From the very first ep the entire fucking line of air benders was permanently broken.

They could SHOULD have had the children born in those air temples gaining air powers at the end of the first goddamned series.

BUT Bryke was too goddamned afraid of tying up loose ends so they just left that stupid bit of retardation hanging so they could force nickelodeon to give them another season.

Repopulating the airbenders is only really necessary he have a single airbending descendant to keep the airbending line physically alive so an Avatar can be born of it.
Now it's totally unnecessary since the airbending got restarted.

He could've, but it would've been incredibly slow going. The show never makes a big to do about exactly how bending was passed around genetically, but Figure Aang and Katara had three kids, one inherited each of the parents' powers but their first kid didn't inherit any bending at all until Korra blew up the spirit world. This implies Bumi always had some sort of recessive bending power, and that maybe if he'd had kids they could've become benders.

Conversely, all of Tenzin's kids (other than the baby) inherit air bending even though their mother had no (apparent) bending ability at all. If Korra's writing hadn't been retarded, some time in season 3 when they decided Varrick was suddenly a scientist and engineer in addition to entrepreneur, he could've started doing experiments to determine how bending is passed down and maybe even developing a vaccine or something that enabled bending in everyone.

Instead we got bisexual Korra and Asami.
