Loot crates; the only way Marvel can outsell DC nowadays.
>>

Champions is getting like 300-400K this month due to Scholastic bullshit.
>>

justice league vs suicide squad next month. Enjoy the sales bump for now marvelfam
>>
>>87623941
Champions also was ordered by scholastic. Expect a huge drop now that they realise that it's not kid friendly. Doctor Strange got a movie+relaunch bump.

>>
>>87623958
I have quickly imagined a crossover title: CRATE LEAGUE VS SCHOLASTIC SQUAD
>>
>>87623846
>>87623849
I can only assume DC's titles are now all or nearly all direct-only once again after their disastrous foray into sale or return. Next month their share of dollar/unit will be lower again if there are any sale or return titles left - they'll all be gone by then.

It's bizarre that they even tried it without pushing a simplified newsstand line - even just quietly exempting the main Batman title from crossovers and keeping it free of continuity clutter would have worked out for them - but nobody other than LCS owners was ever going to order the bulk of their titles, so making them returnable was never going to be sustainable. Under the sales figures all publishers enjoy there's a lot of unsold and slow-selling books that are the retailers' problem. The fact that Diamond's shitty reporting is incapable of accounting for returned copies probably has nothing to do with DC's reasons for trying it out.

Can't say I've been keeping up with October's cover prices either, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Batman went back up to $4 along with other solid-selling titles. That would certainly prop up their dollar share for a month or two, but eventually - DC fans apparently being those who think $4 is too much for a comic book, regardless of the facts - the sales will slump back to around 100k/issue. Regardless, they're gonna do it if they haven't already.

Honestly? I can't help but feel DC could put out half as many titles and still get just the same unit/dollar share if they targeted the right books for cancellation. Half the production cost, same profit, and they'd almost certainly (legitimately for once) occupy the top 10 every month with actual sales.

But what do I know? Giving out pizza on company expenses at cons is clearly the way to go.

>>
>>87624217
Shh, let them shill. It's their unpaid job.
>>
>>87623886
The only thing that matters is the comparative sales here. Year-to-date shows that comics really are growing instead of dying.
>>
>>87623941
DC's boost was due to a relaunch, they don't have any big #1s this month and Marvel does.
>>
>>87624214
Nah, the cool thing to do is be a little sheep. Rebirth is beyond boring for me and just because Marvel is worse doesn't mean I'm going to sing Rebirth's praise. If I count minis, Hanna Barbers, Vertigo and Young Animal then I can find almost a dozen genuinely good DC titles, if I'm looking strictly at Rebirth I can barely name 3. and the upcoming titles don't sound too good either.
>>
>>87624181
>>87624195
Movies don't convince new people to get into comics, but movies do trick more sales out of the suckers who are already into comics.

Yeah, I don't like Marvel but I'm ok with this. Their biggest mistake this year was Civil War's interloping with all the books making a lot of them unpleasant reads. Now that it's winding down and there's interest in the likes of Riri Williams and the return of the Spider-Marriage to the mainstream, business will be picking itself back up

That NO ONE BUY THE BOOK FOR DUKE.
>>
>>87626047
Thruth to be told, I can't say that I hate Duke, because there has been occasions where I have liked him (ending of Robin War, for example), but unfortunately he is the culmination of everything I don't like about Snyder's Batman.

OCs replacing old, established characters instead of co-living with them, charactirization off, non-stop world destroying action that simulatneously takes too long and too little time to happen and character development that is told instead of shown.

And seriously, yes Robin does not necessarily need Batman as Damian (and his solo) has demonstarted, but too bad that Duke ain't one, as he desperately needs Batman to stay relevant on and off-page.

I thought DA KEWL thing to do was to storytime every Rebirth comic regardless of quality, endlessly ghost-bumping them throughout the week, shitpost in Marvel storytime threads, also cry about how oppressed you are by the SJWs.
>>
>>87626522
Fuck off Marvel shill. People keep those Rebirth comics bumped because DC keeps innovating and pushing the medium forward into new and interesting places while providing affordable but hard hitting masterpieces and genre-defining works.

Maybe your threads wouldn't get so many shitposts if they weren't all blatant SJW pandering garbage.

Name a single Marvel comic that even comes close to the brilliance of Deathstroke, Superman, New Super-man, Batman, or Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps. Not to mention Sheriff of Babylon and Flintstones which are arguably two of the greatest comics of the modern era.

