My only complain about it its that supervillains just "pop up" from nowhere, they don't seem to have any motivation (not even simple ones like robbing banks) they just appear in the middle of the city wrecking things.

Lot of times they even live in rather paceful societies but for some reason random superindividuals realize random acts of evil

First of all you don't know what shonen means, shonen is not a genre, Yotsuba is shonen.

Second, Goku(and dragonball) just rips off older series like Ring ni Kakero and Hokuto no Ken(that's inspire by RnK just like every other battle manga,the ones you call generic nowadays).


Third, there's a million characters that are not what you call the "shonen hero". Pic related is a famous example but if you have any interest you can find much more instead of reading whatever garbage shonen JUMP keeps pumping out. Hell even in JUMP there are original series, World Trigger has a huge cast of characters and it's not about punching hard or anything, teamwork, strategies.

And last, you say highschool but you're just being retarded, it's very rare for a battle manga to be about highschool unless it's a generic harem or something, maybe the MC can go to highschool for 2 or 3 chapters but that's just a way to introduce the story in modern settings which brings a sense of familiarity to the reader, and fantasy manga don't even have that to begin with

Serious (or mostly serious) Japanese takes on cape have several advantages: The market for manga is far bigger than the one for comics, manga are generally self-contained so the writers don't have to play within the convoluted playgrounds of endlessly stacked shit that are shared comic universes, and a good mangaka can really put his skills to shine whereas in the west most are pigeonholed into house style

Most successful cape manga are self aware takes on the concepts behind comics. Actual comics have become a parody of themselves to a very significant extent and 90% of them can be described as soap operas for neckbeards on which the characters also happen to wear tights.

Manga are generally expected to actually end at some point, even if there's not exactly any hurry to get there for one that hits it big, whereas the big 2 attempt to squeeze every last penny from even moderately sucessful characters (not that manga doesn't do this, but it's mostly in the form of merchandise) by essentially prohibiting writers to actually develop them on any significant way so that they can keep their mummified cash cows for decades. If someone miraculously manages to change a popular character, expect that to stick and become another writer's nuisance later

There's also the issue that a lot of the few people who still buy comics are into it for the sake of muh canon and muh powerlevels, and are so tired of the medium as a whole the only way to keep them hooked is to make a disruptive Great Big Event that Will Change Everything™ every couple of years.
