Could this cartoon ever work in a modern context? I know it couldn't exist from 2001-2003 but afterwards?Would you even want it to?
young adult sol is probably a lot more workable these days then it was years ago.
Surprised MTV Classic doesn't pimp this show or Celebrity Deathmatch.

Yeah but now I hate young adults and their life slices. Especially wannabe trendy teenagers beta males and their sardonic fat friends without benefits. ESPECIALLY on MTV.
Goats cool though.

Celebrity Deathmatch's revival was an embarassing failure they're probably trying to avoid reminding people of that, even to the point of not bringing up the good seasons. While Downtown was just never popular.
You used to be able to buy a burned DVD with all the episodes in TV quality off the guys that made this show through their tumblr or something, because MTV will never ever let it get a proper DVD set release.
Dont know if they still do that.
Its a great show though. Thick asian chick was the best. Her and Goat fucked all the time though, and goats probably carrying all sorts of disease.

>Fucked Goat
Based on what?
>>87464578
What is this and why wouldn't modern SJWs let it get made?

They weren't teens, they were in their early 20s
It's been a while but I don't there's much about Downtown that really dates it. If it was made nowadays I guess Chaka and Mecca would be glued to their smartphones or something but I don't think many of the episodes would change much.
Conventions are still a thing, minors will forever be sneaking into clubs, insomnia is still shit and more people go thrift shopping nowadays than ever before I'd wager.
I guess they'd substitute the Undertaker for a wrestler that's more relevant.
I really miss that show.

Based on nothing. She wouldn't touch goat with a stick.
And yes, the show would work now, but the VAs probably wouldn't come back so why bother.
>Could this cartoon ever work in a modern context?
Well yeah. The idea behind the show was seeing the view of New York through the eyes of modern teenagers and such. All they'd have to do is keep that application. The characters as they are now probably wouldn't work though.
>>87465528
Given that poor teenagers can't afford 2016 hip parts of NYC thanks to the hipster influx, the show would be very different.
It would be all rich white people bragging about how diverse and accepting they are in their gentrified neighborhoods.

I don't know. It's so firmly set in late 90s culture, it's hard for me to imagine it being set in a different period.
Oh shit, are we having a Downtown thread? I love Downtown. It has such a chill, cool atmosphere to it, I could watch it over and over.

They flirt, they do, don't lie.
They swapped clothes so there comfortable being nude around each other. (Halloween episode)
>>87465188
Alex's sister and her friends were definitely still teens.
>>87468412
No I excluded those years because fat fucking chance getting a show ABOUT a group of people almost literally living in the shadow of the Trade Center made in those 3 years.
>>87464657
Huh, I don't remember this scene.
