Red pill me. Where do I start? Whats worth reading?

I've never heard of them until rebirth
>>
Superman and Legion of Superheroes by Johns is where I started, it was a good introduction. Legion of 3 Worlds is the next story after that and you can read it then, but make sure you also read it again after you finish backreading because it's basically continuity porn.

Beyond that you can just kind of start at the beginning of any run. There are a couple of different eras of course, but most of it is a good read (only poor runs I'd really say are 5 Years Later by the Beirbaums, mid/late 00s Shooter, and the last arc or so of the new 52 stuff). I basically marathoned through and I don't really regret it.
>>
All of it is good. It's wild like that. Except leave Volume 4 when Giffen does
>>
>>87210232
I should probably add that the Levitz/Giffen stuff is probably the most noteworthy. I'd recommend starting around Bates though if you're going to hit that bronze age stuff.

>>
>>87210464
That version of the Legion (colloquially referred to as the Reboot Legion) was a reboot that started with Zero Hour, but you can start there then read the other DnA stuff (in order I think it's Legion Lost and Legion Worlds then The Legion). Kind of a big tonal shift there actually between it and the stuff that came before in the Reboot. I think that arc and Legion Lost are really good but Legion Worlds and The Legion are kind of a step down (neither is bad but just kind of "ok"). Not a bad place to start though some of the characters only exist in that Reboot Legion and not the other versions.

>>

Because they were introduced in Superman comics focusin on when he was a boy.

Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, and Saturn Girl came back from the future to meet Superman when he was their age. Superman paved the way for people from different planets working together and using their unique abilities for the betterment of all.

They have an adventure with the Superboy, and return to their distant future. On occasion they come back and bring young Clark to the future to have adventures with the Legion and make him a member.

They even help a friend of Clark's, the Daxamite Garr Land who Clark had to trap in the Phantom Zone to prevent lead poisoning from killing him. Clark adopts him into his extended family and grants him the name Mon El. Healed by the Legion in the Future, Garr Land goes by the name Valor and Joins the Legion to lead by example against his own species's xenophobia.

The Legion's stories are Scifi tales set in the distant future. With an expansive cast of optimistic young heroes ready to work together and show the universe that everyone is better together.

Long Live the Legion!

Just like any superhero. I haven't read much of the Legion like the rest of /co/ but they're solid characters. You could read Superman Secret Origin for a nice little introduction to them, or Superman and the Legion of Superheroes for a story where many of them are a focus.

>>
>>87212453
Nope.
>>
>>87212453
The New 52 ongoing is a direct continuation of the pre-Flashpoint stuff. If you want to do backreading then the last Adventure Comics arc that introduces the new kids would be the place to go. But ultimately it doesn't really do much story-wise and the last arc was pretty bad so I don't know if I'd recommend it beyond just being curious as to how their last ongoing went.

New 52 Legion Lost was bad because the writer left early on and it got pulled into crossovers with Teen Titans and shit. The old Legion Lost is good though.

>Why is Imra so perfect?
Because she's imperfect. Compassionate, yet kinda creepy at times, she's the team mom who does her best to keep everyone together, sometimes through manipulation. Ruthlessly pragmatic, she abhors abusing her powers, but she'll do what it takes to get the job done. Hell, the very first story that's actually about her demonstrates this well, and just kinda caught on.

Moral complexity can make for an enjoyable character.

Yeah, it's Saturn Girl, one of the Founders. She appeared in the Rebirth #1 special, apparently looking for Superman. That little cameo in the OP is the first tie she's appeared since. We don't know what's going on, but Johns seems to be hinting that the Legion are important to the overall story of Rebirth somehow.

Well, yeah. It was the 90s after all. Ironically though, 90s Legion was relatively grounded, and often known as "Archie Legion". Personally, I think that's mostly due to Jeff Moy's art actually making the characters look like, y'know, teenagers.

Presumably to foster interest. If the Legion really is important to whatever's going on with Dr. Manhattan, expect Imra and friends to start showing up in various books they'd otherwise have fuck all to do with.
>>
>>87218431
I think it was just a cameo appearance and that since Batman is part of the League, being an ally of Superman, he could recognize the symbol (if it wasn't Nu52 era).

The only odd thing about is that every other inmate is a criminal yet she hasn't done anything wrong, they just believe she's crazy, right?
>>
>>87217811
Idk if it's actually canon or if I've just decided that it is but I think that they once stated that it's a traditional thing. Heroes from the heroic era, i.e. current DC, had those kinds of names so they do too (same with the spandex etc.). Except they are looking at the heroic era through the lense of 1000 years of history so it's kind of an abridged version of it all.

My gal Imra Ardeen AKA Saturn Girl.

Mysa, Brainy, Nura and Dawnstar come close though.

I like how they are clearly trying to hide Cos' awful uniform behind other Legionnaires in this spread.

>we will have a live action LoSH in Supergirl

>>87228790
You're aware that the same happens in her comics.
>>
>>87228825
What does being aware matter? The CW shows are shit and any live action LoSH would be connected and likely also shit so I don't want it.

Nice company war, bro.
>>
>>87228875
I literally have no idea what you're talking about now. We are only talking about one company here, to be fair Berlanti is the issue rather than the network though. He just doesn't get superheroes but thinks throwing in name drops to distract people from that will work.

I will never understand why Tenzil is considered "lame". He can literally eat ANYTHING. Anything. This is considered a lame power.

Like even casuals can't be that stupid.
>>
>>87217631
so just read this in order?
>>
>>87230371
That's the thing. Nobody actually considers Matter Eater Lad lame, they just consider him weird. It's a power that would sound lame because it's just doing something anybody can do extra, but it's really powerful and easy to make versatile. So he gets to show off how strong he is and prove himself, but never was in any real danger of irrelevance.

>Opinions on Legion of the Damned run?
It's damn good. But really intense and dark, same goes for Legion Lost.
Especially if you're used to the earlier silver age or "Archie"Legion runs.
