I don't think you understand how it works. That was never an option, especially from two unknown studios. Universal funded them both and they made a game. Whatever they made was property of Universal no matter what. They could try to make the games on their own, but with what funding?

The original skylander toyline wasn't designed with Spyro in mind, the dragon was shoehorned when the project was fairly advanced and due to the nature of the franchise Spyro was never given too much focus with this cartoon being the exception.
Just don't think of Skylanders as a spin off of Spyro and that way things will seem more fitting

I remember seeing concept art for Skylanders Elora but I don't think she was ever made into an actual toy.

In defense of Crash, Twinsanity was the shit. I wish we'd get a series and whole lore based off of that one game. Actually, I'd hope for a finished version one day, considering all that was cut off. Crash of Titans and Mind Over Mutant were good too, their only crime was how different they were compared to earlier and original representations of the characters.

Originally the game was supposed to be a mature Spyro game with blood and gore and shit.

After that bombed they turned it into a more open ended platformer, but Spyro has always looked like that as far back in development as we've been able to see. Right before they used the figure they used Legend of Spyro Spyro as a placeholder image.

There was a red dragon in a beta test version but it's solid colored and was basically just a test dummy for Spyro who would essentially be the main character of the first game.

This whole show actually completely rewrites the mythology from the games so I dunno what is supposed to be the canon anymore.

The video games (and the comics based on them) heavily imply that Spyro in Skylanders was brought in from an alternate universe. He's got vague memories of things happening before coming to Skylands, and Cynder/Hex both have parts of Malefor (the villain from the Legend of Spyro series) in their history. Malefor shows up in the comics and taunts Spyro I think because he remembers him.

This show could have served as a prequel (with the Core of Light and stuff not being destroyed/Eon not going ghost) but they fucked it up with Spyro being born in Skylands, and stuff like the Trap Team/Giants being part of the universe already. The games usually just go "oh and there's also this that we have known about but not many others did" but it didn't already exist basically.

I know this is gonna sound incredibly autistic, but I just need to ask it:

Does Anyone think the Skylanders games could get as big as a community as say, Smash Bros or Overwatch if it had online play? Both Overwatch and Skylanders are made under the same company -- Activision Blizzard -- and many characters have moves and/or potential suitable for competitive play. E.g. The skylander Sprocket has a lot of moves in common with Torbjorn, being focused on field control through turrets.