Face it, Marvel's finished.

Massive DCfag here but this was expected, they couldn't use the momentum Rebirth created

>Completely ignore the Manhattan reveal and return to status quo
> Constantly push the OCs no one cares about
> Books like Batman, Flash, Blue Beetle are underwhelming
> Most books like Wonder Woman are decompressed as fuck
> Put Wally West storyline into a D-list book no one knows about and stain it with Booth art
> Make Teen Titans about Damian with the Kid Flash nobody likes
> Shitty crossover event killed the momentum of Bat-books
> Put FUCKING HITCH on JL

It was fun while it lasted but DC blew it again.
>>
>>87626955
Once they release Supersons and SHAZAM!, they'll be back on top. Just you wait. Those are the two standout Rebirth books that everyone is the most excited about, so they're just waiting for shit to lul a bit then they'll release them and blow the doors off of the sales charts and cement themselves as #1 for all time.

Orlando and Williamson are still significantly better than all the garbage writers at Marvel, so I don't see what the problem is. Just because they're not on the level of Morrison or Johns, doesn't mean their books aren't still extremely good and well worth buying.

The beauty of Rebirth is that it can bring the best out of even the most mediocre writers. Just look at Lobdell and Humphries. Their Rebirth comics are fucking amazing! Green Lanterns and Red Hood are two of the most entertaining books I've ever read.
>>

Orlando is fine despite his stilted dialogue. Williamson, Humpries, Abnett, Seeley, Lobdell, Tomasi or Percy are worse.

Most comic writers are sjw these days, if i stopped liking a guy's writing depending on their politicial views, i wouldn't have been able to enjoy anything.

This is a terrible way to defend Williamson, who is also a SJW by the way. He's still forcing me to read about black Wally.
>>
>>87627395
I'm not defending Williamson, he's worse and relies on his "le epic twist gimmick", Frostbite #1 was painful to read despite the fact that I love the artist.

But Seeley is still bad and inserting your sjw agenda into your work is always a bad idea. Him coming out and saying that tumblr is right and he shouldn't be writing a black teenage girl was cringe as fuck.

Marvel was smart enough to sell their comic to scholastics which is a realm DC cant touch without pissing off its fans

1st: DC Relaunches with a bunch #1s

4th: Most /co/ users tell DC fans they're being fucking retarded because they only have a sales boost because of a relaunch
5th: Relaunch ends, DC Sales slump as predicted
6th: /co/ gets to enjoy saying "told you so" to retarded companywars faggots.

Did you get all that? I wouldn't want to leave any child behind, after all.

>>
>>87627651

This is where you fail, most of /co/ is actually behind Rebirth and most are also shitting on Marvel for making bad comic after bad comic.

Champions.
Civil War 2, all of it and that's like 30 books.
Turning Kamala into PCmala.
Pushing Carol and failling every time.
Pushing the Inhumans and failling every time.
Shitting on the X-men.
Shittion the Fantastic Four.
Almost 5 bucks for literally who comics like Solo, Mosaic, Ocupy Avengers.
Replacing classic characters with PC versions of them.
Gwenpool.

I love Marvel and I hate that I hate Marvel.

There's plenty of marvelfags that instead of criticizing marvel because of their low quality output they just eat up anything marvel shits their way, however, it's true that every time you try to criticize Rebirth you get "fuck off marvel shill" tier replies. It's not like Marvel set out to make the book Scholastic-friendly. They made the book, advertised the fuck out of it, then Scholastic decided to order a bunch thanks to Marvel hyping it up as "the next big thing! teen heroes for the NOW 2.0 generation! Please dear god buy this book!"

Either way, Marvel got the sales with all the costs being off-loaded onto Scholastic and its unlikely that Scholastic would have bought any non-#1 issues anyways since that wouldn't work with their business model. Scholastic Book Fairs happen like twice a year, so doing a monthly continuation isn't something they're interested in.

It was a golden opportunity for Marvel though and Waid botched the damn thing. Either way, this is probably going to have extremely good first issue sales (thanks to scholastic, variant covers, and #1 boost) then a massive drop in issue 2 and another massive drop in issue 3 until steadying at a respectable but middling 35~40k.

