I'm surprised Judge Anon hasn't shown up yet
I have started reading the Case Files 1 today, it's been pretty entertaining
>>87548757
Any stories in particular you have enjoyed so far?
Yeah, I love Judge Nestlé too.
>>87548757
You're in for a ride, bud.
>>87549178
The Krong one was cool, gotta read more
>>87549503
>that cape
Neat
>>87550516
Hershey is literally perfection
What's the best arc and why is it Block Mania/Apocalypse War?
>>87550653
Literally flawless.
>>87550750
Because it's a masterclass in story pacing, threat escalation, compression without excessive density, blunt and effective characterization and setting shift.
And that's just the writing. Ezquerra doing widescreen action comics literally decades before anyone else is a marvel to behold.
>>87548077
Out of the way fags, best Judge coming through
>>87550912
No reason for harsh words. Let's be friends.
Is Hershey asian?
>>87551085
Nope. You'll want to look into Inaba for that.
Or Psi-Judge Zheng.
>>87551143
She sometimes appears to have asian features in some art and it's weird

Better men and women than you have tried. That said, that bit of black bobcut peeking from under the sides of the helmet is the stuff dreams are made of.

Haven't tried Countdown, but I did play the shit out of Dredd vs Death. Fanservice-wise it's grand. Props to them for taking the trouble to program all six Lawgiver rounds, even though I only ever used, like, two. Three at most. And the levels are fucking great.
Also, I love that they used the VA's from the audio novels. Toby Longworth is my absolute favorite voice for Dredd, the perfect mix of gruff badass and sleazy asshole.
>>87552130

You can still play it offline with bots or online with Hamachi, though.
Rob williams is being a fag.
Le clearly forced token innocent pure black character. This new character of his was completely pointless in Enceladus and is pointless now. Its forced as fuck. He doesn't even have a personality. I'm positive he gives himself a pat on the back because the character is black. Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he's gay in the future.
The current story mentions multiple times that he has set up an illegal private server BUT ITS FOR GOOD SO ITS TOTALLY OK wink wink if anyone ELSE set up a private illegal server then its not THAT BAD YOU GUIZ wink wink wink wink
Fuck off.
And in the same issue had a panel directing a citizen to the "Trump Crater Memorial" either implying Trump was assassinated or le evil Hitler Trump bombed a bunch of people.
Fucking pathetic these libcucks that aren't even fucking American can't keep their own political bias out of science fiction comics.
Thank god for Henry Flints god tier art or I'd drop this shit.

Dark satire has always been a stable of Dredd.
So calm your tits - you don't get your knickers in a twist over (insert politician here) being lampooned.
Do grow up and enjoy Different Opinions Than Your Own™
>>87558444
dude chill, sam sucked in enceladus but he's pretty likeable here
Trump memorial centre is hardly anything more than Rowdy Yates block or McGruder street, its not pro or anti in any way.
seriously if you want to get annoyed by something like that check the recent beeby story, now that made me wanna drop the prog.
>>87562368
The difference is its not simply lampooning politics. I would be fine if there was an even share of shots taken. There isnt.
This is the writer injecting his own politics into the story.
>>87562596
Welcome to Dredd
>>87562596
Yeah, because that never happens in satire at all otherwise.
Also, Trump is universally an idiot.
But then so's Hillary and your entire, simplified-for-idiots political circus.
In Dredd such a fact will just be pointed out, laughed at, ridiculed and generally kicked as it's down.

Judge anon, what was the story wherein some judges go to a perps house and see their fantasies?

>>87564714
oh baby
>>87548077
So when we went to see Dredd 3D none of my friends really knew much about Dredd (They liked the movie) but when that black lady who played the chief judge appeared I and like ONE other guy in the back of the theater started cracking up over Judge "Hershey"
I know it wasn't likely supposed to be her but I still had a giggle.
>>87565425
Hershey is sort of mentioned in the film
She gets assigned to a deal with a riot by herself.
>>87565495
>>87562153
If I like it I'll get the whole damn thing.
I really wanna read #3 because the dark judges look cool, but I can't read anything out of order.
>>87549442
It is now my head canon that Judge Nestle is the chief judge of that bizarro Judge dimension Dredd visited.
Complete Case Files Hershey Vol #1 when?
>>87565863
#5 has both an amazing Dark Judges arc and possibly the best major arc of the franchise almost immediately after it.
So, that Case Files has all Dredd comics ever? Or only stories with Dredd?
What are some good stories with off-world judges?
>>87565425
My personal head cannon is that she is sector chief rather than chief judge of the whole city
>>87566894
It's mostly the stuff with Dredd as the MC, though that makes up like 98% of the comic. They also contain the stories where he's a minor character.
The solo Anderson stories get their own books and I think the progs that are in the annuals are collected separately as well.
>>87566894
Just the main Judge Dredd stories that appeared in 2000ad and Judge Dredd Megazine. So almost everything staring Judge Dredd except some side stories. Most notably America and the Necropolis prologue story Tale of the Dead man are collected separately.
There are also a bunch of stories set in Dredd's world that don't feature Dredd, too many to list here. Some are collected for the rest you will have to seek out original issues
>>87550516
They vote now in Dredd?
>>87567379
The judges gave people a vote for the chief judge.
There were also mayoral elections but I don't know what happened to them after the best mayor died.
May he rest in peace.

