I think one of the reasons why the Cars franchise is not very good as movies is because their universe makes no sense.

How did cars build things? Like, the forklifts obviously have functioning "limbs" but how did they manage to create tools in the first place?

All the animals are also vehicles. How does that work?

The cars use big boats, trains, helicopters, and planes to get around, but those guys are also people. Is that weird? How did THAT happen?

How did an entire world of vehicles come to be? How are children made?

Do they not wonder why they have doors, windows, and mirrors? Do they have little seats and a steering wheel inside them? If so, what do they think about that?

How has the planet not died due to everyone being a vehicle?

Looks like Lightning might be getting a redesign to look more like a Dodge Daytona/Plymouth Superbird, which would fit the idea of the plot synopsis quite well. That and it's already shaping up to be better than Cars 2.
