I've actually been doing a lot of thinking on that since it was announced Adventure Time is ending in two years. On that show, they pretty much made shit up as they went along. You had storyboarders like Becky who weaved plot lines through the show, but they could never decide whether to commit to the long haul or to just keep doing goofy stuff. That's the cause behind shit like Finn getting his arm back after only a couple episodes. Now that Rebecca has her own show, she can go full keikaku. Everything is planned, all the story beats are laid out. The reason why a show like Venture Brothers takes forever is because it works with a skeleton crew on an extremely low budget. If they were given the same budget but a shorter schedule, every episode would look like the pilot or otherwise they would have to re-design the characters heavily.
