So what I've never really been able to get is why Han and Leia wound up naming him after a guy whom Leia never met, and Han's entire relationship consisted on mocking his space wizard religion.

So is Donnie Yen a Jedi who escaped the purge or is he just another random asshole with the force.

Because i'm pretty angry about how Disney treats the prequels.

Imagine a world where the prequels were more loved. All these movies would be better.
TFA would have had Coruscant, and Luke training a new order, Leia being a Jedi etc...

If they sucked off the PT as much as the OT the movies would be entirely better films.

Neither. He's a blind dude who is apparently not force sensitive, but believes in the Force and its philosophy.

But we know that even if a person isn't has typically force sensitive like a Jedi, you can still call upon it unconsciously when you are skilled in what you do. That's probably what Donnie Yen's character is, he'll probably have an awakening moment to explain his magic stick actions. How else could he fire BIG GUN? >>86931760

>So is Donnie Yen a Jedi who escaped the purge or is he just another random asshole with the force.

No. He's just a blind guy who idolizes Jedi Knights. He's not even force sensitive.

He's a Jediboo, more or less.

I honestly hope not, I'm kinda excited at the prospect of a Star Wars movie where the plot isn't entirely advanced by space wizards.

Also, I hope they kept the bacta scene.

He's neither a Jedi, nor even Force sensitive. He's just deeply religious and believes in the Force. Basically, his character is a space shaolin.

Yes, but they were not used in leiu of Jedi stuff.

Face it if the prequels were popular Donnie Yen would be a purge survivor.
But Disney has to follow the money.
>>
>>86931973
Gareth Edwards specially stated from the beginning that this movie isn't about space wizards coming to save anyone. This has nothing to to with any Jedi/Sith whatsoever. We'll probably see little of Vader in action too.
>>
>>86931870
>Think Vaders murdering him?

Yep. I seem to recall reading an interview (probably with Edwards) months ago that part of Krennic's motivation is that he's afraid of Vader showing up. That bit is probably at the end of the movie after everything went down and just before Vader leaves to where the Death Star's plans were transmitted. Krennic gonna get that he's probably been trying to avoid the whole movie.

Disney knows where the money is anon. They're not avoiding anything. If an individual creator wants to avoid the prequels (cough-JJ-cough) then they can, but otherwise, there is no rules banning content from the prequels.

>>86931659
looks boring and there are too many characters with accents. I'm not going to be able to understand what anyone is saying
>>
>>86931997
Just thinking out loud here, but my broader point is that if the PT was as loved as the OT, we'd get spin off movies about the time in between Episode 1 and 2 with Obi and Ani, or the time before Episode 1 with Qui-Gon and Dooku.

the prequels have so many more stories that could be told around them than the OT. The OT was small scale and meh outside of when Luke and Yoda or Luke and Vader or Luke and Ben were in the same room. Everything else is fun, but there's no meat to it. The prequels are 90% meat. Maybe the OT is more technically competent, but the prequels are more interesting.

We are getting an upcoming comic issue focused on Yoda before Episode 1.

Not saying I wouldn't like a movie, but that content is already in the pipeline.
>>

Ewoks were a good concept, but left a bad taste in peoples mouths because they seemed too cute to be able to defeat the Empire, rendering the Empire a joke.

Jar Jar was just a comic relief character for kids.

Ahsoka is one of the strongest and best developed characters in the franchise.

My point is Disney keeps making the same movie because they follow the money.

The one better thing about the post ROTJ EU is that when the prequels came out, they embraced it big time.
The post ROTJ world felt imtamitaly connected to the prequels, from worlds to characters.

Disney will just keep making OT nostalgia grabs forever.

nice headcanon bruh

>an ENTIRE LEGION of my BEST TROOPS awaits them

>>
I can't believe this is going to be so much better than fucking Kyle Katarn's version of events.

I also like how Jyn has turned from a catty ssstrong rebel girl into a girl trying to save her father. These trailers have been good at developing her character into one that matters both to herself and others
>>
>>86932173
I think it's the initial attack that throws people off. Seeing these trained soldiers overwhelmed by teddy bears made the Empire look like a joke, and that mentality hasn't ever really changed since. The initial idea of Wookiee's would have probably gone over better with people. Ironically when George finally realized that in RotS, the Wookiee's got rekt.

>>86932192
>But she doesn't FIT in the franchise.
How?

