringing is flawed unless there is an evil person orchestrating her upbringing to curtail her development. So instead they just made her stupid and her bending less powerful to justify needing others around to fight and talk in her place.

Her being a moron isn't the problem.

There are many dumb heroes who are endearing. Hell, some of them are sympathetic because of it.

The problem is that the writing couldn't actually admit that they made her about as smart as a sack of potatoes. Because they did it because of laziness. There are countless situations that call for Korra to be an absolute cretin in order for the plot to keep moving. But instead of just going: "Yeah, that's our hero. She's an absolute mouthbreather. But she's the only one we got." they glossed over the fact. They even had the nerve to pretend that she was clever at certain points instead.

And that makes it infuriating to watch because of inconsistency and because you'd even expect a dimwitted character would learn from their mistakes a little more than Korra tended to do.

Dumb Korra is acceptable.
