Ah jeez Rick, I don't think you can just substitute cheap shock gags for actual writing ahh!

Nah Morty, peo-urp-ple love suicide bits.

They're worth it just for the self serious fags that get offended or think they're so above such lowbrow humor. It's like watching a little kid trying to prove his maturity to someone else.

I remember when /co/ liked Rick and Morty. But then, I remember when /co/ liked a lot of things.
I've been here too long. I hate this place.
>>
>>87459892
/co/ still likes pretty much every fetish of 2D porn. So that's something at least.
>>
>>87459892

Rick and Morty got too popular. 4chan can't like something if it's popular.
>>
>>87460190
Over the Garden Wall?
>>
>>87460257

Didn't last long enough to get as popular as Rick and Morty. If it wasn't a miniseries but was instead a show, people would start hating it by the 2nd season.
>>
>>87460276
you mean second episode.
>>
>>87460276
True, since it's safely over we can all say how much we loved it. If there's ever a second, expectations will either inflate due to hype or people will call it shit right out the bat.

Hype letdown or overwrought comparison and anal-retentive nitpicking might follow. Or people might just assume it's good and not really discuss it. Honestly it's kind of how 4chan just works.
>>
>>87460257
It's niche.

I THOUGHT WE HAD A THING

I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE NEXT FUTURAMA

Why wHy WHY DID YOU HAD TO DISAPPOINT WITH SEASON 2
>>
>>87461627
Season 2 was fucking great.
>>
While season 2 wasn't as good as season 1, it was still one of the best cartoon seasons of the last year. I also didn't think it was cheap. Rick doing that weird stuff he does to nearly kill himself is like when we hit against the wall or crush a light bulb with out hands out of anger and self-hate.

I swear to God, /co/ is so fucking fickle.

We don't need trips or anything, what we need is a persistent user identifier that cannot be seen by others, but that has some sort of consistency score which sums peoples value judgements about topics that are inconsistent with one another over close periods of time.

Then we need a filter so we don't see posts by people with a low score.

That would be great.
>>
>>87461627
Futurama is middling with a few good episodes
>>
>>87462087
>While season 2 wasn't as good as season 1
I disagree.
>>
>>87461627
Season 2 was pretty much season 1.
>>
>>87461627
Season two had more slightly weaker episodes but still nothing I'd call bad, even the Purge episode was like 6/10
Futurama has tons of totally middling, forgettable episodes, and some that are downright awful. It's a good, comfy show but I wouldn't cite it as an example of consistant outstanding quality.
At least R&M's next season has more episodes than the last two and it seems like they put a shitload of effort into the writing. There's a chance for more great eps when there's more eps in general
>>
>>87462982
Futurama has five seasons of fucking garbage thanks to comedy central.
>>
>>87462992
I don't think you can blame CC for that, as it's the creative team (largely the original one) that dropped the ball with the storytelling, characterizations, and jokes.
I'm not sure why the quality declined so much, though it's not like I think it was a mistake to bring it back. It could have worked, it just didn't. There's a decent number of passable/salvageable eps and NuFuturama is definitely more watchable and inspired than Zombie Simpsons, not that that's a high bar.
>>
>>87463060
No, I absolutely can blame CC.
They thought they wouldn't have to keep the writers on a leash and they went full retard and ruined the fucking show with shipping, fan service, etc...

>There's a decent number of passable/salvageable eps
I do not agree. I refuse to watch that fucking crap.
I sat through the movies and those nearly gave me fucking cancer.
Fuck Comedy Central Futurama.
>>
>>87460276
I actually have seen people shit on it... But, of course, it all came down to people saying stuff like

>It has no good aspects other than 'muh comfy'
>Wirt is such a bitch, how can you like this show with him as the lead
>Greg is so annoying! I can't stand him!
>>
>>87463089
Futurama genuinely seemed like the kind of show where it would benefit from not having a leash, though. It's not like it's John K where the sensibility is so inclined towards gross-out and shock humor that you have to make it kid friendly to even have it be palatable.
Less restrictions on Futurama to me would imply the ability to tell longer and more dramatic and involved sci-fi stories (which they did a couple of times) and less notes from Fox executives trying to make the show more normie, it seemed like a good idea.
In the end I think it just succumbed to seasonal rot and running out of ideas like most long-running shows, and the break between seasons did not help it. The Simpsons having 9 great seasons remains pretty unprecedented, depending on how you feel about South Park
>>
>>87458339
thats retarded
>>
>>87460257
OTGW is beloved, not popular.
>>
>>87460190
See I'd agree with this.

But Avatar is incredibly popular and even has a huge Reddit AND tumblr fanbase, but /co/ still likes it. I actually find it pretty surprising that modern /co/ doesn't rag on it.
>>
>>87463378
/co/ has almost universally despised Korra more than the rest of the internet though
A:TLA probably gets a pass because most people enjoyed it while it was airing and it's now genuinely nostalgic for a lot of the posters here. I got burnt out on it around 2009 when Nicktoons reran it 24/7 and haven't attempted to watch it again but that's just me
>>
>>87463424
Korra's a whole different beast I think, but I think it's interesting that /co/'s never on the majority hated AtLA. I think it's the only cartoon that aired in its entirety when /co/ was around that's escaped being hated either as it aired or retroactively.
>>
>>87463508
Probably due to its ambition and coming on during the start of the dark ages, it was clearly superior in production quality to most of the shows on at that time.
Now there's competition in the serialized/lore-driven shows genre so there's more fighting about which is better, and none have quite the same wide appeal. I was 8 when it came on and distinctly remember most kids, boys and girls, being enamored with it and making sure to catch the next episode up til the end. Had the right balance of drama, comedy, action, and an appealing fantasy setting, plus good art and distinct/likable characters. Only reason you could hate it is for being weebshit
>>
>FEMALE WRITERS
prepare for the quality drop, guys
>>
>>87464019
There was a podcast interview with two of the newbies, it seems like they really know their shit sci-fi wise and they gave a lot of info about the production process (namely how they cracked the stories and rewrote the scripts over and over again so that they could be as good as possible). Ryan Ridley also scrapped an entire episode of his because he thought it wasn't up to the quality of others.
They're definitely taking the process and living up to the standards set by the show seriously

>"I want to turn 4chan into reddit"

LMAO have an upboat friend
>>
>>87464094
To be fair while I liked the second season, it felt to me like they were already recycling the same jokes and situations and that they didn't feel as good as the first time, so I'm curious to see what direction they're gonna take this time, I think it will be the season where I decide whether I like the show as a whole or if it was a one hit thing. I still have season 1 in case
