I don't see it as a "retcon" so much as Marco naturally drifting away from those guys and toward Star. If they have a role in another episode, they're probably going to continue to be friendly with Marco and he won't be like "who r u people." More like an example of the crew realizing what works and what doesn't, but not saying the earlier stuff didn't happen.
