Where does he rank in terms of popularity?

Keeping it strictly to Marvel. He's obviously not on Spidey's level (nobody in the company is), but would you say he's above, equal to, or below Iron Man, Cap, the X-Men, etc?
>>
>>87182348
He is above everyone in marvel aside from spiderman.

He is the only Marvel character that can be considered A-lister. Movies had failed to change the pop culture

Bruce Banner/Hulk is my favorite Marvel character.

I think he's above X-Men and about on the same level as Iron Man and Cap.

I loved what Ang Lee tried to do with the Hulk as well.
>>
High in pop culture relevancy and low by comic reading manchildren who cannot appreciate Hulk smash unless there's adequate snarking and shallow introspection
>>
>>87182459
>I think he's above X-Men and about on the same level as Iron Man and Cap.

No one cares about iron man or cap in real life, normies forget about them as soon as they leave the theater.

The hulk series is as big as the wonder woman series.
>>
>>87182400
I'd put Wolverine up there as a challenger, but otherwise I agree with you.
>>
>>87182553
>>87182553

To be fair Hulk isnt that interesting in comic form.
>>
>>87182710
Neither is cyclops, and /co/ can't stop sucking him off.
>>
People like the idea of Hulk, no one has read Hulk's early comics or cares about his lore.
>>
>>87182756
But we are not talking of /co/ of even casuals, we are talking about normies. And Hulk's gimmick makes him really well known.

To be fair you're wrong unless you're talking about the last twelve years since there's been anything interesting in comics form and around thirty to thirty five years since Hulk has been consistently great
>>
>>87182348
He's right below Spider-Man, alongside Wolverine.
>>
>>87182348
Pretty high up. He had a TV show and he's pretty mainstream. Hulk being a big shirtless dude that smashes things is more popular than most 95% of Marvel.
>>
>>87182568
>The hulk series is as big as the wonder woman series.

That's a good thing, right? I don't pay attention to Wonder Woman.
>>
>>87182348
I'd say he was at least second to Spider-Man in terms of popularity out of all the Marvel characters. I don't know how true that is today, but I know Quesada talked a bit about the Spider-Man/Iron Man/Hulk animated short that Tim Miller worked on:

http://joequesada.tumblr.com/post/139315551573/deadpool-congrats-to-fox-and-everyone-involved

>In early 2007 Marvel assigned a small group of us to create what would eventually be called Iron Man Advertorials: Three animated shorts with a simple clean story that would introduce Iron Man to younger viewers using our two most recognizable characters at the time as bait.

It seems Hulk was still their second most recognizable character, though on the other hand I can't help but wonder if the Marvel/Fox conflict had anything to do with not using Wolverine.
>>
>>87182348
10-20 years ago he would have been on Spidey's level, and even now he's probably a little bit higher than everyone else who has been in a movie recently. Years of cartoons, video games and foam hand toys tend to keep you in the public eye in one way or another.
>>
>>87182988
Both shows were popular during their time so they raised public awareness of the characters. (In fact the Hulk TV show boosted sales on Mego's Hulk toy to the point where he was one of he top four selling superheroes for them) The other thing is that even though the shows lasted for four or five seasons they were still being shown in syndication during the 80's so that's even more awareness. Sort of like how people were aware of Flintstones or Looney Tunes because those cartoons used to air on TV constantly up until the late 90's or 00's.

This is why i never laugh at parodies of nerds in show's like the simpsons. because actual nerds are so easily upset by shit like this that you can't parody them.

Go back to /tv/ or something.

He's popular as a character, not so much his actual comics.

Well, judging from hos /co/ lost it's shit when Hawkeye killed him, I'd say pretty high.
>>
>>87189427
I think /co/ is the only board on 4chan I visit populated by people that I probably wouldn't even call geeks, in contrast to something like /a/ where everyone's rightfully hostile to noobs. They're normies who found out that this site, the home base of the mythical hacker group Anonymous, existed from CNN or something, and who were largely drawn in by geek chic and the MCU. Normalfags getting offended over being called normalfags. Jesus Christ; just nuke this board already.

He's one of Marvel's best known characters, but he's not one of their more popular comic characters.

His book has often been written by writers who weren't considered A-listers at the company in terms of popularity or sales (not that this is a bad thing, that gave us Peter David on the title for a zillion years). He's had some popular runs but he's in there with Wonder Woman as a character whose fame is greater than their comics popularity.

The TV show probably had the ideal format for Hulk in some ways. Trying to do him in a more serialized story you run out of things to do except have him fight a lot of monsters, and his supporting cast isn't big because he spends so much of his time on the run.

the xmen are still above Cap, Thor and the Avengers tho, especially wolverine. I would say they are just below Iron Man in terms of recognition