What in the fuck are you still talking about? When DC announced it was offering returnability it was to the direct market. You're that idiot who keeps thinking "DC IS OFFERING RETURNABILITY THEREFORE THEY'RE FOCUSING ON THE NEWSSTAND" which is bullshit. DC is still doing newsstand sales but they work differently than direct (all newsstand titles are $3.99 regardless of the comic)

They even outright said around the time the whole thing started that returnability would be for the first six issues of the $2.99 titles and first three issues of the $3.99 titles. You keep conveniently ignoring all of these to push made-up bullshit from your head.

>The fact that Diamond's shitty reporting is incapable of accounting for returned copies

I think what they're saying is that "Champions" #1 was the highest selling book of the highest price tier. Which is to say, it's the one that brought in the most money for Marvel, and by extension Diamond.
>>
>>87631375
don't worry. it won't. I didn't read DoX, and I'm happy. And I don't care for resurrxion. I will not be satisfied, until marvel is hit really hard in their ass, for what they did to x-men and mutants

It took me a while (because I still love the X-Men), but yeah, I feel the same. Imagine my shock, when I started reading DC books and felt the same enjoyment that I used to have with marvel over 10 years ago?

I genuinely thought that all cape books were like marvel. Yeah, I'm a retard
>>
>>87631447
I get that's what they're saying. It's just really pathetic because not only is is completely manufactured success thanks to Scholastic, but it's moving the goal posts in terms of awards.

It'd be like Diamond congratulating DC on having the highest selling Batman book for the month. Technically it's true....but it'd be a fucking bullshit achievement because no one else puts out a Batman book.
>>

compare storytimes of marvel to storytimes of dc.
I don't even go to storytimes, but one look in the catalog is enough to tell which is more popular.

>>
>>87631489
>I genuinely thought that all cape books were like marvel. Yeah, I'm a retard

Yeah, a lot of people are like that. I've noticed that a lot of people who hate superhero comics only read X-men and Spider-man until they got bad, and think that's what all Superheroes are like.
>>
>>87631724
Really? Fucking why?
>>
>>87631767
Because Spider-man and X-men are accessible
>>
>>87631724
To my defense, I always read some other capes, it's just that I was never really well-versed in DC mythos (and I probably never will). It's just that the last few months were really comfy. I always loved Jurgens, and it's amazing that after all these years he still writes Superman. I have patchy knowledge of Superman, but it's hilarious that every decade I decide to pick up Supes, Jurgens is writing him.

I am aware that there was Morrison among others, and etc.

But in all seriousness, maybe except Deadpool (and Duggan really dropped the ball hard), there is literally nothing good out of marvel, and I hate avengers, with their assemble poses, and how they always jump on the threat like in the movies. It's really lame and boring.
>>
>>87631724
What really gets me is when I'm having a discussion with my non-reader friends about how bad Marvel comics are these days, they say things like "This is why I don't read comics". Come on now. Don't treat all comics like Marvel comics.
>>
>>87631767
Because Spidey and Mutants are the only things that are constantly worth reading from marvel.
Sure, you have also Ghost Rider and Punisher. But sometimes you have GR book, and you don't, so it's not stable.

And given the current politics, there isn't any real diversity at marvel, as all their books are quirky, EL OH EL lowest common denominators. You don't see variety of styles, storytelling or the atmosphere. Everything is disneyish, and apparently, X-Men will join the mouse style in spring
>>
>>87631833
It's very sad that Marvel became the face of comics.

What's worse is the people who constantly say "sure Marvel is bad, but DC is just as bad!"
>>
>>87631833
True. But frankly, the comic book readers are a lot to blame. Not enough was done to praise other companies, like, cough, Dark Horse, Image, Valiant, AMONG OTHERS.

and let's not start about european comics....
or 2000ad
>>
>>87631651
Neither. They're both full of people bitching about inconsequential things.
>>
>>87631862
We're talking about popularity. If one thread barely makes 50 posts, and it's an X-book, or Avenger book, while random DC books gets around 120 posts, then yeah, one is not like the other.

