The Thanksgiving Turkey episode, I was at my grandma's house with my brother and we where bored and looking for something to watch and my brother saw what he thought were cute looking character and he left it there for me and him to watch.

I was like 7 at the time and I remember thinking Kenny was cool looking and "Oh I like Kenny" then suddenly I see my brother making faces and saying "Wow this is definitely not a kid's show" and then all of a sudden Kenny gets eaten by Turkeys and my brother starts laughing and I'm surprised by it but I think it's funny too.

He's pretty funny, they pulled him off pretty well.

So, I watched a few older episodes recently and got thinking: Do they drop characters because they don't have uses for them anymore, or because actors leave/die, or both?

It's interesting seeing Ned in older episodes, he's fucking never in newer episodes even when he would fit perfectly with episodes including guns or hicks. Jimbo is way rarer too considering he was one of the most common adults in season 1. I know Chef is gone because his actor doesn't like Scientology getting mocked, but it's interesting they don't do anything with some other characters.

South Park is interesting because it never really introduces new characters the way a lot of shows do. With the exception of PC principal, it just kind of pulls background characters in like butters or randy and fleshes them out.

They prefer to scrap characters they don't like anymore, and in cases like Ned and Dr. Alphonse they'll basically delete them, but in other cases (Like Mr. Garrison) they'll completely change the character.

Like, Mr. Garrison was a teacher with a puppet, and then he was super gay, he dropped the puppet completely, he turned into a "woman", and then a lesbian, and then back to a man, and now he's running for president. All of these characters share the name, but they're practically new characters.

They totally introduce new character though. Tweek didn't show up for a few seasons, and since then he's been on again and off again with important episodes, even now he got those gay episodes with Craig. The goths weren't always there, hell even Jimmy was a new character that first appeared in season 5. There are plenty of other recurring characters that weren't in the show at first, like Mr. Slave. Hell, Kyle's Dad didn't show up until episode 8, which doesn't seem like much but many shows die at 13 episodes.

It isn't that South Park doesn't add new characters, it's that with a cast of well over a hundred recurring characters it rarely needs to add new permanent cast members.

The earliest episode I have a memory of seeing was "Do the handicapped go to hell?" from Season 4 in french, on Teletoon. This may have been around 2002 or so, before I turned 6 later that year.

I liked the show but it wasn't until 2006 when my brother torrented the first season in french that I began truly enjoying it.

I watched the series premier with my dad when I was 7 years old. My mom hated it but my dad found it hilarious and thought I should be allowed to watch it. Gonna be honest, I can't remember. I started watching when I was like 3 and had this obsession with Kenny for a while. My mom let me watch it since I was young enough to not understand what anything meant and just saw it as a cartoon.

When I started getting older, that's when she started "restricting" me from watching episodes without her permission (but fuck that I had my own TV in my room so it was easily bypassed)
