This is actually my favorite issue of Multiversity. I'm a sucker for reference material shit like this.
>>
>>
>>87493848
No shame. I don't remember offhand, if the DCAU represented in some way here or an I SOL
>>
>>
>>
>>87493913
DCAU is present, its just the timeline there has reached Batman Beyond, so the JL Beyond are the ones respresenting it.
>>
>>
>>87493913
Earth-12 is DCAU.

>>
>>
>>87493913
Sort of. One of the worlds is the Batman Beyond world. So I guess you could assume that its history is the DCAU stuff.

>>87494101

You mean Yale's? Nope. They have had the Lil' Leaguers since the early 2000s, they first appeared in a Superman/Batman team up book and have appeared a few times since.

The Superman was killed in that story line, which is also referenced here by Morrison, so it's presumably the same Earth. He just added the Empty Hand reference on top.
>>
>>
>>87494169
People often travel through time when traveling through the multiverse and vice versa. It happened to the Legion of Superheroes a few times.

Time is the fourth dimension and the multiverse is the fifth dimension.
>>
>>
>>87494104

I've never read Kamandi but who is the guy and why is kinda sorta dressed like Orion?

And if he is Orion, why wouldn't he be with the New Gods in this section?
>>
>>
>>
>>87494330
Ben Boxer. It's just a Kirby-esque design.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>87494177
I fucking love this design.
Also, do you think the Kamandi Challenge will have anything to do with this?
>>
>>87494330
That's Ben Boxer. He's a member of the last surviving group of Humans on Kamandi's Earth, the Nuclear People. They helped rescue Kamandi after he was enslaved by the Tiger Empire.

He dresses like Orion because Jack Kirby draws everybody in the same clothes.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>87494598
So, Earth-14 is splitting in two, and it's apparently been described as "a new way for worlds to enter the Orrery"... but I can't find anything about that other than mentions on /co/. Anyone know where that was said?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>87494614
It was some old Newsarama interview with the artist who put the map together.

I like to imagine that Earth-14 is the world of Superman-Red and Superman-Blue. Fits with the whole "splitting in two" theme.
>>
>>
>>87494481
Great thanks. I've read the Wednesday Comics Kamandi but I've been waiting for DC to release the original run as digitals. I've got the scans somewhere on a drive so I should just fucking force myself to read them or buy a trade if one exists.

Can I just say that I kind of hate that they didn't allow Morrison to define all 52 Earths, instead forcing him to keep some in reserve?

It's not like anyone else is ever going to define what those Earths are.
>>
>>
>>
>>87494662
That'd be cool.
I imagine that it's got two Earths unaware of each other - think Mondas from Doctor Who, I guess. Counter-planets.
You could probably combine that with the "one hero split into several" thing.
>>
>>87494800
Is it true they didn't let him or did he just not want to fill all of them in case he got an idea for a new Earth layer down the road?
>>
>>
>>87494800
IIRC It was Morrison who held back on revealing everything.
>>
>>
>>87494015
Noice
>>
>>87494843
He had ideas for all 52 Earth, but editorial asked him to keep seven undefined in case they wanted to come up with some Earths of their own.
>>
>>
>>87494843
I think it was less in case he got an idea, and more that he didn't want to be a dick and block off all possibilities for other authors.
>>
>>
>>
>>87494895
I'd eat at Superdoomday Burger.
>>
>>
>>87494889
That sounds like DC and it does make sense, even with him defining some of these Earths, I doubt they will necessarily use them.

I can see them at some point down the line doing a tribute to Darwyn and putting out a New Frontier follow-up of some kind. But other than that possibility, it's highly unlikely that anyone will ever do anything with that Earth and that DC, at some point - I'm looking at you Cereal King - won't take some of those designations for some other idea they have.

It sort of makes sense.

When you have a dream, every person in the dream is you. Your mind created them, so they all represent some part of yourself.

Remember, Ultra is not the guy in this comic book, Ultra IS the comic book. When we read the comic book, we are looking into the mind of a living being. Every character in the story is a different manifestation of that being's conscious self-awareness.

Grant loves the very esoteric edges of the DC omniverse; I think it helps, with his thinking, for him to make all the connections that he does and how he ties in the past with whatever he is writing in the present. Unfortunately, most other writers don't really take it past where Grant leaves it, as the New 52 Action run post issue #19 proves.

Nope. On rare occasions, Johns will actually steal from other people and build on them, instead of building on his own ideas (e.g. Darkseid War is partially a fall out of Trinity War/Forever Evil, which is partially blah blah).

Also, this (not specifically those panels but Mutliversity) picks up from other things Morrison did in Final Crisis and in Countdown.

Somebody redpill me on everything about Empty Hand. It's Ultra Comics and us and the writer and God or something?

As soon as DC finds some writers with nuts.

Well, Prez is originally from his own self-titled series in the 70's by Captain America co-creator Joe Simon. But yes, he was also in Sandman.

Throughout Multiversity, there's this nihilistic anti-fiction undercurrent, epitomized by the series' villains. Not just the Empty Hand and his Gentry, but also Nightshade's father and the Earth-5 Doctor Sivana and even Overman's wife. The idea being suggested is that fiction is somehow bad for you, because it ages you. You waste your precious hours on this Earth reading about imaginary people who will stay young and vibrant forever, while you keep growing older. In that sense, it's almost like fictional characters are some kind of youth-vampire, draining your life away every time you indulge yourself in their stories.

Even Mister Stubbs, one of the good guys, allows himself to fall into this faulty way of thinking. "Aren't we getting too old for comic books," he asks, foreshadowing the message of the Gentry.

The heroes of the story, the OJI, represent the opposite view of fiction. The idea that reading about fictional characters makes us better people, because heroes can inspire us to emulate them, and villains can serve as cautionary examples that teach us how to avoid becoming like them. Every hero is fictional on every world except his own, but by reading about each other's adventures, they make each other better and also make us better. And we make all of them better by creating new stories about them and supporting them with our comic-buyng dollars (unless you're one of those filthy pirates, from a pirate universe).

The hand at the beginning of creation has been part of DC lore for a while, if that's what you're referencing.