>TCW as a whole just doesn't fit.
It fits perfectly fine.

Obi-Was was surprised because Greivous usually waits until he needs the upper hand to use all of his arms. Obi-Wan somehow not knowing about Greivous having 4 arms would make less sense.
>>
>>86932149
I don't disagree with your point but I admit I did miss it for a moment , but unfortunately I guess the best thing we can hope for is the other media works in this unified canon to foster that interconnectivity in place of the films.

Um.. yes she does. Shit, I remember a time when the OT was all the Star Wars we had (er, I had), and Ahsoka is just as significant a character to me as Luke or Han. She very much fits in the franchise. Especially with the kind of female characters that George likes.

Which is appropriate, since he and Dave created her.

130+ episodes of the show changes that.

Out of universe reason is that she was created during the production of ROTS.

In universe, there's no reason to mention her at all. She left the order, and the events of that movie leave the characters with different things to focus on then giving a throwaway line.
>>
>>86932208
>I can't believe this is going to be so much better than fucking Kyle Katarn's version of events.

Isn't Kyle a liar and con-man in-universe though?
>>
>>86932268
If that's legitimately your reason, then you are simply wrong. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't an afterthought.

Not only did TCW go out of their way to explain why Ahsoka wasn't mentioned in Episode 3, but Lucas even started coming up with the TCW and Ahsoka (Ashla at the time), months before Revenge of the Sith was even finished, so Anakin having an apprentice was always on his mind.

If Lucas didn't think mentioning Anakin's apprentice was necessary for the movie, then that's that. But it doesn't mean he didn't believed Anakin ever had one, because he clearly did.

In an interview, Lucas's original understanding of the situation was that Ahsoka would die before the movie took place, hence it being a touchy subject that wouldn't be brought up in the movie. Filoni convinced him that they could keep her alive and make it work.
>>
>>86932266

If you think about it, Vader simply never has a reason to move exceptionally fast in the OT. Even during the fights, he is always in control (until, you know, Luke's freak out), and he moves slow and imposingly.

The misconception for a long time was that he simply couldn't move fast, but thankfully the newer Canon books and movies are ending that myth.

>>86932371

If someone likes the Fetts being Mandos, let them.
If someone likes Sabine being a Mando more, let them.

You get the point, just don't be autists about it like the dude on deviantart over Boba. I mean shit everyone has their opinions and likes/dislikes. Hell I like the prequels, I realize they aren't without their flaws very much like the OT, but I still like them quite a lot. Same goes a lot of stuff, whether it be current canon or Legends.

In the end we all love Star Wars, some more than others, some less than others. Lets just have fun and enjoy the myriad of things we've been given over the decades and just enjoy ourselves.
>>
>>86932442
And the fact remains that SW has expanded into other mediums. The cartoons are the second largest medium of Star Wars content, you may not like them, but you can't dismiss them when they give you the opportunity for the stories you want to see.

Yeah, RotJ is one of the more strange star wars films.

It's got the most fairy tale elements. The message of the film is basically about taking risks involving getting captured and then hoping things turn out okay.

Jabba's palace is like a double-blind rescue of Han, and then Luke tries the same thing with Vader and the Emperor. And it works!

Leia, Han, and Lando remain static characters for most of the film, though Leia gets a spiritual freedom with the war "over" and her love for Han. Lucas was definitely exhausted with the franchise at this point.

But there's also my favorite scene of all time in star wars: Luke confronting Vader on the balcony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en8bh60K7m8

As terrible as Mark's accident was, I feel its results did well to sell the idea of an a mature and wisened Luke. There's no way he could have sold this scene with the prettyboy babyface he had in ANH. It also shows in TESB, where he looks and feels more alert and wary of things around him.

The suit has been notorious for how hard it was to move in. I think the only one that had actual problems with it not fitting was Hayden, which they played off that he was still getting used to the suit and it was clunky.

The original suit though that was a notoriously clunky and hard to move mess. Where they had to actually bring in some other people so they could do the fight scenes just because it was so clunky.

They got someone else (Bob Anderson) for fight scenes because Prowse had no sword training and was just a big guy.

The Vader suit was not clunky. Storm trooper suits were clunky. Dengar was clunky, 3PO was clunky. Vader was not clunky. Restrictive for it's own reasons, maybe. But not clunky.

This shot is becoming one of my favorites in all of Star Wars.