Let it sink for a while. Flintstones threads regularly reach the bump limit.
>>
>>87631410
>Champions only sold ONCE, because Marvel gave THE FREE COPIES
What? Marvel didn't give away any free copies. The only book they're giving free copies for is Mosaic #2.
>>
>>87631887
>Flintstones threads regularly reach the bump limit.
So? Flintstones is the best book that DC is putting out. Obviously it's going to reach the bump limit.
>>
>>87631948
Thank you for agreeing with me. The only marvel storytime that reaches the bump limit is Civil War, which is an event book, where nothing happens.

Look, I don't really know what people think about the books, because I avoid storytimes. But every week, when I check the catalog, I see a trend of Distinctive Competition company having numerous storytimes that last for a day, and the other company, which threads die quickly, and it's a trend that happens for last few months.

I don't know if Batman, Teen Titans or Superman are considered good. But they sure as hell are more talked about than Gwenpool (which I admit, used to gather a lot of people in the past).

Also, and this is interesting, every time I check the catalog, when people talk about marvel, it's mostly some butthurt, and it takes like, 25% of the catalog? Or more? At the same time, rarely there is some butthurt towards DC.
>>
>>87623846
>Marvel is on top again
No shit, i's their annual relaunch and they had a new movie. But thing is, 5% is not that big of a margin. During October 2015 thay had a fucking huge lead and DC looked completely finished by ANAD. Right now they're grasping for sales but they don't even have a half of their usual big hitters. Not as many actual #1s (that big red #1 over a fouteenth issue doesn't fool enough people) and some of them already started to flop. I doubt that IvX and Monsters Unleashed can break big numbers.
DC will lead again during december and january, at least considering solicits. Stop the damage control, faggots.
>>

>Lost to fucking Loot Crate

And 2016 just keeps on giving. Marvel barely beat DC on their relaunch with a 400,000 book at $4.99
>>
>>87632378

How is DC going to retake the lead? Marvel can release a ton of #1s because they have more heroes and teams people care about.

Teen Titans had a #1 issue in October and it didn't crack the top ten. DCs roster of relevant heroes isn't half as deep as Marvel.
>>
>>87635648
>things casuals say
>>
>/co/ acting like this is good

So you're all retarded or memeing? Only being ahead by 5% when you had a relaunch that has books which are either 1 or 2 dollars more expensive than your competitor is pathetic especially when you consider that the flagship title had massive inflated sales and will see a 80% drop by issue 2. Fuck DC even has as many titles in the top 10. It seems inevitable that DC will be back on top by December
>>
>>87635648

>How is DC going to retake the lead

Marvels sales are all inflated with variants, 1's and the massive scholastic push of Champions this month and they barely won out. DC has JL v SS launching soon which is weekly. That will be enough to pout them back on top

Marvel barely managed to beat DC in October (less than 2%) despite having Champions #1 (with it's huge buy by Scholastic) the Doctor Strange spin-off #1 (with the movie push) Civil War II (their big event book for the year) and the final issue of Darth Vader.

All that and they still barely managed to scrape across the line for the number one spot.

DC's books are actually selling past issue #1.
>>
>>87627651

That isn't what happened at all you spastic. DCYou saw DC's sales at an all time low and Rebirth brought them right back up. Also sale retention was incredibly high unlike any relaunch from DC or Marvel in years. Literally nobody believed DC would beat out Marvel this month. Look at that top 10. Literally every single of those books was $4.99 with the exception of Vader that was $5.99. And unlike Rebirth where reports from retailers were really positive, Nower is apparently DOA on the retail level so orders will tank hard.
>>
>>87635941

I honestly have no idea why you're laughing. Marvel has nothing in December while DC is launching their first Rebirth event

Doctor Strange's sales isn't mainly a movie bump. A Funko variant cover version was included in Funko's Marvel Collector Corps box (which is like Loot Crate but for Funko stuff), as seen here.

http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2016/10/marvel-collector-corps-box-october-2016-full-spoilers.html

I guess what we learned from this is that Loot Crate still has more subscribers than the Funko Marvel box.
>>
>>87638052
FYI, Marvel just launched their own Loot Crate, and probably for the same reason that they have that Funko thing. It's bimonthly, so from now on expect every two months for the #1 comic to be some grossly inflated Marvel book.

Hell, if they wanted they could fill the box with 10 random Marvel books just to make sure they seem to outsell the competition.
>>
>>87623882
DC almost made the same dollar share on #10's than Marvel did on #1's, while they made more money, they certainly did not "win"
>>
>>87636173
