Welcome back Anons! Today, I thought we'd take a brief vacation from Bendis and read the Arcudi-penned Luke Cage mini.
>"Where's our BIG Geek?"
You're already there, Peter.
>>87418052
Can't say I've been a fan of this art
>that Belt buckle with "CAGE" written on it"
You know, if you've got to have him dress only in street clothes, that's probably the closest we'll get to a costume.
We get it Peter, you're a science guy.
>>87418124
Just treat the writing as a vacation from Bendis, who is blessed with the good artists.
I mentioned it a few times back when we did the Power Man series, Luke taking money for doing his thing was typically done as a way to make him more relocatable to the people he worked for. Whereas Spider-Man will beat up Doctor Octopus and swing away, leaving cynics like JJ to make up their own reasons why he does it, Luke will tell them he does it for the money. At the same time though, he only takes money depending on the situation.
For instance, a kid's dad's shop is getting wrecked by Unus the Untouchable? Kid hires him for the only nickle he has.
>"A year ago, you would've packed for me."
What Jessica Jones have YOU met, Luke?
And Danille is suddenly a lot lighter, and has different hair.
When was the last time you saw legit thought bubbles in a modern Big Two comic, outside of Bendis's Mighty Avengers, where he tried and failed to do a classic comic.
Kid, you don't have to be a shitter ALL your life.
Oh gee, I wonder if the guy in the big poster will be important.
>Hammerhead
They actually HAVE met, believe it or not. Luke and Danny were part of his prison transfer guard once.
It basically ended the same way.
Hammerhead got a big power upgrade in BND, right?
>Mr. Negative
Hey, remember when HE was a big deal?
>unregistered hero
Yep, this was just before Siege, sounds like.
>Luke worried about fixing the shit he wrecked
Maybe it's just my city, but have any of you seen any working payphones around lately? Where I live, they've all been removed.
>>87418314
White washing
God damn it, what did you do?
>>87418677
Don't start, Anon. For all of our sake's.
Handycapable Kraven the Hunter?
>>87418724
I won't, I just wanted to call it as I see it
By the way, before anyone gets up my butt, I find the word "Handycapable" to be funnier than "Handicapped".
If Bendis just made this Luke's costume, I really wouldn't mind, especially if he kept the belt buckle.
Seriously kids, just grab the damn trash lids, and use THEM as bases.
Oh look, random politician from the first issue is back gain.
>telling Luke Cage you're helping heroin dealers
You're lucky you're already in the hospital with your ass pre-kicked, otherwise he'd just fuck you up AGAIN.
So this mini is basically just "Luke Cage fucks up a heroin dealers all by himself". At least it's back to basics for him.
Well, at least the cover didn't dissapoint. We do indeed get to see Luke Cage fight a tiger. Several ones, at that.
>Lionfang
For those who weren't here that long ago, he was a one-off villain back before he changed his name to Power Man. One of the Scourges claimed to have killed him off-panel in 1991, but I guess they just retconned it. To be fair, I don't believe we SAW him do it.
You can read this story yourself at >>83060428
That's basically all you need to know about this guy.
Wow, I can't possibly see any use in a device that lets you transmit information instantly. Even if you don't use it for actual schools (because that would interefere with teaching jobs), can you imagine how much time it would save on training people?
>headset instead of a helmet
Well, it's smaller at least.
I feel like the leopard skin everything would be pretty tacky.
>"You won't kill me!"
Dude, you were around in the old days. You KNOW that most of Luke's old enemies didn't live long.
This shit isn't nearly as bad as Cage MAX, but it's still pretty bad.
Last issue for today, Anons!
>>87419342
I'm actually going to finish the entire thing with Cage MAX and Cage Noir.
But god damn, everything I read from the MAX line was shit.
Granted, I never read Punisher or Fury, so maybe they're the exceptions to the rule.
I bet that last part is supposed to SOUND deep... but some people are just shitheads.
>"My style won't help anybody here. Even I can see that."
God help us all, we've got Luke Cage improvising.
Oh god, please tell me that's a metaphor, and you don't really call your house "the catbox".
Aw shit, Luke Cage is pulling a Darkseid.
God damn it, the bad guy has a Gentrification plan AGAIN? Is it really that common, or have I just been reading shitty books?
Suddenly Spidey's fruit pie senses are tingling from miles away.
oh no, the politician who's been randomly inserted in the story in every other issue is the secret villain all along, who could've seen that coming
I really hope this is the same leather jacket from the 90's series. You know, the one that is just as unbreakable as his skin?
And his co-driver IMMEDIATELY shit his pants at what he just saw.
>>87418052
Okay, no. That's not Luke Cage on the cover. That's clearly gotta be Hellboy. I mean look, the armband's part of the fist and his malformed bicep is the baggy coat. Maybe not this specific image, but...
>>87419383
Even Destroyer?
Nope, not that coat. Dammit, nobody remember that one.
>Luke Cage tosses a damn car with barely any effort
Well, I guess Luke has a new truck for the family now, also free drugs.
Interesting plan..
>>87419715
Okay, here's what I've read
I've read Alias, Deadpool MAX, and Cage MAX. Do I just have shit luck?
Well, it looks like it worked itself out in the end,
Spidey, have you just been hiding outside their window waiting for a change to make a joke?
Those fish are going to get the high of their fucking lives.
See you guys next time, when we go BACK to Bendis, with the second New Avengers series!
>>87419842
Apparently, those are easily among the worst titles the MAX line has to offer, along with Phoenix. I personally recommend The Punisher (by Ennis, Aaron's volume is called PunisherMAX and is not very good), Born, Fury MAX, and Howard the Duck. Also Destroyer if you're up for dumb action and gore.
>>87420126
Wow, so I really was just stupidly unlucky.
>>87419342
I don't hate it
>>87419383
Noir was really good
>>87419549
Gentrification is a bad thing for many poor people anon. Luke is a hero to the working class.