>>87568207I know
>>87568148
>>87568207
Actually got me wondering, is entrapment a thing Judges would have to worry about?
Never really read the comic but I always got the impression that if your name isn't Dredd you're probably doing/done SOMETHING illegal they can get you on if they look close enough
>>87568207Is fetishizing or fucking a Judge actually illegal?
>>87568316
For the former, not unless one starts jimping. For the latter, not illegal per se but they'll probably arrest you on a technicality if you're aware your partner is a Judge.
>>87565425
I just assumed it was mmcgruder, and they cast whoever this is to fill the diversity quota
>>87568818
concept art shows se origonally was designed after her, the script show she was never named however
>>87568265
Yes. One of SJS' tactics to root out bad judges are "routine honeypot tests", where an undercover operative acting like a regular citizen will try to tempt the suspected judge.
>>87566911
Insurrection and Lawless are the best modern ones. "Postcards from the Edge", the Anderson story, was also pretty good, if a bit weird and of its time.
>>87564255

>>87568972
hey JA, whats your opinion on the current line up in the prog?
Savage and Hunted are the only things im really enjoying right now
>>87569005
>>87569019
Eh, it's hot, but it doesn't hold a candle to Hershey's fantasy BDSM outfit.
>>87569013
I think it started out pretty slow, but it's really starting to pick up these last two weeks. Hunted and Dredd in particular were really hard sells, but they're coming into their own.
Savage is fucking great though. That full page reveal of the Stare was spectacular.
>>87569045
And because I like you, let's have another story that is completely unrelated. Yes sir. Not a single relation. Nuh-uh.
>>87569107
>>87568316
Fetishizing, if acted on it (anything from fapping to a picture to dressing your gf in a judge uniform to bang her), can be considered engaging in lascivious activities using the image of a judge.
Fucking is a bit more awkward because, if done consensually, then the judge is just at fault as you are and will most likely get either kicked off the force or, even worse, sent to Titan. There is an extremely thin possibility of you getting away scott free, but more likely than not you'll end up doing time anyway.
>>87569193
There's a moral here somewhere.
>>87569045
hunted isnt technically good but i still like it regardless as i think the quality of the TG really shines though
kind of like Suicide Squad or something
i feel like last week was the first time anyhting happened in counterfeit girl since it started. which suck because i love Milligan
Now here's a redesign I can get behind.
>>87569260
I really like Counterfeit Girl, but the disease thing is absolutely killing it for me. It's supposed to be this big deadly crap that's always a hair away from killing Libra, but we see her running around from one end of the city to another with absolutely no change. It's like the strip itself is constanty shouting "RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK! BORROWED TIME! EVERY STEP COULD BE YOUR LAST!" but doing very little to actually sell the idea.
>>87569215
Damn
>>87569336
i like libra kelly as a character but thats about it, it really feels way to close to Shadows, which is pretty much the same plot from what i remember.
at least the trump cyborg has a cool design
>>87569499
Yeah, and the old-style uniforms give it a nice Royal Family feel that I'm really digging. It's a nice variation of the usual evil corporation style.
Anywho, I'm really looking forward to the Christmas prog and next year's new stories. Plus, more The Order and Grant back on Anderson.
>>87569589
that'll all be good, still mostly hyped for realm of the dammed book 2 and more order
I'm surprised there was all that chat about the Chief Judge's rearguard and nobody posted this.

>>87570377
It is a pretty sexy helmet.
>>87570375
odd tempest never returned after the cliffhanger, im surprised artie gruber is considered forggoten
cursed earth asylum any good?
>>87570476
I dunno, I've never really read any of the novels. And yeah, Harlem Heroes in general is one of those things that has been left behind, apart from the very odd mention in Dredd strips.
As for Tempest, he was Ewing's character, so I imagine it's one of those things where once the creator left, nobody wanted to pick it back up. Shame really. It was a great strip.
>>87570515
i guess Heroes makes sense, for being one of the first ever african american led comics, it sure was racist at times
>>87570585
I don't think it was that racist. There was hardly any jive talk, only one character was from the projects, and they were all definite heroes to a tee.
Compare it to, say, "Our Man in Hondo" or "Warlord" or the first Robo-Hunter story, and it's downright progressive. What is it with early 2000AD and asians...
>>87570453
Now THIS is more like it.
Let's do something a bit more off the beaten path tonight. From 2000AD fanzine Zarjaz issue 26, this is... "A Day in the Life".