The explosion and colors seem somehow incredibly other-worldly, and yet still grounded and fitting for this story. Gorgeous.

And some (probably) unintentional poetry, but this is very reminiscent of the Second Battle of Geonosis in TCW, where they blow up the droid factory.

>Kylo mentioned a "clone army".
And that was it, just one line. They literally never brought it up again or elaborated on it. It felt forced.
You know it's wasn't added in right when the majority of TFA fans actually believe that the stormtroopers including Finn are actually clones.
I'm not even kidding.
Since Kylo Ren used that line as an insult, I'm starting to think JJ added that line in just to take the piss out of the clones being CGI since he bragged about using real stormtroopers before the film's release.

You know what, I suspected as much too. He was constantly declaring how the Stormtroopers were real actors and shit in BTS stuff.

Didn't change anything though, as far as I can tell, the kids still don't give a shit about Stormtroopers.

TCW has permanently solidified Clone Troopers as the cool ones.
>>
>>86934230
It was definitely a jab at the PT by JJ. It was basically like "Well if you don't like it, why don't we go back to Clones, bet you won't like it even more then, butthurt faggot."

That was basically what it boiled down. Which is funny because The Clone Wars were mentioned in RotJ.

I don't think so.
The Empire and its citizens have been pretty clear about no-one liking clones, particularly not ones from the GAR. Clones were effectively disowned and sent into mining camps to die after the War.
It seems perfectly in line with the New Order being an Imperial offshoot.

It's kind of funny that FO stormtroopers are meant to be superior to the recruited stormtroopers from the OT era, and meant to be on par with the clontroopers according to Daddy Hux because they were raised to be soldiers from birth.

And yet they're the most incompetent ones yet.

Oh yeah, sure, me too. Loved playing as them in Battlefront, before Episode 3 even came out. But TCW really defined the Clones and what they can do, and gave them personality that will likely never be matched. Not even Rebels is developing Rebel soldiers in the same way as the Clones. And yes I understand why. I just think the Clones in TCW are above and beyond what we're ever really going to get again. While the Clones were cool pre-TCW, the show really made them beloved to children and adult viewers alike. No other faction in Star Wars has had that.

They had about the same success rate as they did in ANH- they're clearly the superior fighting force at the beginning (Tantive IV/Jakku village) but stop being effective later on.

The one thing the ANH troopers have over the TFA troopers is that the heroes escape from the Death Star because they were allowed- in TFA, they don't have that excuse.

Well we know Saw doesn't actually take part in the theft of the plans which means that it would be very likely that he survived. Saw is a really huge character who has already had around 5 episodes of a tv show made about him and now we know that he'll die in an upcoming movie because they showed his death in a trailer. This is like if the trailer for Episode 8 showed Finn getting slashed in 2 by Kylo and they excused it with "Well did you expect everyone to survive the second movie in a trilogy? This stuff happens all the time!"

We know from the novel Catalyst that Jyn's father was an energy specialist. He was likely the one who figured out how to use kyber crystals for the laser. I wouldn't be surprised if the Death Star was powered by kyber crystals too since we know that the First Order ships and technology use kyber crystals everywhere. It would make for a nice little easter egg in some reference book if they said that his research helped the First Order create all their new ships and blasters.

Who knows, sounds interesting though.

Godzilla is one of the best-looking movies of the past few years, and Monsters was no slouch either.

I loved Godzilla while fully admitting the script and dialogue were pretty bad. it was practically a silent film at points, it was a pure atmospheric experience and the fact that everyone talked like robots didn't bother me while watching it because the rest of it was so damn good. And the character writing for Monsters was downright terrible, but again I enjoyed it as an experience.

Honestly, this might be one of the only times hiring someone for reshoots made me happier. Edwards has a clear issue with character writing, so getting a heavy-hitter in like Gilroy to patch that up is a smart choice, if anyone can add some humanity to the proceedings without cutting the films balls off its the writer of the Bourne movies and Michael Clayton.

Sometimes I wonder if posts like that are just false flagging. Here on 4chan where everyone is conveniently anonymous, nobody gives a shit. Ahsoka is a fan favorite character here, and across the entire fanbase. Female leads are common in sci fi media.

So I sincerely struggle to believe that, conveniently on the biggest forum site on the internet, there are stereotypically sexist people raving like lunatics.

Or maybe Reddit is just worse than I thought

So the cast of Rogue One is probably going to die, right?

