It does the cliche, unimaginative thing, unfortunately.

The art style in the time travel section makes up for it, though.
>>

Actually, Doctor Who came out after Peabody. The first episode of Doctor Who aired in 1963 while the first segment of Peabody's Improbable History aired as part of the first episode of Rocky and his Friends in 1959.
>>
>>87169263
That's strange.
So when the original idea was just time travel as a semi educational history lesson before all the sci-fi was added, you could just summarize the pitch as "Mr. Peabody but live-action?"
>>
so Is the blonde waifu from the movie in here?

Was Sherman explicitly said to be Peabody's son in the original series, or did the movie come up with that?

She's mentioned briefly, but in one of those awkward parent child conversations where you can't get the kid to really talk about anything.
>>
>>87169527
In the original cartoon Sherman was his pet boy. It's why he insists he call him Mr. Peabody despite legally adopting him.

The movie came up with the father-son relationship.
>>
>>87169527
Yes, in the first episode he formally adopts Sherman from an orphanage.
Although he treats it more like he adopted a pet than a son.
>>
>>87169527
IIRC, he "adopted" Sherman (who had been living in a box), but other than that they really didn't get into the son-father thing because it wasn't that kind of show.

Future Peabody was hilarious.
>>
>>87179504
I think he's technically the Past Peabody.
He was the Peabody that the show host Peabody was telling a story about before he decided to travel into the story and break time.
>>
>>87179483
Why is he so perfect?
>>
>>87178209
Don't listen to the others. There is plenty of gross out humor in the first season (especially in the first seven episodes) with Sherman's Pet being a notable offender. By the second season however, the grossout is considerably toned down with a few exceptions (John Harrington's segment being one of them). Also as I said in >>87154855, the art style looks nice enough that it looks nowhere near as bad as written descriptions will make it out to be.

The bigger problem with the show though is the hit/miss joke ratio. While the most of the jokes that do hit do so really hard, they make only a minority of the jokes of the series in my opinion. The rest of the jokes can range from being barley not good enough (just needs a tweak or two to work) to downright confusing to, in a few instances, downright cringe inducing. Personally, I believe the show is at its best and funniest when it goes full on meta with its formula.

Often, the failures of the jokes are tied to the overall problem of the show being too cliche and formulaic (even more so than The Loud House in some ways). Almost all the general jokes and tropes used in the show have been done to death with other animated comedies and it almost never brings its own twist to center stage. The show is at its best when it subverts expectations but problem is, it doesn't do so enough to warrant a watch through the whole series unless you're a hardcore fan of the franchise or if you love the art of the show.
>>
>>87149947
Why the fuck does this show only have a 1 STAR RATING?
>>
>>87181428
Red stars are predictive; they don't show you an average of ratings, they show you what it thinks you would rate it.
>>
>>87177302

Why did I think they were finally going to subvert this cliche?

I was naive to think that just because Rescue Bots (another DHX production) finally did the subversion and Max Charles did a suprisingly good Peabody-esque/Victorian English accent during one Harvey Beaks episode (Steamgate) that they were going to be yet another exception to the trope.