Hondo was decent, but the fucking Charlie Chan "So sorry. Much misfortune. Very sad" narration was grating as shit. And Warlord was a hodgepodge of random Chinese and Japanese shallow pop culture thrown at the wall and mixed together.
Also, I'd totally forgotten about Hojo. I thought you meant the Heroes themselves.
>>87570890
Thanks, Judge

My pleasure.
>>87571174
Derp, sorry, didn't read it well. But there was definitely a thing there with all those asian stereotypes. If I had to theorize, I'd say it's that the average UK person grew up with far, far more asian than black stereotypes, and that bled into their works.

So I've been wondering for a while, do they ever show what the rest of Mega City One looks like? It can't ALL look exactly like most of the comics, right? Dredd and co seem to spend most of their time in the area right on top of what used to be New York City, so there's millions of people there already before the Mega Cities even came into play, but what about the rest? Lots of the Northeast US in that area is rural farmlands and mountains- did they level the entire Appalachian mountains? Were the existing structures all razes over or simply built around and on top of?
>>87577575
They covered it over and build on top of it
The old building still exist in a place called the undercity where light never gets to but people live there anyway somehow.
>>87570890
>Hegel N. Kosch
laughing_/k/ommandants.jpg
>>87577594
But in so much of those areas there was nothing to cover over except dirt and grass. Maybe a few cows and deer.
Did they build at ground level like sensible, smart people, or make an undercity everywhere and elevate the whole city for no reason like a bunch of retards?
>>87577739
There are really two answers to this
1, the geography of MC1 makes no damn sense trying to work it out will just hurt your head. It flat out ignores the existing terrain and seems to assume that everywhere is New York.
2, Yes they really did demolish the Appalachian mountains for building materials and raise the level of city bottom in areas they wanted to preserve (but that were too polluted to salvage) leaving places like old New York and Washington mutie infested nether worlds
3, don't get me started on population density
>>87577204
see
>>87569336
>>87578482
Answer one is the one that makes the most sense in a Doylist way. Dredd's creators are british and their view of the USA was mostly just the biggest cities they saw in movies and heard about in the news. It's why Mega-City One has those huge, curved, nonsensical highways that are more Los Angeles than New York. It's a mish-mosh of metropolitan landscapes exaggerated to size, and everything else is glossed over.
Answer 2 is the best in-universe/watsonian answer to me. They *would* use mountains as building blocks, and it would explain shit like buying and importing the White Cliffs of Dover. They have no more mountains to show so they have to start bringing them over.
>>87578482
>3, don't get me started on population density
let's
talk
POPULATION DENSITY
>>87578482
>It flat out ignores the existing terrain and seems to assume that everywhere is New York.
As an upstate New Yorker, that's okay I guess. We're already used to everyone thinking the entire state is New York City, why not extend it to the whole East Coast?
I'm going to assume to this day everyone in Britain is Arthur Dent and doesn't believe New York actually exists.
>>87571507
And she's also a pure waifu because Judges aren't allowed to sex.
Unlike that filthy slut Psi-Judge Anderson who's tits should be sagging to her knees by now,
since Psi-powers burn out your body and prevent you from undergoing rejuvenation treatments normal judges undergo to stay street-capable for longer.

>>87578757
Alright you ask for it look at this map
>>87577102
It shows the city after the apocalypse war with a population of 400 million mostly living in citi-blocks. Each block holds at least 50,000 cits with many being even larger but lets stick with that lowest number for simplicity. So that's around 8000 blocks total spread between the 305 surviving sectors or slightly more than 26 block per sector. Even without knowing exactly how big a sector is it's clear that we are talking about city sized areas with just a couple of dozen blocks in them.Even if large areas are used for industry and transport there should still be space for everyone to have a nice house and garden

The city is far too large for its population. Spread them out evenly and they'd barely be in sight of one another. The current inhabited city is just leftovers amidst the ruins of what we see in that map in >>87577102 - mostly centered around Meg Central/East I'd imagine. I like the idea that there's huge swathes of ruins around now - kinda suits the Dreddwolrd ambience.
Still probably a tiny pop. density though given that the arcology-like city blocks have to be one of the efficient ways of stacking so many people into a small area - so what takes up the space?:
>Robo factories, producing all the crap the citizens consume.
>Resyk plants
>Spaceports gotta be pretty fucking huge.

