Speaking of italian authors: this is Franco "Bonvi" Bonvicini, famous for "Sturmtruppen" which was an anti-war satiric comic.
Before becoming a comic author in 1962 he was drafted for military conscription and the year later entered service as second lieutenant in a tank battalion, which was full of the worst scum conscripted because it was an unofficial penal battalion.
Later in that year the disaster of the Vajont Dam happened and Bonvi and his men were send to dig hundreds of bodies out of the mud.
After this nice experience he returned to his base, near the Yugoslavia border, where exchanging insults with yugoslavian soldiers through radio was the only passtime.
Problem was that the yugoslavian farmers liked to move the boundary stones a bit inside the italian territory, for shits and giggles, and one day Bonvi decided to declare war to Yugoslavia and so he ordered to open fire, luckly starting with warning shots.
During the martial court both the doctors nominated by the court and the battalion medic, which by the way was a gynecologist in an army of only men, found Bonvi affected by a severe nervous breakdown and so he was only dismissed from service.

Thomson/Tim Leary "lecture talk", one of my fave issues (probably 'cause it was my first EVER "alternative comic", some shop at a show were GIVING AWAY a big pile of 'em, took one and mind was blown like: "HOREY SHEIT YOU CAN ACTUALLY MAKE COMICS ABOUT REAL LIFE?!?! what is this madness?!!!?" Jim Woodring "pissing on hands" story disturbed me for years too, for some reason (I was an 11-year old Batfanboy at the time, dudes...).
