You could still work it as the marriage being designed to align an outside power with the Skrull remnants and attempt to claim some political influence with Kree factions. The fact that he won't be accepted by all and even challenged only helps the underlying political plotlines. Teddy not being some shrewd, calculating chessmaster works in this context as it's both a liability, everyone's been playing intrigue far better and for far longer than he has, and to his benefit, as his lack of subtlety can monkeywrench various plots and schemes.

Some of the Golden Age characters should be used to diversify Marvel's output.

The original Marvel Comics mag had a really strong lineup. The android Human Torch had a weird vibe, Namor had this interesting anti-villain setup, Electro worked as a sort of composite superteam/mecha book, Ka-Zar filled a Tarzan knockoff niche, and there were an assortment of Western and Detective stories. Oh, and Angel, but he sucked.

I'd love a revival of that wide range of ideas, even if not actually starring Phantom Raider and Ferret and the like.