Amazon's got the Case Files, which're basically phone books that have most of the Dredd-focused stories. They're pretty affordable and even come with Kindle, too.
Start from the first Judge Dredd Case Files for everything. Otherwise, I've heard that the fifth is a general good place to start.
>Talking about the time Hershey had to go undercover
>Not even posting the panel
That's a storytime.
>>87613333
Alright, some background: this was right after Judge McGruder returned from the disastrous Hestia trip and realized her failing mental faculties were severely affecting her judgment. So ol' Hilda stepped down and declared there'd be an election, the first of its kind, to choose the next Chief Judge.
>>87613333
The man's a legend, but Eszquerra doesn't exactly draw sexy women.
>>87613370
>>87613386
>>87613379
Sure he does. Angelina DiGriz was a babe, and so is Durham Red. Thing about Ezquerra is that he draws exceedingly sexy women... from like 30-40 years ago.
>>87613405
Well, let's just say that Hershey panel wasn't exactly loading my Lawrod.
>>87613405

>>87613485
Alright, here we go...
>>87613429
>Plus, there's a certain rough, grimy quality to his art that makes it perfect for cool badass action
Ezquerra's art doesn't look so nice in the new issues. I suppose it's because of digital coloring or something like that. Then I open some of the old scans where he's in B&W and it's beautiful (in that rough and grimy way).
>>87613518
Honestly, I think that if Dredd had known that Volt was going to drop in, he wouldn't have suggested that Hershey throw her helmet into the ring.
>>87613518
Ok, so two things that crack me up about this whole thing:
A) We'll learn in two pages that this was material taken while she was working undercover. Meaning that at some point in time, some lowlife stripper club/porno peddler/lewd photographer was told they had a new girl coming in, and found himself suddenly staring at this brick shithouse of a woman who can't have been totally comfortable with the situation trying to act sexy. Which is, in itself, a story I'd pay to read.
>>87613572
And B) That WIG. Holy shit, it's like a dead, tarred toucan in there. Holy fuck.
>>87613542
He has slowed down quite a bit, but I think his art nowadays is in a very comfortable, solid place. Certainly much better than the horrible early digital coloring of this storytime. That said, Prime Ezquerra to me will always be that beautiful couple of years in the late 80s when he was doing hand colored stuff. Necropolis is a work of art.
>>87613559
Makes sense. Especially considering the ending.
>>87613609
>>87613572
Huh. I'd forgotten that she wasn't even wearing a thong.
I always figured that the other pages involved her fucking someone. You always put the tamest shit on top, to lead in to the big reveal.

>>87613822
I wonder why Agnew, if that's who that was, was surprised that Volt won over Dredd. Unless they were expecting a ton of Senior Judges to just skip voting.
Where/how is the food supply of Mega-Cities produced?
It's hilarious how much of a "Last Option" Hershey seems to be. It took years of heroic action, a citywide chaos, and an opponent who was a massive bore for her to nail her first Chiefdom, and even then she mentioned she'd never gone down well with the old guard.
And then she got literally crucified, metaphorically crucified, kicked out, and then they begged her to come back when shit got too real.
Motherfuckers don't deserve her.
>>87613919
Probably synthetic food
>>87613901
I think it's because street judges can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want Dredd as the Chief, but everyone above them realizes how much of a bad idea that'd be.
>>87613919
Either in the city or in farms out in the Cursed Earth. In fact, why don't we read about it?
>>87613966
Also, some of it is actually made inresyk.
>>87613919
There's a few methods. They've got farms out in the Cursed Earth that grow meat on trees, munce plants, and cattle. Some facilities in the city. One of the plots in the Dredd audio dramas involves an Amish farming facility in Mega-City One.
Resyk also plays a role, but not likely in direct cannibalism. Prion damage and all that.
Fishing in the Black Atlantic pulls in food.
A lot of the food is outright artificial, created by factories in Mega-City One. Such as mock-choc.
Some space trade.
And the Justice Department grinds up insects, bugs, minor parasites, and things like that into paste, then sells them as generic foods, drinks, and protein bars.

Otto gets fucked like that in just about every storyline he appeared in. Up to and including his death. The Justice Department shuts down pretty much every business he starts, or at least fucks him over hard.
But he was a great guy throughout all of it. He's pretty much the purest, friendliest most innocent soul in Mega-City One. He was also a fantastic businessman. Pretty much everything he did turned to gold and he managed to turn less than a hundred million to several billion credits over the course of thirty years.