I mean, the death star plans had to be transmitted to Leia's ship in desperation while she was on a completely unrelated mission and the very act blew her cover and finally pushed the emperor to dissolve the senate.

Is there any hard evidence for Yen's character not being force sensitive? Of course he could be just that good, but I really don't see the Jedi order having a 100% success rate for finding potential Jedi.

Also, anyone else find his new stick suspiciously lightsaber looking?

Obviously he always planned to do it. But I'm pretty sure the reason given to the public was the discovery of treasonous senators.

I feel like I share this fanbase with literal retards. The Ewoks NEVER beat the Imperials back. What happened is the Stormtroopers sprung a trap but got ambushed in turn by numerically superior Ewoks. Sure, they scored a few casualties against Stormtroopers and walkers but you forget they got pushed back into the woods. The Pathfinders and Rangers took advantage of the situation and with Chewbacca and Han's help, they opened the shield bunker and completed their objectives. There was an entire scene dedicated to showing you how hopelessly fucked the Ewoks were.

Also, we've seen a handful of units in real life beat back entire divisions. Control of the environment is really important even in modern combat.

>>
>>86937792
A lot of people have always believed that for some stupid reason. I think it comes from just not paying attention- pan and scan versions of movies explicitly do cut out part of the image to fit it on a standard TV screen. I think they remember that one version cuts out the image and when they see the black bars they think "oh, this must be the version that cuts stuff out, because those bars are probably covering it up"

But like >>86937792 pointed out the pan and scan versions tell you at the beginning that they're chopping up the picture to fit it on your TV so people are just stupid.

Because they serve different purposes.

Naboo needs to be near the Outer Rim to make it an easy target for the Trade Federation to invade and for the current Chancellor to not really do anything about it.

Alderaan needs to be a core world so that it makes an effective demonstration.

But if it was Alderaan, then it would be more outrageous that the invasion occurs, making a stronger plot point. Besides relative location, the difference between the Core and the Outer Rim is not super relevent to the casual viewer, or even to most hardcore fans.

>Because Jakku needs to be more remote and worthless than Tatooine.
Your defense of Naboo was a lot stronger than this. If Jakku was so remote and worthless, then for what reason would the Empire's waterloo be fought above it? It already doesn't get much more remote and worthless than Tatooine anyway, so I'd buy it becoming an ISD graveyard as soon as I'd buy Jakku being one.

Don't act like the prequels are flawless masterpieces that everybody adored from day one. I still remember tons of prequel bashing (at least of the first two) before Plinkett came around.

>Why is film criticism such a fucking joke.

Brah, even back in the day Mark Hamill would be the first to tell you Luke was a whiny, archetypal character.

Han Solo was a cowboy and Chewie was his faithful pet dog.

Princess Leia played against type, arguably creating the "feisty aristocrat" though.

But TPM has script problems. It plays out like a clunky first draft. Lucas overdid all his emphasis on special effects with the pod race and Jar Jar at the expense of the story.

I've read the cobbled together pieces of Lucas's earlier drafts for "the star wars" and guess what, everything that could have gone wrong in 1975 did happen in 1998.

The absence of Marcia Lucas is particularly obvious.

There's no plebs here. We're on swco: we're all losers.

George did some second unit directing on Return of the Jedi in the early 80's. He didn't direct any films between then and TPM.

If the first draft of Star Wars had been extraordinary, that would mean George Lucas really was an alien. He had to work at it and revise it, and bounced ideas off of his wife, Marcia. She was his confidant and editor of the OT. He had limitations to work with.

With TPM he was on his own and given carte blanche by his sycophantic producers who saw nothing but dollar signs. And they were right.

TPM is not and Ed Wood B-movie, it is an imaginative but clunky Star Wars movie.
>>
>>86939969
Millennial standing by.

Not necessarily. I wore out my OT tapes before I even knew there would be a PT. Younger millennials are more likely to view the OT as "the boring old ones".

If you cunts wanna keep putting words in my mouth you might wanna use nicer words.

George had help making star wars. He is not a Randian ubermensch who carved them from stone with his bare hands. ESB, which has a glowing reputation, was absolutely written by George Lucas. But Kershner had the means to challenge George and ended up doing a better film.

I like the prequels. I like AotC more than TPM and RotS. I'm willing to have conversation. But you're trolling and being reactionary.

Should we talk about the bad parts of TFA? Will that sway you to being a bit more pleasant?
