I do believe that it is Laura's tragedy and lack of proper upbringing that gives the writers the advantage for character development. I loved what Marjorie Liu did to her. Having her encounter Sue, Peter, Jubes and be under Gambit's mentorship.

I was following some of the outrage on twitter from the people who originally brought it up, and while I disagree with their reasoning, I'm not upset about the variants being changed. Maybe it is a better idea not to use pin up artists to draw teenaged girls (although the pose on the cover definitely wasn't a pin up pose)

That being said, I felt like the Riri variants were a silly hill to die on, they weren't provocative at all and there are 15 year old black girls who look like that. They're probably track or basketball players, but they do exist. There are many more legitimate issues to bring up about Riri than a damned variant cover. And all of them start and end with Bendis.

There was also the critique that she was colored in a lighter tone than originally depicted, and while I agree that could possibly be troubling, there really aren't enough examples to raise a fuss about it. Two different artists, two different colorists.
