I don't really know why. I think part of it was in early seasons everyone assumed Asami would become a villain later, and some fanart got made at the time that he latched onto. Or he might just like that she's an industrialist and project other personality traits onto her, or he just likes the design.

Barbara Blight's a woman who embodies the mad scientist role but is enough of a sociopath to market it so the masses lap up whatever corner cutting mutagenic labor saving lab mess she brewed up.

It's usually not even for the advancement of a given field of research. Blight's inventions already get results enough to license and publish but greed over rides any sort of need for peer review.

Also the burns aren't even that bad and she likely has the tech skills to have MAL do the surgery.

Well if I recall correctly Duke and the rat guy wanted to make the world more hospitable for their own kind and Blight was a mad scientist who liked having power over nature. It was really just Plunder, Greedly, and that exterminator guy who didn't have a well thought out motivation beyond "make more money" (which never really made a lot of sense to begin with, especially with Greedly; since his gimmick was rampant consumption of resources, since logically a business would make more money by being more efficient with resources, at least Plunder was in specific lines of business that had to damage the environment to work. Also, did they ever finally decide whether Greedly was just a fat man with piggish features, or an actual pig-man?).
