>start reading one older comics a lot of people blow off because they're goofy
>immediately notice how the page composition is actually really fucking good on a lot of older comics, that they use more than just square panels, they use the lot of different visual tricks with perspective, and are generally a lot more compressed in terms of pacing in a way that makes each scene actually way more unique because it gets to the fucking point.
Specifically talking about judge dredd case files 1, the decompression makes binge reading so ucking enjoyable, a billion tories all told in a short way is radical.
Why are modern comics decompressed to shit and for the most part adhere to rectangular panels all the time? Why don't comic books feel like comic books anymore? Why is everyone making shitty tv pilot bait instead of some of the insane art trip out stuff jack kirby made?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the old stuff you're reading are comics that people still know about because they stood the test of time, whereas today you're reading the middle-ground stuff that no one will remember when they look back on this decade.
