Amedot was not the original plan, neither was lapidot. Both are bad ships. Amedot had one moment that's ripped from a bad fanservice anime and lapidot is so unearned and jarring that if Gem Harvest turns out to be 22 minutes of lesbians farmers, this show will drop from a 9 to a 7 in my eyes.

I don't know about Lapis's VA, but I don't think Peridot's VA is hard to get. She's practically a nobody in the VA scene and gets featured in a fuckton of episodes (way more than Garnet gets recently). I knew from the second I saw Peridot and Lapis that they'd get paired up in some way when they eventually interacted in a show like this. Just look at them. And it's not like they could be shoehorned into the core group, they'd always be outsiders in a way and were introduced as part of the same "trio". Of course they'd get lumped together

I wouldn't say it's in a shippy way though, and neither for amedot. I don't think there is or ever was a "plan", just friendship with storyboarders who have the freedom to throw in some ambiguous moments if they want. None of these three characters have expressed any romantic interest in each other, fans just overhype and look too hard into cutesy moments

Steven extends the same kind of love to Peridot as he does everybody, Peridot loves Steven because she's he's all she had at first and everybody loves Steven, and she clings to him because they happen to be the same height and she's a scaredy cat. There's been nothing romantic about it like there was with Connie and their almost-kisses and shy blushes and slow dances and junk

I do wish there would be something canon for Peridot though so everybody could shut up. Peridot became a mistake in so many ways
