If they didn't make an anime reference at the end, its just plagiarism.
I'm sick of people saying its a parody, or a tribute. The creators did nothing to indicate where they got the move from, or any reference to Naruto. They just stole it and hoped no-one would notice.

The entire show if filled with shit tons of references from other things. It doesn't have to openly say "REMEMBER WHERE THIS IS FROM".

Boondocks was too busy putting time and money into important parts of the show to waste time on fight scenes.

Naruto ripped off Cowboy Bebop. The Boondocks ripped off Naruto. The Boondocks is a ripoff of a ripoff.

All obvious. They straight-up presented the exact elements of each reference.

Unlike with this, where they just stole the choreography while referencing fucking nothing.
>>
It's funny because Naruto did both ripped scenes worse than the others. The two Naruto characters in OP gif are off-model in almost every frame and their faces turn into formless blobs frequently, as well as their limbs taking on strange, contorted shapes.

Boondocks is probably on a lower budget and animating on threes instead of twos. You notice their lipsync has always been garbage too. Their animators do know how to translate a kick or a punch, though, because usually their characters really look like they're putting their weight in it.

There's not a lack of skill, is what I'm saying. It's just that if you animate every three frames instead of every two, you can save a lot of money in the long run. A bunch of kids' shows also animate on threes for budget reasons.

>>

Jackie Chan.

Seriously. Watch The Big Brawl. They ripped the fights right out of that.
>>
>>87324397
He doesn't know what he's talking about. Animation runs at 24 FPS and animators will normally draw on twos, which means every other frame. Or in other words, a cartoon tends to run at 12 FPS. However, for fast movements like action scenes where there's a bunch going on, animators will animate on ones so they can fit everything in.

Boondocks does neither as far as I know. I'm pretty sure they're animating on threes, which means once every three frames or at 8 FPS. It is not really an industry standard because it looks noticeably choppy, but it's a way to save money in your animation budget and it works for Boondocks because they're pretty dialogue-reliant.

Western animation that uses rigs will often be smoother because animators can "tween" with a program that animates simple movements on ones. Automated tweening can lead to really bad animation, but for easy things it's fine and gets the cartoon running at 24 FPS more often.

>>
>>87324728
The knowledge doesn't come up that often on /co/. People don't usually ask technical questions like, "Why is this at lower FPS?" They're more caught up in the drama of the script - which is the whole point. When you notice the seams the immersion is shattered, after all.

Boondocks does a lot of tricks to save money. Another thing to look for while watching the show is close-ups. That show does close-ups all the time. They take more skill because people recognize when something is off about a face, so you have to put a good guy on it, but they make it so there's so much less to animate. Guran Lagan did a whole episode that was just an obnoxious number of facial close-ups and that's because it was their "fuck we're out of money" episode.

>>87324946
Animating a scene takes a lot of work, and a part of that is knowing your timing. To get the timing down for normal movements you can set a stop watch and do that thing in front of a mirror. But for a fight, what are you going to do? Have one of the interns hit you then throw you over their shoulder?

Nah. You'll watch a kung fu movie and then basically animate what you saw. It's not weird or unethical to see an animated scene that looks like someone else's scene, especially when you find out that 'x' copied 'y', 'y' copied 'z', and 'z' was watching a movie.

I guess your other option would be to hire Jackie Chan and mocap an original choreographed fight, but what cartoon can splurge like that?

If it did, it's a third hand plagiarism, if not a fourth hand. Naruto took choreography from Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Cowboy Bebop. Bebop presumable also took it from somewhere.

And no, it's not a "tribute", it's a simple issue of not having money for original choreography and wanting your cartoon to have some good looking fight scenes.
>>
>>87325898

no one says this
>>
>>87325480

That's irrelevant. Many musical parodies for example copy the same beat and melody with lyrics unrelated to the original song. As long as it is meant for comedy (which The Boondocks is labeled as) then it is not plagiarism.)
>>
>>87325914
Are you an idiot? What does being from 10 years ago have to do with animation quality? There haven't been a bunch of amazing new animation techniques in the last decade that have just now allowed for fluid animation. Also animation in atla wasnt great but it excelled in a lot of other areas.

It absolutely is relevant if you're calling it a parody of Naruto dumbfuck. In songs its clear where the parody comes from and what the original was. Theres no practical way to trace fight choreography used here back to a short scene in Naruto.

You'd be surprised how obvious it isn't, some people just found out the booty warrior existed when he got released from prison a few years ago. In both cases they use something nearly identical except when it comes to fighting people pretty much always say something was stolen regardless of circumstance.

Slightly off topic, but how did neither of them dodge that punch? They telegraphed it so much and they had at least a couple seconds to dodge.
>>
>>87327003
That's because copyin choreography is basically tracing. People could still go and watch booty warrior videos later know that the boondocks was referencing real life. But if somebody started watching Naruto there's almost no chance they'd ever know.
